"Visited this lovely old pub on a Saturday lunchtime with family and we all really enjoyed our meal. The staff are so friendly and helpful and the food (especially their daily special pies!)was great. Reasonable selection of real ales and tap beers/lagers but unfortunately a very limited choice (ie just 1) of zero alcohol beers which one of our party wanted. It’s also a fantastic location for a walk over Walton Heath and the beautiful Colley Hill afterwards to burn off those lunch calories!! Definitely worth a visit!"

"We were visiting relatives in the area and needed a nice pub for lunch where we could bring both of our dogs. I googled and found this. I called at 12pm when they opened and the lady that answered was so friendly and helpful. We went in at 2pm and she sat us at a great table in the corner which gave the dogs space to lay down comfortably and not be in the way. Such a dog friendly pub with the boys getting several treats each and a dog bowl, not to mention lots of cuddles!!!! The food came and we all had different things but we ate everything. The food was absolutely delicious and great value. My partner is Irish and he confirmed that this was the best Guinness he had had in 9 years of visiting this area!!!!! Cannot find fault with anything. The staff, the food, the atmosphere, the drinks and unbelievably dog friendly. I'm sorry I didn't get the lady's name who served us but it was the tall blonde lady, who was fantastic. The roaring fire was so inviting, we had to drag ourselves away. We will most definitely be back ."

"We had a fantastic experience at the restaurant! We had pre-ordered the Christmas Party Menu for £15.99, which included three courses, and it was great value for money. The prawns and mushrooms for starters were perfectly crispy, the salmon was cooked to perfection, and everything was served piping hot. The salted caramel snowballs were a particular highlight and absolutely delicious. The service was friendly, and Kelly did an amazing job of ensuring everything was served on time, despite being short-staffed. The background singer, who mainly performed ABBA songs, was enjoyable and not overly loud. The Stag restaurant is doing a fantastic job of attracting lunchtime customers, and we will definitely be returning."

"The food here is always good and the staff and environment are always welcoming but today I opted for the pie of the day: cheese and leek and it was the best shortcrust pastry I have ever eaten! I was worried it'd be too stodgy when I realised it was an individual pot pie (meaning extra pastry but it was so light, so tasty and the filling was great too : Have to say that the decaf tea here(Taylors of Harrogate is really bland but this is by no means unusual! I'd have given a 5* if they'd had Yorkshire decaf or at a push:Twinings"

"One evening, my wife, adult daughter, and I decided to visit this restaurant in Porthleven after reading previous reviews. We arrived around 6pm and were surprised to see how busy the pub was for a midweek night in November. It appeared to be a popular spot for locals, with a nice atmosphere and friendly staff. Although there were initially no available tables, we managed to secure one after about 15 minutes, giving us time to look over the menu. I ordered the short rib beef pie with mash, mushrooms, and carrot, my wife chose the Megrim Sole with sauce and greens, and our daughter opted for the pepper sausages on a bed of mash and lentils. While all the meals were tasty, we were somewhat disappointed. My pie was small and shallow, more like a meat patty than a pie, and the portions were not very generous. Additionally, my wife's Megrim was delicious, but our daughter's sausages were the only hot items on the plate. Despite these shortcomings, we enjoyed the evening, the pub atmosphere, and the overall flavor of the food. However, we were disappointed by the portion sizes and the temperature of some of the dishes.Overall, while we may not return due to these issues, we did appreciate the experience and the taste of the food."

"We had booked a large party and had to pre order our food for the kitchen. We was part of an event and only had a certain amount of time before we had to be back. A few days before we rang and spoke to the supervisor K y who confirmed that we could move our reservation from 3:30 to 3pm. Once seated we waited an hour for food to arrive. After several conversations with staff that we needed to be back for 4:30 and all food was preordered we kept getting similar responses of plating up now, I’ll go check with the kitchen. Once the food began to arrive at 4:10pm it looked rushed and several dishes were burnt and one child’s meal had not been made. My Yorkshire pudding tasted like just batter, roast potato had no potato in it. We left very upset and disappointed wouldn’t recommend with group bookings."

"We have never had such an experience before. We are traveling to Inverness from California for the first time. The restaurant had some good reviews so we decided to have dinner before getting to our Airbnb. The host told us the “conditions” to get seated. Said that people come and order one main course and many rotis and just eat that. Told us we would have to order one main course for each person in our party. And we were told this in a very rude way. I’m not sure what about me made him think I was a customer he did not want. I am going to assume they do not want Indian customers. Why this is the case at an “Indian” restaurant, I have no idea. When we confronted them about this, they blamed the owner. Seemed like a copout. We have NEVER been treated like this. The restaurant staff seemed to have made assumptions based on our race. It was a heartbreaking start to our highland holiday."

"Booked a table for us both for 8 o'clock was no problem getting it booked . Friendly staff nice and cool atmosphere clean tables ordered Beef stroganoff and chicken with ginger skilled. One with chips and one with Garlic bread.so we could share . .took a while to come. But had no problem waiting as it was being cooked fresh and hot...food was lovely very tasty and just enough to make you full but not busting will be back again as we live in Newton Abbot ."

"Staff was unwelcoming and cold. Food was good and so if the location but how can you enjoy when the lady who serves makes you feel like she doesn't even want you there. I see that a lot of people have shared this feedback about the staff but clearly it's hasn't been heard or worked on. I would love to go back but only after the staff smile (even if it's fake! to welcome new customers. I remember waiting for my turn to order a drink but the old lady at the bar ignored me and asked the regular customer to order. That's rude."

"Amazing place to eat, drink, relax and keep going again and again. We are a family of 5 (3 kids under 10) living local and regularly walk for breakfast, lunch, dinner or just a drink or ice cream. The food is great, comes quick and has great variety and all for a good price. The most impressive thing though is the staff and how friendly they all are, especially Eddy the owner. It's a real positive place and you feel really welcome. Nice touches all over the place and a super friendly welcome. Keep up the good work. Just had a cold coffee and kids ice cream after a bike ride!"

"We arrived a bit late but phoned ahead. We were told they stopped serving food at 8.30 and they asked the chef if he could squeeze us in- we were told he could but we had to choose our food quickly, what a wonderful way to be welcomed! When we ordered we were told they only had limited amounts of food- ‘you have ordered the falafel- you’re supposed to get 8 but we only have 5 left’ (and then 4 arrived . I ordered the vegan curry (as someone who has not eaten meat in 30 years . What was served was a chicken curry. I took one bite and spat it out- I can tell the difference between a dead bird’s rotting carcass and actual food a mile off. Feeling sick, I went to the toilet, and whilst I was there the server tried to convince my boyfriend I had ordered the chicken curry (yes, of course I had! . When I came back to the table she tried the same number on me. Vegans don’t order chicken curries. FFS. The worst service, the worse food, just the worst."
