Warwick, UK, is renowned for its medieval castle and historic architecture. Typical local foods include ale-braised meats and hearty stews, often enjoyed in traditional pubs.

"Looks lovely on the outside but not so lovely on the inside. The table we sat at was a bit dirty to start. The so-called afternoon cream tea wasn’t a pleasant experience. The tea is served in a cup with a teabag and hot water (no teapot) as you’d expect. So I had to place my soggy teabag on my saucer for the duration. The sandwiches were the nicest part, however they arrive on a wooden cake stand which looked very unhygienic with crisps and lack lustre salad placed directly onto this unhygienic-looking wooden cake stand. The cake stand was wobbly with a screw sticking out of the top, where the handle was missing. We got a half a scone per person with the clotted cream already spread thinly on the scone, they were the driest scones I’ve ever tasted (awful) the cakes were also dry, I’d say at least 3-4 days old, definitely not fresh. Overall the worst afternoon cream tea I’ve ever had, and so poorly presented. I can honestly say I never write reviews but I felt compelled to write one on this occasion."

"We were disappointed with our experience at what used to be the best pub in the area. Upon arrival, the owner informed us that there was no availability for food, despite us having booked a table. We were told to order immediately. A woman who appeared to be the maitre d' made us feel uncomfortable with her excessive friendliness and hovering. Two of us ordered roast beef, which was tough and inedible. When we mentioned this to the woman, she took our plates and asked if everything was okay. As we left, she hinted at a tip, leaving us feeling uncomfortable. The atmosphere in the pub was awkward, with the owner appearing unwelcoming. We have been patrons of this establishment since the 1970s and it is a shame to see it decline in quality."

"Me and a friend called in on Saturday afternoon myself never visiting a dessert shop. Huge menu of waffles, crêpes, pancakes stacks, ice creams and Sundaes. Staff were very polite and attentive and after our treat found out they have only just taken over in the last 3 weeks. Because of my excitement when our order came out the lady asked if she could take a photo for social media, a bit embarrassed we agreed and whilst looking for that photo I’ve came across these poor reviews. The place is very welcoming the staff are very friendly, cleaning was being done the whole time I was there the wiping down of menus and worktops, and the food is gorgeous as for pricing I haven’t been anywhere else so I wouldn’t know if it’s expensive or not but I do know it was very nice.A small business in Kenilworth town with rent and rates I can imagine cost a lot of money if you want cheap get yourself a frozen one from Tesco’s and take it home! I certainly will be visiting again and taking my grandchildren. I did think the desserts would be small hence why we bought one each and one to share, but my goodness as you can see from my photos they were not, however we did manage to finish them mall!!!"

"Despite it being early evening on a Monday, this restaurant was full, which is a very good sign. It is a small pub with a good atmosphere and offers a menu that is very typical of pub food. We originally wanted fish and chips, but unfortunately they were sold out (the table next to us had it and it looked delicious). However, we were satisfied with our choices of Rib Eye Steak and the Fisherman's basket. The steak was cooked perfectly and was a generous size, served with delicious chips and peppercorn sauce. The Fisherman's basket included plaice goujons, scampi, and whitebait, and was also very tasty and a good value. The service was a bit slow, but they were busy so it was understandable. We definitely plan on coming back."

"the square is spacious, many tables for selection as well as a beer garden from the back with a beautiful small view. the service was great, not on my drink I ordered, but that was just on my taste. the prices were extremely competitive, great value for money."

"First time here to meet up with brother and sister in law for lunch 21.12.23 Place was busy, I put this down to festive season. First impressions were favourable. Warm greeting and as much time as we needed to decide on our order. Food arrived. Oh dear frozen oily deep fried calamari, not brilliant but edible, main course arrived , again not brilliant but edible. When the side order of onion rings eventually arrived half way through main course, oily and pretty gross to be honest. I wasn't in the mood to raise any issues because I suspect this is as good as it gets here. Won't be running back anytime soon personally but my brother and sister in law live locally and think it's OK. In summary I would urge you to try this venue for yourself and not make your choice based on my comments. Who knows, maybe we just caught them on an off day! "This is one of our favourite pubs in the area! It’s dog friendly, so we can take our daft pup in while we grab some beers and food. They always give the dogs water and treats, which our dog loves. The staff are super sweet...with our dog and give him a good fuss when he comes in. They have dog of the week pictures and it’s clear dog lovers have been coming in for the warm welcome. They have a wide range of beer, ales and cider. Some of the drinks can be a bit pricey but that’s leamington all over. They have got some great food and loads of vegetarian and vegan options. I especially like the vegan hot dog or the cauliflower wings. They have events on like the quiz but we have not been to that yet. Seriously give this pub a check out when you can as it’s great. They have really turned it around and made it feel nice to go in there. They have had their work cut out for them as the previous owners made it very cliquey in there and this kept people away when they took over. Once you get in there you will see how much it has changed for the better."

