"Paid 24 pounds for a beef roast Which to be fair was about right For a roast But found one carrot and no green veg was poor admittedly, there were root vegetables. But needed to top up with peas and Broccoli just to top the plate up which was a fiver extra So 29 pounds I found to be Not value for money, told the member of staff when paying. Only to be told yes, we are aware of this, but the owner and Chef Not interested."

"my wife and I spend about 3 months in northumberland, visit a series of beauty spots, historical sites and equally important to look for great restaurants. our internet research and talks with locals led us to the old boat house in...Amble to lunch. the location of the restaurant (right on the coast) and near a series of interesting huts that houses a lot of objects was immediately attractive. this was given by entering into the restaurant and a very warm welcome by the staff and a table directly on the harbour. all very positiw, but this was just the prelude for some amazing food. we chose the common seafood plate – a huge wooden tablet with a whole lobster, perfectly cooked sea crumbs, lindisfarne oysters, roll mop herings, smoked makrele, hot cold smoked salmon, shetland mussels and delicious broken fish goujons roy pawns with delicious freshly baked freshly baked we would have stopped (should) after this amazing display of delicious food, but we ended the order of desserts – they were also delicious and glad that we did not leave. we can recommend a visit to the old boat house for a culinary extravaganza!"

"We had a family lunch at the Rick Stein 's restaurant in Winchester on the 2nd June, 2024, and went for 3 set menus. Fish cakes from the starter (cod) and main course (salmon) were both very dry, gaspacho was ok but the taste was far from what should cost over 9GBP. But the 'cherry on top was the Spelt risotto that was really bad: the vegetables were over-cooked and soggy, parmesan was grated before the plate was served and did not look as freshly grated. It may sound alright for some guests but this is not your local pub! Green beans do not need to be boiled until soggy! This is the place that charges 50GBP for a plate of fish! I did not raise concern on the day as I was there with two kids who are getting excited about fine dining and I did not want to ruin their experience. I do not think the restaurant is run by Rick Stein but it is rather a franchise where chefs who cannot cook or can 't be bothered, and use Rick 's name instead to charge a fortune for a 'bad pub meal . Very disappointed, will not recommend and will not come back."

"Completely horrible experience. On spec table for 2 which was available but had to wait in lounge. First mistake... no offer of a drink while waiting. Seated after a short wait. Took a while for drinks order to be taken. Starter, garlic bread with cheese. Pizza base, little garlic and smothered in basil oil no mention of which on menu) base soggy. Seafood starter consisted of crab croquettes like cheap scampi) deep fried white bait. Soggy) calamari chewy) and bullet prawns! All served lukewarm. Main of cajun pizza... inedible. So burnt. Main of seafood marinara, Oily pasta with a few cherry tomatoes. I understand marinara is a tomato based sauce? Mussels which were the only flavoursome part and of course, the bullet prawns. 3 times our server passed and saw my empty glass with out asking if i wanted another, I had to ask for another drink. My husband was too embarrassed to complain and would not let me do so. We paid for the food and asked for the pizza to be boxed for home to save an embarrassing complaint scene. Pizza was thrown away! 65 pounds for most part to be thrown away. I have contacted via email to raise concerns and no response. I have no idea how this place is so busy. Terrible food and service. "I enjoy Chinese food, especially noodles, but this was the first time that I experienced such stinky and terrible tasting noodles that I had to take them off my plate. The lamb and vegetable dishes were absolutely delicious, but I can still taste and smell the unpleasant noodles. I think it was possibly just a mistake, but it definitely affected my overall experience."

"Nice little place next to the harbour. Food was acceptable if not overpriced for what it was. My food was the Cod giujons on a bap with fries. The bun was a little dry as the two giujons did not fill the bap, and there was only one lettuce leaf with no garnish, etc. Edible, but for the price, I would expect a little more. Fries were good and lots of them. Two adult meals and a child's meal came to over £36 without drinks, so it seems expensive. I would add that I overheard some of the younger staff swearing to each other but within earshot of my 4 Yr old granddaughter so not overly impressed although they were friendly and attentive with the customers. A mixed review. Would I go again? Maybe, if the price was lower and the staff kept their conversation professional within earshot of customers."

"We were really looking forward to trying the seafood platter. The presentation wasn 't exciting, felt like everything had just been plopped onto the platter with no thought. There was water and brine puddling on the platter, I overheard someone on the table next to us saying the same thing about theirs. Perhaps they were short-staffed and it was an off day because whoever prepared our platter had little experience and no love for seafood which is simple to prepare especially in a seafood restaurant. Most of the seafood had obviously just been defrosted, hence the water. I do feel that the seafood shouldn 't be advertised as being 'fresh ' when this isn 't the case, fresh should be advertised as fresh and where frozen you as a restaurant are obliged to let customers know they are paying for and eating frozen seafood. Some but not all customers know the difference straight away. Whether a customer can tell the difference is irrelevant, it isn 't good practice to not be truthful especially where food is concerned. The only reason I was reluctant to complain was because this was a treat and I didn 't want to ruin the afternoon. We will return to the island which is really lovely but unfortunately not back to this place which strangely doesn 't even offer basic traditional fish and chips, I fact no hot food at all! After wandering around, there are much nicer places to eat for next time."

