"Pre booked our table for Saturday 21st October. We had been so looking forward to visiting this pub after it being closed down when we visited the village last year at the same time. The wait was so worth it. The pub itself is so cosy and warm and has been refurbished, but keeping all the traditional features. Still has the nice open fires. We spent a good six and a half hours in total in the pub, eating and drinking. There were 4 of us and we all had a 3 course meal over the period of those hours. Between us we had the starters of pate, salt and pepper chicken and the broccoli and Stilton soup…. All tasty and no complaints. For the mains we had the chilli, gammon steak and steak pudding, again all hot, all tasty and no complaints. Desserts were the apple pie with custard and the lemon roulade with cream….yum. All decent sized and all reasonably priced. Staff were very friendly, helpful and one chap went above and beyond his role and for this we are eternally grateful. I won’t say why on here but he knows what he did THANKYOU THANKYOU THANKYOU. We have booked to return to Longnor Wood holiday park for this time again next year and will not be hesitating in returning back to this pub. You really are a credit to the village."

Lovely pub with nice food and friendly staff. Unfortunately won't use it again as they host foxhunts. Great shame, but my family and friends won't support illegal and cruel sports.

Found this little pub on a trip. Warm and a pleasant welcome. Cracking meals and at an average price for the area. Recommend a visit but if going in the summer or over the weekend, book first.

The salt and pepper chicken starter was incredibly delicious! The bacon burger was so big that we couldn't even finish it. The chef deserves top marks for such tasty food. We highly recommend this restaurant.

What a shame. Cheshire Cheese at Longnor beautifully refurbed. However… no heating on, no log fires lit, with bar staff wearing hooded Parker coat. Serving food with a quilted winter hooded Parker-coat! Making the atmosphere feel even more unwelcoming. What a shame.

The renovations are nice. Service is good and staff friendly but I was let down by the food. Veggie burger clearly came out of a box in the freezer and the garlic prawn starter was just a bowl of 5/6 prawns swimming in oil. Not a patch on the food served at the neighbouring Pack Horse Inn I’m afraid which is also a lot cheaper.

Excellent meal experienced here. Lovely location, lovely ambience, good service and good choice of menu. We went on a Wednesday when there was an offer on of gush chips, scampi or beef pudding for £14 including a free glass of wine or pint of beer/cider etc. Food was very tasty and large portions. In fact we were so impressed we booked to eat there the following night ! Recommended without doubt.

Amazing customer service! Rupert and Ollie went out of their way to help us sort a problem. They were outstanding in their care and dedication to our stay. Room was gorgeous, spacious bathroom with a bath, the most comfy bed in the world, super clean and the quietest night, a great night away. We ate in the pub too, delicious food and really good value. We enjoyed the fire and the cosy atmosphere, was really buzzing with couples, walkers, families and good people have a good time! We will 100% be back. Definitely give Cheshire Cheese a go it is perfect!

Beautiful country food with excellent service and food. Good value for money, would definitely recommend. Sunday roast was superb. Visited as a family of 6 with a new born baby in tow. We all had Sunday roasts, beef (cooked as requested), lamb and turkey, all the trimming and all super. Portions were large, but some of us did find room for dessert, would recommend the honeycomb cheesecake. The service was lovely, staff very friendly and helped find the baby changing facilities. The decor inside was traditional and comfy, great to see a roaring fire on a dank day. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend. Well done.

"Our room faced the front of the hotel, and while the village was quiet with only two pubs and a small corner store, it seemed to be a shortcut for heavy vehicles speeding downhill at night, with headlights constantly illuminating our room. We also found out that the hotel closes in the evening if it's not busy, and the front door may be locked as early as 10 PM, requiring a code for re-entry. The internet service was poor; even standing just outside the front door, I had no reception and couldn't call the emergency numbers posted there. It appears that the quality of the rooms varies significantly, with some having been upgraded while others are less desirable, including our own. When we questioned our bill because we didn't think the room was worth £140, we were told that since we had booked through Charming Escapes, we should take it up with them, as the hotel receives only a fraction of what we paid. This made us feel like second-class guests, especially since it seemed we were stuck in a low-quality room. The standard rate for a double room is £90, and if I were to rate our experience like on the TV show "Four in a Bed," I would say £50 a night would have been generous. Previous reviews also mentioned an issue with the door handle and the ability to lock the room, which had not been fixed. If you’re just looking for a place to dry off your hiking boots, this hotel might suffice, but I wouldn't recommend staying here again. It has a lot of potential, and thankfully, we had a wonderful evening at The Devonshire Arms just across the street—it felt like a whole different experience. It seems the staff at Charles Cotton have simply given up."
