"I recently came back from a weekend getaway where I spent two nights at the Crown and Victoria Inn with my wife and friends. I have to say, the hospitality we experienced from the moment we arrived until we departed was exceptional. The owner, Surinder, gave us a warm welcome which made us feel right at home immediately. Our room was stylish and well-decorated, and the bed was so comfortable that I didn't want to leave in the morning. We enjoyed a drink in the large, modern lounge with a cozy log fire before our evening meal, which was very relaxing. Surinder had sent us the menu in advance, so we didn't have to spend much time deciding on our choices. The chef, Surinder's daughter Safia, prepared amazing food, and her son Arun served us at the table. I especially loved the Tamarind chicken I ordered, and my wife thoroughly enjoyed her fish and chips. The continental breakfast was plentiful with fruits, croissants, and cereal. We highly recommend this place for a wonderful stay, and we will definitely be returning in the future."

"Visited today for the first time. Group of walkers and we had arranged a table for lunch. We were made very welcome in the bar and then the restaurant area. Akbar came out to greet us and offered us the menus which offered usual pub fare) but also gave us the option to have 5 Persian dishes, made fresh, to share, on rice. We opted for this and were not disappointed. But before that we had some flatbreads to share with a hummus bowl and an aubergine bowl. Excellent. The 5 mains we shared were from the usual menu and were superb. Large portions which despite being hungry we sadly could not entirely finish. Excellent morish, spiced food which I recommend highly to try. All for less than £20 each. Will definitely be back and although I live circa 40 miles away I will make the effort."

"My husband and I ate there last night having only booked a couple of hours earlier. We were most impressed by the two new dishes that we ordered; one lamb and the other chicken. The service was slick and attentive and we were not kept waiting at all despite the restaurant and the takeaway business both being extremely busy. The naan bread was wonderfully fluffy, and the food was excellent. The Cardamon is not licensed but other diners obviously knew and had taken beers or wine along, a trick the we will remember for another time. Waiters all very smart with impressive hair and great serving skills. We will be going back soon"

"Had the most gorgeous dinner at the newly renovated Green Dragon beautiful interior and atmosphere (the bar is stunning! , fantastic selection of drinks, and the most delicious food at excellent value! Had the amazing Dragon Burger double Powderham Castle Estate beef patties, double bacon, double cheese, the crispiest onion rings and chips, and a salad dressing to die for! Very impressive vegetarian and vegan options as well! Absolutely worth a detour if you're in the area!"

"We sometimes call in here on our way back along the A303. So much nicer than going to the roadside cafes and restaurants! Right in the centre of the village of South Petherton and not very far it 's a brilliant place to go for coffee, lunch or afternoon tea. We stopped here the other day for lunch and had their mushroom quiche and salmon and cheddar quiche with salad and crisps on the side. A real homemade taste with interesting salad not the usual 'out of a bag ' boring offering! We sat outside and ate and a couple came out. He said he had just had the best Plowmans he had ever eaten. I would say the same about the quiche. Well worth a special trip and the village is lovely too."

"Funny little place. £8.40 for fish n chips, nothing special, plastic knife and fork and eat from a box. (sorry Oceans and Landfill) Sorry to slate an independent but because of this you don’t know what to order. Rather a disinterested girl at the counter taking orders, who’s whispered responses couldn’t hope to compete with the speaker blaring pop music 8 feet from my right ear. It was nothing more than OK. Probably an expensive stop for a family. Think I would drive on a bit further next time."

"I don't understand why it's so difficult to find an affordable roast dinner, but this one seemed alright at first. However, when our children wanted an extra slice of chicken and beef, the price increased from the original £10.95 per child's roast to £15.95! Paying that much for just one extra slice of meat seems outrageous. The roast itself was good, but they had run out of gravy so we couldn't have the extra we needed. We also tried a sticky toffee pudding, which was not only reasonably priced but also delicious. When the bill arrived, it said we had ordered 5 pints of beer even though we only had 4. When I questioned it, the lady admitted it was a mistake and took it off the bill. However, she then pointed to the table where there were 3 glasses and accused us of having 5. This was quite rude. The roast was decent, but the staff's attitude was off-putting. It's not worth spending £15.95 per child's roast for just an extra slice of meat. We might have considered returning if the staff had been more pleasant. What a shame."

"This is a shining gem of cuisine nestled in picturesque Ilminster. The chef is very personable and knowledgeable, with a great enthusiasm for sharing the origins and decisions behind the menu and ensuring that you enjoy the dining experience. The dining area is cosy and has a lovely view onto the open area just outside. It's clear that care and attention has gone into every aspect of the experience, and they do read your dietary requirements from the online booking form (sadly a rarity in some places). The cheeseboard is highly recommended don’t miss out!If you're driving, it can be hard to decide where to park there is nearby on street parking, but I recommend the car park on Orchard Vale, with a nice walk up by the church."

"On our journey back to London from Cornwall, we decided to stop at this charming family-owned restaurant. While I grabbed lunch near the Ilminster junction, my wife discovered this hidden gem known as "The Square." Despite some initial skepticism due to its remote location, we were pleasantly surprised by the warm welcome from the friendly staff. Although the selection of hot food was somewhat limited, my wife thoroughly enjoyed her vegan buddha bowl, so much so that we ordered an extra portion. Our children savored the freshly made sausage rolls and baguettes. The homemade brownie and double chocolate muffin were so delicious that even my son, who typically avoids desserts, declared them as some of the best he's ever tasted. Overall, our experience at The Square was delightful and we highly recommend it to anyone traveling through or near Ilminster."

