A refreshing cold soup with ripe tomatoes, cucumbers, bell peppers, onions, olive oil, and vinegar, perfect for a light summer appetizer.

"A very nice menu, the cod was very fresh, with absolutely delicious chips. Personally the mayonnaise was too strong to be served on the plate, I would have appreciated being told, then I could have asked for it on the side. My husband’s steak was very well cooked, attention to detail was second to none. It was a little thin which meant it wasn’t perfect. Again served with delicious chips. We chose an expensive wine as we were celebrating, however it didn’t live up to expectations, it didn’t have the complexity you’d expect at that price. Overall, the restaurant is lovely, a very good experience overall, We will definitely return, and recommend."

"we enjoyed an excellent three-course menu. yes the menu choice was small, but we felt that the cook had taken time to produce a balanced menu with an interesting and appealing selection of dressed. we prefer this as an extensive menu that tries to be all...things, and it also meant that we felt unhurried and read the complete description of each plate before they decide. the restaurant is located in the waitery chapel down and a wine pairing was proposed for each court. for the main I chose the pork bell, pink peppercorn toffee and karamilized ananas as a rotation on the usual pork/apple combination. it worked very well! service was very good and we both noticed that the head always questioned the restaurant so there was never a question to catch his eye. he chatted with various other diners, unmarried and with good humor. I have read other critics who say overpriced for small tellers etc., but after our opinion it meant that we were able to comfortably manage the 3 courses and we appreciate the quality of the kitchen. we also thought it was an excellent value for money. we wish the restaurant every success."

"What a unique and wonderful sensory experience, a hidden gem! Fabulous garden, fresh 3 course late lunch for two on Friday 2nd August. The passion and love for their ingredients was self evident but to be clear this place is big on “character” and “slow food”, the antithesis of modern chain restaurants and more authentic and in stark contrast to the more formulaic and manicured “farmshop garden centre” restaurants typical of the area. It’s like eating in someone’s private kitchen garden or giant allotment. Talk about field to plate provenance, ingredients don’t get fresher than this! We were fortunate to visit on a warm summer afternoon and our table for two, shaded by parasol and fruit trees, was alfresco rambling kitchen garden summer perfection. Other tables for 2, 4 and 6 are spaced so far apart around the restaurant sheds and out into the abundant gardens that we didn’t notice half of them until we explored later. For seating at other times of year there appeared to be rustic tables in two parts of the shed and one high ceilinged greenhouse. The menu is short and, as advertised, seasonal. To start we shared decadent pork crackling with a mirabelle chutney and beautifully sweet tomatoes in a caprese like salad. For our mains we chose the house mezze principally homemade babaganoush (fabulous), hummus, tomatillo salad with crusty white house baked ciabatta style bread and then whole mackerel (bbq chard) and beetroot. It was a crime not to try more than one of the three fabulous looking puddings something chocolate, an amazing sounding cheesecake and a mixed fruit frangipane. We had the latter a taste sensation. We made the most of the suggestion to explore the gardens and there appeared to be no limitations to this. There are a number of huge greenhouses bursting with tomato plants, vines and other veg. These are interspersed with combined vegetable and flower beds and fruit trees. We found chickens, geese and turkeys but must have missed the pigs. On our way we came across friendly gardeners and Stacey Gledhill, the artist in residence for the summer. To be clear these are not manicured gardens, they are beautifully wild and at this time of year watering and harvesting takes priority over weeding or meticulous tidying up. Since our visit I’ve read back through reviews on the usual platforms and have noticed occasionally severe criticism of this establishment when it comes to service, speed of service and pricing. We have no such complaints but it is possible to imagine how they might occasionally arise. Staff are surely not drilled to corporate style rulebooks; some tables are hidden and further from the hub; for this quality, prices are understandably at the high end of gastropub levels; and this is a working kitchen garden. In the end it’s a matter of taste, preferences and expectations. For us this was genuinely a five star exceeded expectations experience in all respects."

"We stopped here overnight while travelling south, booking a ground floor room with breakfast as well as an eveningmeal. The room was adequate but dark with a toilet that ran all night. The evening meal, main course, arrived warm and although we were offered to have it replated, we just wanted to get through the meal and get to bed,we had had a long day. The meal should not have been sent out of the kitchen just warm and not hot. The breakfast was excellent! Would we return? No."

