"We’ve been to Y Celstryn training restaurant, Coleg Cambria, Deeside (Kelsterston College as was) many times for a great weekday meal and we’ve never been disappointed. Therefore when we were looking for a venue to host an afternoon tea on a Saturday afternoon for 70 people to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary I asked the restaurant if they would consider doing such an event. I’m glad to say they said yes and they’ve worked with me over the months to ‘fine tune’ our requirements. I cannot shout the restaurant’s praises loud enough. We had an amazing afternoon, every single detail was taken care of. The students were all so lovely to our guests (who ranged in age from 2- 100 yrs). They’d set up a really nice little area for children to play/colour. The tables were beautifully laid out and the food was just exceptional – so well presented, and tasted out of this world. We had a selection of sandwiches and rolls followed by afternoon tea pastries: Coronation chicken on sun-dried tomato and olive bread Smoked salmon with infused crème fraiche, watercress on malted brown bread Classic egg salad with mustard on white bread Cucumber, minted crème cheese on spinach bread Boned ham with whole grain mustard, apple chutney on carrot and coriander bread Freshly baked sultana and plain scones with clotted cream, home-made lemon curd and strawberry preserve Selection of pastries and cakes. Everyone we’ve spoken to since the party has commented on the ‘top notch’ food and what a lovely venue it is for a celebration. The restaurant is licensed and has a large car park (which is always full during the week) but we had the whole car park on Saturday afternoon. THANK YOU TO ALL THE STAFF AND STUDENTS INVOLVED IN OUR EVENT."

"Some of the staff quite poorly trained. They were all polite and seeminlingly lovely, but lacked some basics, for example, they took a good 5-10 minutes to even bring a menu over, had to eyeball them in the end. My girlfriend ordered a 5-stack of bacon pancakes, was brought a 3-stack. I asked for brown sauce once my food had arrived and the young girl brought it over in a tiny glass pot, on a small plate, which there clearly wasn 't room for, so she perched it on the end of the table and it inevitably fell off and smashed. They also forgot to put my black pudding with my food which I didn 't realise until I asked for the bill) As for the food, I wasn 't impressed for the price. They brought my big breakfast over which had the measleyest portion of beans I think I 've ever seen, which was half juice and luke warm. Good gourmet sausage, undercooked eggs, cold toast, decent bacon and fried potatoes but for £13 not great. My partner 's pancakes were a bit dry she said and everything came out really fast, which some may consider a positive, but I 'd rather wait and have freshly cooked food. I can get a breakfast from werherspoos that 's been sat there for half an hour and it 'll cost me a lot less. When they brought the bill, and I pointed out that my black pudding wasn 't put on my plate, the waitress asked if I wanted it now, which I find a bit silly. I 'm not going to sit there and eat a dry bit of black pudding when we 're ready to leave. So I asked for a reduction of some kind. She offered to take my coffee off the bill, which was very kind because they 're about £4 but I was very annoyed to then notice once I 'd already paid) that an automatic 12.5% service charge was on there £4.11) essentially cancelling out my discount. I really hate it when places do that. It 's SO cheeky. Imagine your mechanic said I 've changed your tyres really nice Dave, I 'm gonna put an extra fiver on your bill for a bag of chips, sound? You 'd soon tell him where to go. I 'm not tight, but I don 't like feeling ripped off. If I have a particularly good service, I 'll give an extra fiver, but to expect it every time, even when you 've done a bad job, is absurd. The staff are all on at least the minimum wage, so it 's not like in America where they rely on tips because they 're poorly paid, so why should they get automatic tips? What about the people in Tesco or ASDA on minimum wage? They don 't get tips. It ain 't fair. Anyway, rant over. My conclusion bad experience."

"When we addressed this with the owner, he became angry, aggressive, and rude. He was even about to shut the door in my face when his wife appeared with a knife in hand. I asked her why she was approaching me with a knife, and her response was, “I’m busy and working!” She was very aggressive and seemed unable to handle any constructive feedback. My husband, hearing the commotion, stepped in, but she directed her aggression at him too, asking how old we were, which felt completely irrelevant. She then boasted about being 67 and still working hard. I asked for a refund since the service did not match the price we paid, but she flatly refused, stating they don’t do refunds. I noticed other customers enjoying their cafetière coffee served in proper china. When we mentioned this to the owners, they justified it by saying those customers were friends of theirs. So what about us? We were paying guests too! This was a deeply upsetting experience for both of us, and we plan to report this to the local police, the tourist board, and trading standards. The charming tea room will not be so pleasant once we’re done with them. We've never been treated so poorly as customers, and being threatened with a knife by a senior was particularly shocking. I strongly advise against visiting this place unless you want to be treated as a friend with respect and proper service."