"We went in for a pint on a chilly Monday evening. Warmly welcomed by friendly staff and chatty locals. Dog was welcomed too and was made a fuss of. Comfortable bar area, pub clearly two or three hundred years old. Not too noisy/busy for a cosy chat. Relaxing way to spend an hour or two. We’ll definitely be back when next in the area."

"We just got back home from trying out this village café….. We were given a warm welcome and then our eyes alighted onto the wide array of scrumptious homemade cakes on offer. My wife was only going to have a coffee and a bite of my cake….. but once she’d tasted it, I knew any attempt on my behalf to retrieve my plate would be futile! After ordering a 2nd piece of cake, I thought it would be churlish not to succumb to a bacon bap as a starter. All in all, we’d found a gem hidden in the Somerset countryside."

"Travelling East to West, heading to Bude, we came across The Walnut Tree when looking for a snack and a short break from the long journey. A great find. We opted for the Caribbean tapas and found the whole experience very authentic tremendous flavours, having opted for 2 different chicken options (thighs and wings), accompanied by an excellent homemade coleslaw. The staff were also very friendly and came out to chat to us for a while (a welcomed chat, not a false pretence at hosting). We will make a point of stopping back on our next journey, and will make sure we give ourselves more time to sample more of the menu options available (and there were plenty on offer). I wish the owners all the luck in making this place a great success they certainly have the ingredients to do so!"

"I can 't make up my mind just what it is about this place that sucks the pleasure out of life. The premises are cold. I had a double 'machiato ' that was weak and had a head of froth on it that wouldn 't disgrace a knickerbocker glory and there 's no danger of an over-warm welcome from the serving staff. On the plus side, the cakes look delicious and there 's an excellent choice. Until very recently, there 's been next to no competition locally. (I have been here some 6 or seven times since it opened. Today is the last),"

"I wrote a Google review after our visit last Sunday (21st January) and the owner wrote back to me asking me to message him. I obliged and he explained the whole situation. That he had spent the day in hospital with his father, they had a new start, and staff off sick. He then asked me to come back to the Docks, and to take my review down. Initially I wanted to wait till I had visited to either take my review down, or to change it, however after the second time that he asked me to take the review down, I did. After that he stopped responding to me. To me, this shows that the poor customer service I experienced when walking through the door to the Docks is the expected standard. Attached is my initial review, and screenshots of the conversation the owner and I had. Severely disappointed as I have heard great things about the food (not that I ever got to try any), what a shame the customer service is so bad."

"Never been to Bruton before, glad I visited, might visit again and if I do I will definitely eat here again. This is a cosy little no frills cafe nestled at the rear of a convenience store. Simple menu, full English, sandwiches, soup, jacket potatoes, cakes etc. One suprise on the menu, a Mexican inspired breakfast, had this and loved it and want it again though next time I will ask for a little extra salsa (love spice). Was a midweek when we visited so just the owner on duty but Cat (cafe namesake) was very efficient. Cat is of Mexican dissent (hence the Mexican breakfast) and a joy to talk to. I think she should put a couple more of her Mexican dishes on the menu, if they are as nice as the breakfast they will be winners. So if you find yourself in this pretty medieval town and hungry for some simple fare or a Mexican breakfast this is the place."

"I called in my order at 4:55 PM to be picked up at 6:15 PM. When I arrived a little after 6:15 PM, there was no organized line. Despite the current COVID-19 situation, the takeaway restaurant did not have a system in place to handle a large New Years Eve order book. I waited outside for an hour and a half before finally receiving my order at 7:45 PM, after seeing many later orders being fulfilled before mine. My food was not only extremely late, but it was also lukewarm at best, and some dishes were completely cold. I was close to losing my patience and giving a harsh word to the staff. There were no procedures in place and no social distancing inside the restaurant. This experience was disappointing and I will not be returning, and I urge others to stay away, especially during COVID."

"This pub is 'a work in progress ' the owners told us and it was evident the owners have worked hard both physically and imaginatively during the on-going Covid period to create a pub full of atmosphere. The outside belied the interior to reveal an excellently sized bar area, a restaurant, an unexpected little snug and tasteful decor. There was an excellent menu with well thought-out fresh ingredients resulting in us having tasty and beautifully presented meals. Thank you too to the chef who even took time to let me have my first taste of vegetarian ice cream! Thank you too to the outstanding young friendly and helpful waitress who we found out was balancing two part-time jobs and driving miles daily to study for a qualification. What an example to her contemporaries. We have overnight stays in our motorhome using BritStop so the parking areas at inns and other places are an important factor. At the White Horse we were given a large self contained area to ourselves which was well back from the main road so no traffic noise. The hospitality sector is struggling through staff shortages and loss of money yet the owners Justine and Andy Kemp know how to make people welcome and nothing was too much trouble to them."

"Have drove past this sweet looking little cafe loads of times and always wanted to give it a try but have never got around to it. Thankfully today myself and my wife were in town and called in for breakfast and it was really lovely. Really good choice available at very reasonable prices and also both the ladies were polite, efficient and friendly. I had mushrooms in cream on toast and my wife went for fried eggs on toast all perfectly cooked along with a lovely pot of tea for two. The cafe seems to have a lot of returning regular customers and we will definitely be returning too."

"The lunch menu has standard pub meals: Ham egg, chips: sausage; curry; scampi; pies at £7 £8. But there is also an offer for 2 for £12. We had a chicken curry with rice naan, also crispy chicken breast goujons with chips salad. Both were nicely cooked presented good portions. The owner was very pleasant the bar area, tables etc were sparkling clean. Although the building is obviously old, this part is an extension and a bit dated in style: red carpet, dark tables etc but, as a village pub it may be what the locals prefer. We'll be back as places serving such tasty, good value meals are good to find."
