"We had to cancel our major holiday so decided to stay in a couple of lovely hotels in the UK and booked this hotel but have been so disappointed, especially the food on offer. One our first night, we went in full of anticipation and very hungry after a six hour drive from the Wirral. The whole meal was the worst one we have ever eaten. The restaurant wasn’t particularly busy but we had to wait a long while for the food to arrive. My asparagus and wild garlic soup was ghastly. It was vibrant green but was overpowered by the garlic and was watery , with no substance, so I sent it right back. I had requested the skate wing in advance as I overheard someone saying there was only one portion left. I wish I hadn’t bothered. It came with a huge pile on cold seaweed , :3 barely cooked halves of potatoes, no leeks and the few buttered shrimps were not buttered. This fish was grey and overcooked and after 2 mouthfuls, I sent it back. My husband’s ‘ torched’ mackerel was cold, overcooked and tasteless and the accompanying vegetables had no dressing at all. He ordered the pork which was a 4 cm round and had to saw through it as it was so tough. Also there were only a few drops of ‘jus’. The restaurant manager was very apologetic and said she would report it back. I went to bed hungry and unhappy. , which was a shame on our anniversary. The breakfast was ok but the sausages were well overcooked and tough and we specified soft fried eggs but they were solid. The adorable Kas apologised and promised soft ones next time. We played safe last night and ordered Theo chicken pies in advance but when they came , one was beef and the poor Manager couldn’t believe it but we ate them as they take 30 minutes to cook. They were very tasty but the gravy was a beef one.!! Surely it’s easy to prepare some chicken gravy. The desserts were nice. We spoke to several other guests who all said they were disappointed in the food. I did speak to James, who’ll is the Manager who told me he had read the report from the dining room. On leaving I was told there was a £5 supplement and £31 for the wine. I would definitely not eat there again. The nicest thing about the restaurant was Kas’s lovely smile and excellent service."

"only returned from a beautiful week in y a and it was perfect in every sight! we were in a superior room that had a lot of space for the 2 of us. the bathroom was huge to london standards) and the floor heating was fantastic, after the move to return london for the day. breakfast every morning was wonderful, like the flat white ones! we only upgraded one tomorrow, as the continental offer was so impressive! the most beautiful fruit salads, the yogurt with granola and fruit-comonate....almost the trip alone worth it! y a was the perfect basis for tour london, we found ourselves most often rides, as the look of the second level was fantastic! buses to take us where we wanted to go were no longer that 2 blocks away. after a busy day in the inner city of london it was so pleasant to be back in relatiw quiet location of camden town in just 20-30 minutes. the return to the same few faces at the reception and our little boutique hotel made the london experience so intimate. with so many places to eat we have only eaten one night in y a. we chose pizza from the wood burning stove. I was a bit embarrassing to be that the guest is asked to sit in the less formal pizza salon instead of the formal dining room and the personal was happy to accommodate! the pizza was fantastic as you are expected! and huge! we ordered 2 but you would have been perfect for the exchange. many thanks to the entire team at y a! they have made our trip perfect! "Why on earth are there so much tartan? that is because it is a shattic-hearted restaurant. I didn't know that Scottish food could be used as thema – I mean, there are heggis, and that's good, that's right. It doesn't seem like, apart from all tartan, initial impressions are not good. they have lost our reservation and do not believe me when I say that I have one – necessary to withdraw the email confirmation. not consecrated, they still say that they are fully booked and begin to show us elsewhere, but this is the deepest darkest Victoria/Westminster, a lot of restaurants there is not and I am certainly not hunting on the streets. the young are kicking with a mini-haggis for starters, complete with maische and neeps, which even has the possibility of a noggin whisky as a chaser that it seems is an absolute no-brain of an option. I choose for the potty smoked makrele with meerrettich and toast. that is not almost as sharp and fiery as I want, it is tasty, but much too mellow to be fair to the strong taste of makrele and meerrettich in a couple. we have all ordered exactly the same for a head, saddle back pork with curly and black pudding hash. the meat is delicate to taste, but much too hard to cut through what makes it a bit too hard to get through. the hash ball are a little salty for my taste personally, but the personal keeps us plentiful with water, which they realize that we are like those in dessert. in the time that we run over half the distance through our net, the lively jazz band enters and while we cannot see them from our position in the appendix, they are an atmospheric supplement to the place. To enjoy the music, we decide to finish a cheeseboard and the youngs mull over the other possibility to finish the meal; havana zigarren. we have a huge proportion of different types of cheese, so we can all share on a cheese cracker and nibble, the beat of whiskys in the air and the jazz band music that filters us are a great way to finish at night. as far as the package is concerned, I remain undefeated. our waitress was beautiful, attentive sweet, but the front of the house staff was a bit extra spicy, that was delicious, but needed the little extra something to push it in divine."