"We celebrated our daughter's birthday at The Farmer's Home and had a fantastic dinner. The portions were generous and the food was delicious. The staff was welcoming and provided excellent service. I had the mönchskorma omg last night! the seabass is stunning and steve makes the best shlit shoes and kaper. the insert is mouthwater and in any case try the broccolini! mixed with parmesan and chili. the restaurant is immaculate and very cozy with a great atmosphere. all products are bought before location and everything is fresh. as they can say, it is our favorite local restaurant and if they have not experienced it, in any case they give it a jump, but make sure they book in advance because it is always busy!"

"Delicious food and excellent service! After hearing so many positive reviews about The Cotton House, I decided to book a table and experience it for myself. With a wide selection available on their main menu as well as a pre-Theatre/Sunday menu, I opted for the full three-course meal. I started with crispy pancake rolls, followed by crushed crispy chicken served with fried rice, and concluded with a refreshing mango sorbet. My party of five all remarked on how tasty their dishes were. I appreciated the option to take home any leftovers, which allowed me to enjoy lunch for the next days. The restaurant's interior is beautifully decorated, creating a wonderful atmosphere for any dining occasion, whether it’s a romantic dinner or a family gathering. Overall, it was a fantastic experience, and I highly recommend it. I can't wait to plan another visit!"

"I love my seafood and whilst visiting Amble in Northumberland, Jasper’s Bistro did not disappoint. My family and I were welcomed at around as an opportunist walk-in (in the future I will book in advance) and we’re lucky enough to get seated and fabulously...fed in the lull before dinner. We ordered seafood dishes from the specials board and the a la carte which included lindisfarne oysters, squid with garlic, mussels in a garlic and cream sauce to start and we followed this with lobster with garlic and anchovy tapenade, whole crab salad, beer battered monkfish with twice cooked chunky chips -all beautifully presented, cooked to perfection and tasting fabulous and in my case, washed down by local beer. Nothing was too much trouble for our server with kids trying lobster for the first time (big success btw) extra plates, tools, napkins were all helpfully provided. No hesitation in recommending this little gem of a restaurant from our experience today!"

"We went here late Friday afternoon for their 1/2 price Fish Chips. We were so impressed. Firstly, I’m a vegetarian, so eat dairy and I really wanted veggie fish and chips as the husband was having F C. They have halloumi on the menu here, so I barefaced asked if they’d do some halloumi in batter so that I could have similar to the Mr. They agreed and when it came out it looked amazing and tasted really delicious, very naughty, but hey, it was Friday and looked like Fish and Chips and bonus, 1/2 price! This traditional pub just outside Bicester is absolutely wonderful, so friendly and cosy, especially with the wood burner lit which oozes the ambiance needed on a crisp Autumnal afternoon/evening. We were looked after impeccably by the staff, especially our lovely waiting person, she couldn’t do enough to make sure our stay was worthwhile. I’d come here every Friday if my waist line could take it!"

"Food was not as expected My wife’s Sticky chicken was dry and tough (obviously reheated) so when she pointed this out politely and without making a fuss was promptly offered an alternative which she declined because that’s what she ordered and it should have been worth eating in the first place ! I must point out that the the lady serving was very nice and apologetic however was less impressed with the response from the person who gave us the bill who when I questioned about paying full price for that meal was promptly reminded that my wife refused a replacement and should have requested a price reduction before she printed off the bill and in full earshot of other diners which we didn’t appreciate ! However the bill was adjusted and we left the restaurant with the opinion that we would now not choose to return. "I have been a regular customer for many years at Costa in Sidmouth have always found the front of house staff to be great, sadly those staff are let down by a Manager (Phil) who has no people or customer service skills.I rarely if ever make a complaint but sadly today 13/02/21 my patience ran out with the terse attitude of this Manager which I have felt previously on other visits, this guy is supposed to be welcoming, not frosty charmless.After work, myself a workmate popped into costa to grab a coffee, while he joined the queue I just sat down on the stone seat by the food counter as many people often do, without so much as a hello, Phil the manager honed in on me with aggression said OFF OF THAT SEAT offended doesn 't cover it but I did retort as I grabbed my workmate to leave I said I told you he was a miserable sod I couldn 't help but feel sickened as we left as I did nothing wrong, my workmate honestly thought it was some joke the manager was playing but sadly it was only too real for me, leaving a permanent scar with this Costa, which I won 't visit again whilst he is in charge!"

"Shocking dining experience! An absolute travesty!! This used to be a superb pub (service and fayre); in the days when its exterior was adorned in a lovely duck egg blue, in keeping with it’s wonderfully quirky name. Stood at the bar we were ignored by the 3 members of staff engaged in private conversation. After a few minutes of awkwardness, we had to ask for some service. The menu (which had suffered more than it’s fair share of spillages) was not very extensive (only 3 grill choices). The wine menu was poorly constructed of single sheet papers squeezed into a narrow binder, not easy to open and peruse (it fell apart in my hand). The wait for food was substantial and our 2 sirloin steaks were under par. Not very hot, too much fat, and under cooked but still a weighty price at £24.00 for 8ozs. We weren’t asked if everything was ok and given the poor staff patronage, we lost the will to complain! I ordered a second glass of wine and was alerted to a conversation between two members of staff who couldn’t locate my order. So, one advised to ‘just give him Malbec, as it’s already open’. I hadn’t ordered a Malbec but it was poured and they gave it to another member of staff, without telling him it was the wrong wine. He duly apologised but much uncomfortable toing and froing ensued, while we were trying to eat, to locate the wine I had ordered which was to no avail. Staff clearly lack managerial direction. A disappointing experience; a clear demise of service and standards in this establishment, we couldn’t wait to leave! NOT recommended and will NOT be going back!"
