"I work really close to Jamies and have come in for lunch a few times. Last night a friend and I went in for drinks after work, the manager served us initially and we ordered gin and tonics he said that doubles were...only but we confirmed we wanted singles. All fine. We took it in turns to get drinks and after the first drink would only get tonic to share. On my round at the bar I was served by one of the barmen and I asked for silent pools and tonic I had my card out ready to pay and he mumbled the price and very quickly tapped the machine next to my card, before I could properly look at the price and I was concerned that he had over charged me, so I asked for a receipt. The barman instantly became defensive and annoyed about the fact I'd asked for a receipt and on observing the receipt he had charged me for doubles I told him that I had not asked for doubles he shrugged his shoulders and smirked, I said again that I never asked for doubles, he said you are having Silent Pool gin they are always doubles and I told him that was absolute rubbish because my friend and I had been drinking singles of Silent Pool all night. The barman got very defensive and poured the drinks away, poured new drinks and said I would have to speak to a manager, so I waited. He then served someone else. A couple of minutes later I asked have you called the manager and the barman said no I said that I was waiting there until I saw a manager the barman then got the card machine out tapped in and told me to tap or insert my card I asked how I know that is a refund and that I'm not being charged a further he then cancelled the transaction and re-entered and this time it said refund!! I tapped my card to retrieve the refund and the card machine then required a managers pin to authorise it the manager then happened to pass by I told him that I had been charged for doubles that I didn't ask for and was waiting for my refund. The manager was very efficient and asked me exactly what it was I ordered and instantly refunded me the correct amount Absolutely awful barman hoping to overcharge drunk people hoping they wont notice and then when caught tries to refund you less than what you are owed. Even though the manager was kind and helpful, I dread to think how many other people this happens to and perhaps don't notice very dishonest way to behave. I will never go back to Jamies for lunch or a drink and will advise my friends and colleagues to go elsewhere."

"SO disappointing! When we arrived and said we had a table booked, the table was just pointed out to us. We sat down, but no one brought menus or took a drinks order. After at least 20 minutes one of our party queued at the bar, and when it was his turn to be served was told to sit down and someone would come over. Another 15 minutes went past, then my husband stopped a waitress and asked if we could order drinks. He was told very brusquely that someone would come soon. At this point we would have had our drinks if he'd been allowed to order at the bar, but no, another 15 minute wait. Another waitress spotted that we didn't have menus, so finally brought us some. We had booked a table for 6pm as we had young children with us, but it took so long to order food and drinks, we were there much later than planned. I chose sea bream and saute potatoes, but received sea bream and boiled new potatoes, and when I questioned it, someone eventually came back and said they were saute potatoes (like none I've ever seen or would want I left them). I know it was the time of year, but the place was taken over by huge Christmas parties, which was never mentioned when we booked. Our table was in the bar, so we were surrounded by people standing and drinking, and the noise level was unbearable. When I booked, I said it was for a special birthday, and my son even brought a table decoration with us, so it was obvious what we were celebrating, but no one said a thing about it or tried to make our experience special. We felt like an inconvenience, as obviously they only cared about the Christmas parties. Sadly, this is not my first visit to the Falcon Hotel, but it will be my last, especially as having eaten at another restaurant in Bude the night before where the food was superb and we were treated very well. I know where I will eat in the future."

"among a large number of fried chicken restaurants, almost food joints and numerous bangladeshi restaurants is a rustic Italian restaurant with an excellent environment. on Wednesday afternoon for lunch I was amazed to see a style similar to that of a first class restaurant. the restaurant was relatiw full for a Wednesday afternoon in mile ende. the menu consisted of a few dressed in different categories that you would see in any Italian restaurants, but with a higher complication. the waiter came to explain the daily specialties that burrata with black truffles shave up and spaghetti with truffle both for reasonable prices. my friend ordered a margherita pizza that arrived with basilikum and parmesan cheese on the side. the pizza was thin crispy crust with a delicious tomato sauce, a simple dish, but prepared for a very high standard. I ordered the rabbit ragout, which was also very tasty and the pasta came al dente, I also ordered burrata with black truffles, both were very tasty. there was a formal environment with a dedicated wine menu. the waiter explained to me that the restaurant was only open two months. this restaurant can be seen as a hidden gem in mile ende and is definitely recommended to appreciate the good hearty Italian cuisine. prices can be slightly high compared to the surrounding restaurants, but for the quality of food and the ingredients it is definitiv a trip and worth the money."

Banyan On The Thames

"Banyan on the Thames is a nomenclatural inexactitude because the banyan tree is an inhabitant of the Indian subcontinent, rather than being passed off as a floating ficus on the Thames. Belonging as it does to the fig family, the original banyan drops spectacular aerial roots from its branches to the ground beneath its immense verdant canopy, producing a most unique treat for the eyes. The name of this tree has been appropriated by the Raphael on the Left Bank hotel in London for its restaurant. Maybe it aptly symbolises the roots of the restaurant being in the subcontinent. What strikes one about the place on first sight is someone's apparent obsession with the Medusa, signifying the Versace brand, which appears on every table top and virtually all over. The second striking feature is the artificial grass laid out both indoors and outside in the so called “garden” where there is a profusion of fake flowers, creepers and shrubs. It looks tacky and creepy and screams fake. The atmosphere in the so called garden, was not helped by the music played at decibels that are designed to hurt the ear drums. Food was fair to middling in quality, taste and presentation. The standard of service was reasonable. On the other hand, the location is magical. You can spend quite a while looking out through the large glass windows as the world goes by. The Thames flows quietly, more water under Battersea bridge, while you are people watching. And if you are feeling energetic, one has the opportunity of course to refresh oneself by striding along the Thames in the company of others who may be ambling, jogging and strolling. In conclusion, it’s really nothing to write home about"