"As someone who tends to be a bit picky, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food. The à la carte menu features some imaginative dishes, such as a delicious oxtail sausage roll and a mead-glazed pheasant leg, along with a selection of Christmas menu offerings from 2016. What was meant to be a three-course meal turned into a delightful series of indulgences, thanks in part to my stretchy pants! One standout dish was the hot-smoked, whisky-cured Loch Duart salmon served on Guinness sourdough with horseradish mousse and truffle snow. What can I say? This was exquisite salmon, with each element—from the sourdough to the sweet horseradish—blending beautifully. I kicked off my meal with roasted and pickled heritage beetroot, goat cheese, and preserved apple topped with cashews (£8.50). This was a stunning plate, showcasing sharp apple, wonderfully sweet beetroot, and the tangy goat cheese—an absolute delight. Rolled in apple jelly, it was amusing and unexpected. Next was a festive dish from their Christmas menu—a rich wild boar and pistachio terrine with damson chutney and purple potato purée. Beautifully presented and reasonably priced at £50 for three courses, there wasn't a boring Christmas pudding or mint cake in sight. The chef’s duck pâté and chicken liver foie gras was sublime, served with a tart cherry reduction and candied hazelnuts. However, I had jumped the gun by ordering my main course too early. The wild mushroom and salted venison Wellington was accompanied by tender stem broccoli and white truffle celeriac purée topped with roasted almonds (£24). If I had to nitpick, I would have liked it a tad flakier, but the venison was perfectly cooked. Next, I enjoyed a dish of fried market fish served with braised leeks, kale, buttered new potatoes, and Brixham crab broth. This Christmas special was packed with flavor that harmonized beautifully. As for dessert, I was ready for something special. What arrived was nothing short of delightful: a plate of amaretto panna cotta with caramelized banana, candied cashews, and a decadent seven-layer dark chocolate and roasted pecan pie infused with vanilla and nutmeg. To top it all off, the salted caramel mousse with vanilla cream, shortbread, and a chocolate ganache-filled caramel cylinder was a clever nod to my sweeter side. I’m a sucker for salted caramel ice cream, and it was heavenly paired with the chocolate brew. After everything, the chef offered me an ice cream sandwich. I had to put my foot down—my stretchy pants were at their limit, and I needed to call it a night. If you live near this restaurant, I am genuinely envious. If not, make sure to visit before it becomes so popular that securing a table becomes impossible!"

"Unfortunately unlike many other’s who have kindly posted reviews on here, our experience of Afternoon Tea at The Chesterfield was rather disappointing. The staff were very attentive and courteous and I really appreciated how welcome they made us feel. Unfortunately for some reason at our seating on a Friday at 4:30pm there seemed to be an issue with a shortage of cakes/pastries. When the afternoon tea came out, understandably there is not enough room on the tea stand to put out 3 of each type of cake, so I just enquired whether one of each type of cake for the three of us would be bough out later and the waitress said we could have more sandwiches and scones if we wished. I said thank you, we have one of each of those, it’s the cakes I would like more of please. I got the same reply offering more sandwiches and cakes. Just to clarify things, I said was I expected to cut each cake into 3 small pieces then ? She looked embarrassed and said I could ask for more of the one’s we enjoyed the most. I left it for a while and once we had had our thirds of cake each, when the waitress came back and asked which we enjoyed the most, I said the small pink cheesecake, could we have 3 of those please, again I was meet with the offer of more sandwiches and scones. I did not want to ruin my eldest daughter’s birthday treat anymore by making a fuss, so I didn’t pursue it any further but did contact the Manager a few days later regarding our disappointing experience. He suggested it was all a “miscommunication issue” on my behalf, that afternoon tea was an unlimited eating experience, and they only bring out a certain amount of cakes, so not to create food waste. This was clearly not the case, as everyone else at the sitting took home their uneaten items in food boxes provided by the hotel, which is usually the option when you go for afternoon tea and the kind waitress gave us 6 extra scones to take away with us, also extra sweets, trying to restore some joy to a very underwhelming and frustrating experience."
