"When we addressed this with the owner, he became angry, aggressive, and rude. He was even about to shut the door in my face when his wife appeared with a knife in hand. I asked her why she was approaching me with a knife, and her response was, “I’m busy and working!” She was very aggressive and seemed unable to handle any constructive feedback. My husband, hearing the commotion, stepped in, but she directed her aggression at him too, asking how old we were, which felt completely irrelevant. She then boasted about being 67 and still working hard. I asked for a refund since the service did not match the price we paid, but she flatly refused, stating they don’t do refunds. I noticed other customers enjoying their cafetière coffee served in proper china. When we mentioned this to the owners, they justified it by saying those customers were friends of theirs. So what about us? We were paying guests too! This was a deeply upsetting experience for both of us, and we plan to report this to the local police, the tourist board, and trading standards. The charming tea room will not be so pleasant once we’re done with them. We've never been treated so poorly as customers, and being threatened with a knife by a senior was particularly shocking. I strongly advise against visiting this place unless you want to be treated as a friend with respect and proper service."

"This was an absolutely wonderful experience. We came here for my birthday after buying a voucher through Virgin Experiences, and we weren’t disappointed. Firstly, the staff are extremely friendly and took the time to discuss my dietary requirements. They also had an absolutely fantastic selection of tea from around the world, which was unlimited. This includes various oolong teas, black teas, white teas and teas such as rose bud tea and peppermint tea. I tried a green tea and the peppermint tea which was absolutely delicious. Their own blend looked delicious too. The espressos were also very nice. In regards to the food, this was fantastic. When they bring the plates, they explain the order in which to eat them to have the best possible experience and the menu has recommendations on tea to have with each course. Each sandwich was absolutely delicious, and the cakes were to die for too. Once you’re done with this, they bring out warm scones with jam and cream which are amazing. I liked that they were able to fully accommodate my dairy free requirements here too by offering vegan versions of dairy products. They also presented me with a birthday card and a small birthday dessert which I really appreciated, and this was a lovely touch. They also didn’t make us feel rushed which was great, and helped us to relax. The only criticism I would have is that it would be good to have a seating area whilst you’re waiting for your table. For certain teas like peppermint, the strainers could be a bit a bit smaller to stop leaves getting through and into the cup. Apart from that though, this was a great experience and I would absolutely recommend it to anyone. I would definitely come back here, as this was a thoroughly enjoyable visit."

"I know people rave about this place and It has a Michelin Green Star, however my family and I were so disappointed. I have only just now had an opportunity to post a review. It was my daughters 16th Birthday and she especially wanted to come and experience the food and ambience. For a set £90 per head for 3 course before drinks, there was no other options to have less food. The appetizers listed were so common place and uninspired. Melon with prosciutto and bruschetta with tomatoes??? My partner and I don’t eat bacon so we were given a small piece of the melon with a basil leaf instead. Three of us had the linguine with chili crab and one had the Scottish griolles on bruschetta. The crab linguine was like eating pasta swimming in lemon dish water. It was overly lemony and you couldn’t taste the crab at all. The mushrooms on toast were soggy and again nothing special. For mains the girls fared better, one had the lamb and the other the beef which was reasonable. I had the plaice and my partner had the sea bream. Unfortunately both dishes were absolutely tasteless. I would say that I have a discerning palate and can appreciate the more subtle flavors of these two fish dishes but I’m afraid I had to basically force myself to finish the fish so that I wouldn’t waste the £30 it cost to have this dish in front of me. The potato side we ordered was overly salted so was jarring against the flavourless fish. Two of the desserts were the only discernible dishes that were remotely passable from the menu we experienced this evening. The strawberry cheesecake and the peach frangipane tart which were nice enough but for £30 for each dessert I was expecting something special. one of my daughters ordered the tiramisu, which was a deconstructed version of the dessert and it was a hopeless effort that came with a side of very strong expresso which they didn’t explain at all. So unbeknownst to my daughter she poured most of it over the dessert and the end result was inedible. The atmosphere wasn’t that great, the staff were attentive in a slightly haughty way but I wish they would have explained the dishes a little more. All in all I will not be back and I will give an honest opinion to anyone that asks me about our visit to the restaurant, this is one of the worst meal I have had all year."