"I've been here a couple times... Great out-of-the-way pub. Nice place to gather friends and family. Love the location... Right on the canal with anchored canal boats near by. Typical English fare (Fish Chips, Curry, Sausage Rolls)... They are known for their pies (Steak Ale, Chicken Leek Bacon, etc). They have a good brunch menu served daily, also an excellent Sunday Roast. Full bar, great beer selection. This is always a favorite when I visit the area."

"Unremarkable For a Friday lunchtime, it was suprising to be the only guests in the restaurant. A couple came in 10 mins later. The waitress was not the friendliest and took our orders. We took advantage of the 3 course special for £23.95 each. When my mains came, I asked for some dried chilli which was promptly brought to the table and then I asked for salt pepper and was barked at Is that everything . The starter, Calamari, was dry and stringy. The mains took a long time to come out but by now another table had arrived so maybe the chef was rushed off his feet !!! The original couple had eaten their meal and left by the time we had started our main course. We had 2 pizzas and a fish dish and they were nice but nothing special. The pudding menu on the set menu was either cheesecake or loaded with fudge or caramel, none of which appealed to me. I opted for ice cream which was very good. I recommend the blackcurrant mascarpone. In total, we were in the empty restaurant for 2 hours in order to finish a 3 course meal. I presented my Tesco voucher, only to be told a few minutes later, that I could not use it on the set menu. My fault as I should have checked the small print. I ended up forking out an extra £40 as the whole meal had to be itemised through the till. We agreed that we probably wouldn 't be returning."

"A truly painful experience. Waited over an hour for food with people who came in after us being served before us as our waitress obviously forgot to put the order through. Got sat next to the door on a chilly day whilst large groups of teenagers were in and out constantly vaping/smoking leaving the door open. Had to get up to close it all the time; luckily a family was sat next to us who tagged in with the door closing. It seemed tables just drinking were prioritised over people ordering food. And when we finally got our food I found a bit of metal Brillo pad/scourer in the chips. A restaurant run by children for children to get drunk on cheap cocktails, definitely not somewhere to go for dinner."

"A few months ago, my family of four visited the PE restaurant in Birmingham where they forgot my wife's pizza, causing her to eat alone after the rest of us. We hoped this wouldn't happen again, but unfortunately it did. Last night, we decided to try our local PE in Warwick. We arrived just before 7.00pm and waited behind another couple to be seated. Despite staff passing by, no one acknowledged us for at least 5 minutes. Just as we were about to leave, the couple in front of us was seated and we were shortly after. We placed a simple order for 1 starter to share, 2 pizzas, and 2 glasses of wine. The wine arrived in dirty glasses, for which we said nothing and cleaned them ourselves. The wine was slightly off and not worth the price. Our starter was fine, but then the waiter brought out a pizza and two small plates, assuming we were sharing. When we told him we weren't, he seemed confused. He went back and forth with another waiter, who also seemed clueless. I eventually had to shout to get their attention and correct the order. However, I realized that by the time they made my pizza, my wife would be done eating, so I cancelled the order. Before leaving, I spoke with the manager about the poor service. He apologized and acknowledged the issue had already been brought to his attention. I asked him how he would feel if his evening with his wife was ruined, to which he agreed he would not pay the bill. We followed suit. Dining out is expensive these days, but we like to support local restaurants after COVID. We do not hesitate to voice our complaints when service or food quality is subpar, although we have empathy for restaurant staff. However, after a second missed order at PE, we were fed up. They used to be good, but not anymore. Proceed with caution and prepare to pay a hefty bill if you choose to dine there."

"My group of 9 friends met up at the Durham Ox for a reunion and we were all extremely pleased with the food, atmosphere, and service. We felt well taken care of and appreciated how efficient the service was. We were so satisfied that we didn't need to eat much the next day. I highly recommend this restaurant for its lovely setting. Thank you to the staff for a great experience. Price per person: £50-60. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5."

