"This is 2 stars only because the ale selection is good and the pints cost £2.50. I rarely pop in here tbh but occasionally I think I 'll just call in to see what beers they have on and get a cheap pint. I always regret it. This is not a pub, it is a large canteen where everyone has gone for cheap food. The absolute worse thing, much worse than the dirty plates and glasses left everywhere, is the bar service and the way that people for some bizarre reason queue at the bar like you would queue at the till in a shop. The bar is massive with plenty of space to stand at but an orderly queue is always formed behing one of the tills and I find it infuriating. This is not how a pub works. The awful queueing system is probably a symptom of the awful standard of bar service and inept bar staff here and is probably the only way the single member of bar staff is capable of know who is next to serve. You are never greeted with a smile and a hello like a normal pub but its just a who 's next or a shouted can I help anyone directed towards a line of people queueing away from the bar. The dirty glasses everywhere in this pub are even on the bar, there is no point in taking your empty glass to the bar on the way out as it will just sit there for ages with no attempt to clear it up, its as if someone on bar service feels it is beneath them to clear away empty glasses. There are much better pubs in Downham, The Crown which is a proper pub and a much nicer drinking experience and The Live and Let Live which is also a proper pub where you can watch the football and like the Crown the bar staff there know proper pub etiquette. Having said that you can get a late drink in this shameful canteen like wetherspoons when the other pubs have called last orders so swings and roundabouts."

"We decided to pop in for tea and cake, as we hadn't visited here since it had been refurbished. Sadly we have to agree others comments regarding customer service, and will not be returning any time soon. Upon arriving there were a few people in front of us waiting to be seated, which was fine. However, when we reached the front of the queue a member of staff completely ignored us, spoke to the group of 6 behind us who were booked for an afternoon tea and proceeded to seat them instead. When we were eventually seated we were shown to the nearest table possible, no offer to sit by the window, despite the restaurant only having about 20 customers, and there we sat and waited. After 10 minutes, ourselves and a lady from the table behind decided to see what cake was available. No labels on the 3 cakes displayed...Victoria Sponge was guessable, but the others not so easy. Then we returned to our tables and waited. A waitress appeared took another tables order and then disappeared. We counted 8 staff in the time we were there, so they weren't exactly short staffed After almost 15 minutes of waiting I asked a member of staff if they were going to take our, or the customers sitting behind us orders. A curt response was given that a waitress was there taking orders..the young lady had obviously arrived just as I was talking. I can not fault the young lady who served us, or the food and drink that we had, but the customer service is appalling. I dread to think what it is like when it is busy. If you are on a time limit with parking I wouldn't rely on quick food service here. One final note, when we went to pay they didn't even know what we had had to eat or drink...really not a good way for a business to run."

"We visited Prezzo this evening for our anniversary. We booked in advance and I made sure to put on the booking that we were celebrating a anniversary, however this did not seem to make any difference at all. It would have been nice if some effort was made in this area, especially when booking the website asked if we were celebrating. It seems point the website asking if the staff do not acknowledge it. We were greeted at the door however it was not a warm welcome. We were offer a small table and I requested a different table as I did not want to be right next to the toilets. The food came quickly. I ordered the pasta arribata and added chicken. The pasta was undercooked. The sauce was so plain and cold it was awful. The sauce was also a weird water consistency so It wasn't sticking to the pasta correctly. It felt like they had just water down tomato sauce. I could not taste any chilli or garlic. My partner had the three meat pizza, he said it was plain and was undercooked also. The staff were unbothered and did not bring any warm energy. I asked to have the aribaita removed from the bill as I did not eat it. They said they would remove it. We had dessert which was nice. I had a 2 free dessert voucher so I used this. The server did remove the desserts however did not remove the aribaita. We Asked about this before we paid, the server lied to our face and said she had removed it. We added it up and she clearly did not remove it. We just wanted to leave so just paid it and left. The restaurant was cold and I could smell cigarettes. This was an awful experience and we will not be returning. We especially did not like being lied to about the pasta dish not being removed. Overall its cheap cold tasteless food and cold lifeless staff"

"We walked in early afternoon and waited around 5 minutes to be seated, which was good considering how busy it was. As they were extremely busy it took along time for our order to be taken, which is understandable. Our order was taken, (we ordered 4 meals) as it was busy we expected it to take a while but certainly not 1 hour. We soon started to realise that our order may not have been processed as several tables that ordered after ours received their food first. We asked the waitress and she said she would check with the kitchen, and said the order has gone through. After waiting around another 20 minutes (at this point around 4 other tables that ordered after ours received their food) we queried to the waitress again who said she couldn 't speed up the kitchen. The manager came over and explained that we made the waitress cry. She also made the point that if we didn 't want to wait the door is over there . She was very confrontational and instead of aplogising she made an excuse that cod takes longer to cook due to the takeaway orders, which was total nonsense when other customers (that ordered after ours) received food that more than likely was cod even so, our food shouldn 't have taken that much longer. She accuses us of being rude, and did not once apologise about the hour wait for our food. Another table that witnessed the incident explained to the manager that we weren 't rude, and were simply asking where our food was. She also was arguing with them, making the point that a 15 year old is crying . I 100% understand management sticking up for their staff, but point blank accusing customers of something without knowong both sides of the story is unacceptable. All the manager had to do is apologise and try and get the food out as quick as possible. Despite the incident, when the food did arrive it was very tasty and worth the wait, it was just unfortunate the manager had to act in this manner."
