"Up in Norfolk for a few days and looking to enjoy the wonderful area and hospitality. This Restaurant/Pub is definitely WELL worth swerving around. It’s so apparent in its attitude of the customer being a bother and it stands out how they make you feel that way from the minute you enter the pub. Just went there for a drink to start with, then thought we might have a quick bite to eat. I asked the rather ‘ unapproachable Landlord’ if we could eat, it was before 2 00pm do you have any mussels yeah, how are they served, mariniere ? After a grunt, said we serve with white wine and cream, ok fine. A little strange, we were perched on a table in the middle of a very busy bar, my wife and I stood up with a view to going into the restaurant, a lot calmer and better place with a lot of space to have a calm and relaxed atmosphere he looked at me strangely, I said let’s go into the restaurant, is that alright? in a very irritated way said, if you really want to ! Long story short, if you want to be made to feel a nuisance and causing a problem go here. We are away to have a chill time and not interested in having issues over a lunch, just a bit of time to enjoy, a lot of places up in this area seem to believe that the customer is a real pain but somehow has to be contended with. I’m Surrey where we live, the hospitality business has had such a difficult few years, they have a very welcoming and pleased to see you attitude. I just don’t think that this sort of establishment helps the customer or their trade. Hope that helps someone."

A great local pub, not too far from the sea, with a particularly good range of seafood and traditional dishes on offer, would go again

How great to be able to sit outside in the beautiful pub garden in October. We had a lovely lunch pizza that was incredibly well topped and some fish. We had to wait a good while to orer as the place was very busy but was worth the wait.

Grumpy staff, particularly unwelcoming of us and our dog. Manager particularly so. Staff chat amongst each other, ignoring customers; and heard discussing visitors/guests perhaps assuming they could not be heard highly unprofessional regardless.

Ordered a portion of plaice and chips, and also haddock and chips. Minimal fish encased in shed-loads of very greasy batter. Most disappointing (and not cheap either). Why on earth does one have to pay extra for peas if you want them with cod or haddock, but they are included with the plaice? Peas also served cold.

Excellent meal. I have eaten here on other occasions and always had a beautiful meal. Today I tried the Brancaster mussels in white wine and garlic sauce. It was absolutely delicious . My partner had the steak and ale pie, which was full to the brim of steak and cooked to perfection. Beautiful clean establishment. Highly recommended

This pub has recently been upgraded cosmetically but unfortunately the new management are a far cry from the previous team. We popped in for lunch and just had a sandwich, it could have been made by a child, how you can make such a hash of a cheese and pickle sandwich is beyond me and charge £6.75 for it. Basic bread a few chunks of cheese and no pickle, when we pointed out the pickle was missing no apology and a just ‘here’s your pickle’ slammed down a few moments later in a small bowl. We were made to feel like we were being awkward for asking for it. Never again, not a good experience.

Friday night meal. Ordered drinks first and because we wanted to sit outside the bar lady told us they don't do tabs for outside so if we ordered food we would have to go back and re order etc. She was not a happy person at all. Totally in the wrong job. Sat outside on the picnic benches which could do with a clean. When they brought the food out I am quite sure they made a sarcastic comment because we were not near them and she had to walk with our food. We will not be re visiting. Thats a shame because when you find somewhere good you will re-visit . For goodness sake cheer up or get out.

Visiting Holme with Uni friends. We met in 1976, callow youths with the desire to be teachers. We get together every now and again. We chose to visit the White Horse and were treated like old friends. The staff were excellent, friendly, funny and very accommodating. It was so good we came back for a second evening. The food was very good. I had the mussels which reminded me of holidays in France. Best joke of the week was to be served three mussels for dessert as I had not opted for one and the waitress decided (I hope) that I shouldn't miss out. All in all a great time. Thank you for making our reunion special.

We were staying opposite the White Horse in a holiday cottage with our dog. Handy to have a pub on our doorstep that was so dog friendly. Shame, all but one of the members of staff , they aren’t so human friendly!! We felt rushed to order food with whom we believe to be the landlord forever asking us to order food when we just wanted to sit and enjoy a drink before dinner. The food is basic pub grub but ok and a decent menu choice. Can our lovely barman PLEASE instruct his colleagues how to pour Guinness (not poured in ONE pull or in a Moretti glass It’s warm and clean and we did meet some lovely customers and enjoyed some nice chats The bottle of wine my husband bought for THE BEST barman/w...

"We had pre-booked a table for 6 people to have lunch at 2:15pm. We arrived on time and were shown to the table, which had only been set for 4 people which meant we had to pull a further 2 chairs up to the table, and had to request a wine list. We ordered a round of drinks for the table which took c. 15 minutes to arrive. We were waiting a considerable amount of time for a food menu. Eventually we called a waiter over to order some food and were told that the kitchen we no longer serving, despite having booked a table for lunch and not being warned of the kitchen closing time. The staff told us to be quick in ordering however took a further 10 minutes to come and take the order. The food eventually came and the waitress didn 't even put the food at the correct place, she merely put them on the table for us to distribute accordingly. When the bill eventually came, we politely requested the *optional service charge was removed from the bill as we did not feel that we had received adequate service to warrant a tip, to which the manager began shouting that it as shocking that we wanted to rightfully remove the tip. He went on to say that the kitchen staff had stayed over time to prepare our food. My question to the owner is this... if your chefs are unwilling to work over their hours, why are you offering a reservation close to closing time whilst your staff are incapable of processing the orders to the kitchens in the correct timescale and working hours. If we were told that the kitchen were closing soon, we would have cooperated with the staff to help them work to their time scales."