"we arrived 5 minutes before our booked time and were told that our table was not completely finished. that was no problem at all, so we sat at the bar and had a drink. 10 minutes went by and we saw the 2 people on the table we later sat on holiday. 10 minutes left without someone coming to us, so we asked about our table. it was clear that we were forgotten and finally showed on our table. that was not waiting with cleaning the table etc. when others came and went while we were waiting. no good start! We knew what we ordered, so order immediately. 1 bratbeef and a nice wellington. eating came incredibly fast, even before our drinks (within 5 minutes.) the sweet wellington was tasteful, but was drained by the stone kartoffels and soggy yorkshire pudding. the bark was quite fat and with only 2 rather thin slices. we mentioned the bratkartoffeln and yorkshire pudding on the waitress, who then brought a little more. the bratkartoffeln were exactly the same. it was clear they've been standing for a long time, like the Yorkshire puddings. the waitress asked if we like one dessert, we rejected and asked only for the bill that was also given to us in quite abrupt wise. when paying premium prices, they expect a good service and high quality food. this was unfortunately missing from both accounts. I hope it was just one way out, as I know that other people here have made good experiences. I'm afraid we won't hurry to come back."

"Meeting, in Leamington, an old friend for a lunch catch up. Not being familiar with the town centre used google to look at availability. This restaurant promises a different vibe and with an interesting menu we decided to give it a go. First impressions where promising and we were greeted and shown a table. There is a small outside space but we stayed in side. We had jambalaya and quesadillas. Not experts but we all thought they were both excellent. To drink we had a draft lager and coffee. Overall a fairly simple restaurant offering good cheerful service. If you like this style of food then recommend."

"charming place for a pint on the afternoon. Amazingly large exterior sitting area and beautiful balcony on the top floor. However, if they plan a meal, they will be very disappointed. prices for the small portions of food and for the quality of food inappropriately high. we had to start the portobello mushrooms and it came with two small squares of toast. not enough. when we ordered more broth, they simply brought bread with seeds. about the main courses consist of the chargrilled lamb balsamic koftas in only 4 small spits. they must order at least two pages to feel satisfied. the maischekartoffel came too dry and my main the lobster devon crab fishcakes were...read more"

"As a fairly local this has always been a place you know you are going to get great food this visit did not disappoint, the food was beautiful. The risotto I had was excellent BUT the service meant that where we perhaps would have stayed for dessert we did not feel welcome. We had booked a table but when we walked in we weren't asked our name though I said, just told sit anywhere. We found a table got settled then realised it had reserved on it,we were then told you can't sit there, fair enough we moved even though the table remained empty the whole time.We ordered our drinks,my daughter ordered a chocolate milkshake which looked amazing, she asked if she could had a spoon, never arrived or acknowledged. We were never asked if our meal was ok.My daughter's cutlery came unwrapped,a tea light was banged down on our table at one point.I asked for the bill as we felt unwelcome after our meal had finished. To be told I had to push yes or no if I wanted to leave a tip.I was stared at the whole time, very uncomfortable.I could count on one hand the words we were spoken to Food wonderful, service abysmal,we all have bad days where we perhaps don't feel happy chatty but in a service industry there is a bare minimum politeness you need. We unfortunately will not visit again as although the food is outstanding we really don't want to pay to be made to feel an intrustion"

"We love this place, it’s been several months since we’ve been in Leamington but found ourselves there on Saturday. Helpful staff were able to accommodate us at short notice and we were given such a friendly welcome back. Lamb chops are still so tasty and the moussaka was delicious. No time for deserts …. This time!!! We will be back soon, won’t be so long hopefully. Thanks for a lovely dinner"

"A friend and I went to try the tasting menu and were pleasantly surprised. We are not big fans of fish, but we enjoyed every course without any trouble. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. The waitstaff provided descriptions of each dish and were attentive without being overbearing. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and would happily return."
"I visited most recently on 11/23, which happened to be pie night. My drink (a decent pint of bitter) was included in the price. The steak and ale pie I ordered was quite good, although it was not specified on the menu that it also contained mushrooms. Luckily, I enjoy mushrooms, but what about those who do not? The service was excellent. I returned on 11/22 and found that the menu still offered a good variety of options, including vegetarian dishes, with generous portions and friendly, helpful staff. It had been many years since my last visit, but I was pleased to find that the food and service were still good. I will definitely be returning."