"My far my favourite restaurant, again just another great evening at Tasca Dali, our friends from Poland who had come to visit where blown away by the delicious food, the attention to detail and as always the incredible service, all the guys there go above...and beyond for everyone with so much knowledge about the food we are having. The secret menu is ever changing and never disappoints. As always an amazing and fantastic experience, can not wait until next time. Thank you for being so accommodating and making our party of 5 feel like we had the best evening. Can no recommend this restaurant highly enough. A must visit establishment."

"Amazing flavours brought together on each plate, 3 of us swapped fork fulls of our choices of meals, so glad we all went for very different meals, from mussels, beef, scallops, brill, lamb and pork. Then the puddings came out ...oh my life... apple sorbet and so much more, chocolate mousse thing with so many delicious other things. The whole experience of fine food, relaxed atmosphere was brilliant. I have eaten here on every visit to Porthleven, 4 times in all and rate this restaurant as number 1 in my favourite places to eat in Cornwall Food and location makes it 5 stars from me ."

"big pub! the personal simply super, very friendly and attentive. with six rooms the royal oak is also very easy to handle. they are so cozy that you almost don't want to get up anymore. There's only fantastic. the portions are sufficient and there are also vegetarian / vegan dishes. and they can try to buy the gin from james here. the reception as well as the W-LAN are sometimes a bit bad, but otherwise I am really excited about this great accommodation."

"Good food and nice atmosphere. There was a slight issue in that I contacted them to add an extra person to the booking earlier in the week which they confirmed was fine. When we got there the booking was still for 4 people- this was quickly resolved and we were accommodated as a group of 5. The restaurant was quite hard to find as the Google pin wasn't totally accurate and the restaurant sign is hidden by a canopy."

"I booked a Groupon meal for four people (4* Two Course Meal with Prosecco) at the Woughton Hotel Seasons Restaurant for the 25th Jan. When we arrived the venue looked lovely and as we were early we had a drink in the bar. We made our way to the restaurant where two men were seated but had to wait for about five minutes before a waiter arrived and showed us to our seats. We were seated in the back part of the restaurant which was dimly lit it made us feel like 2nd class citizens! During our meal the two men left and two other people were seated in the more brightly lit, front part of the restaurant as they were eating from the à la carte menu! We selected our starters and mains and eventually the starters were served. Two of us had the soup which was nicely presented in a jug with the bowl on a small rectangular plate. Unfortunately it was not piping hot and when poured into the cold bowl, it chilled off even more. Also the taste was very nondescript it was supposed to be vegetable but it was hard to tell. Annoyingly the waiter lent across us to serve instead of serving us from the left. After some time, the mains arrived but unfortunately the two duck dishes were not as expected. The duck was tough and again nowhere near hot enough. One dish was changed for sea bass after complaining, but this too was not attractive or tasty. Overall the menu was very limited. The restaurant was almost empty and so there was no excuse to serve luke warm food all in all the food was mediocre and the service sub standard and very slow. We were bitterly disappointed and left before the table had been cleared. My father phoned and complained to the manager (Gareth) who said he would talk to the head chef and get back to him. We are still waiting for a response.... very unimpressed with the whole experience. Would not recommend eating at this hotel."

"a few yards from the bank of england is hispania, an ambitious opening that in this phase is a tapas bar and business, but later in 2013 will be a 35-seat fine restaurant. the chef of the future restaurant will be michelin with marcos moran by casa gerardo in asturias,) but this evaluation is the tapas bar.<br/ <br/ the spatial features are very smart, with floor tiles and marble from spanies, bronze light fittings and a high deck. on the ground floor there is a tapas bar and a small deli, on the upper floor a sherry bar and a private dining room. the fine restaurant will be above, beside the open kitchen.<br/ <br/ the short weinlist started at £21 and had choices like cuatro rayas verdejo at £28 for a wein that they can find in the high street for £6, mar de frades sparkles albarino nw to £55 for a wein that sells at around £18, and merto tempranillo to £82. since a wein was 120 pounds, it seems bizarre to me not find any vintages. Certainly Spanish weine do not have the same level of vintage variation as more north wine growing areas, but there is certainly variation, and any interest in wein will want to know the vintage that they are about to order. slightly creamier than a classic gazpacho, had this deep tomate aroma, and exactly the correct amount of olive oil, with enough vinegar to balance the oil 14/20.) each element was made beautiful, and the contrast of textures worked well 14/20).<br <br/ service was friendly, and the waiter in the position to ask about eating without answering to the kitchen. in portions were quite generous, and three tapas would be much for a satisfactory meal. with a modest wein and coffee would come a typical bill to about £50 per head. overall I liked hispania. the cooking felt more authentic Spanish than many of the mainstream tapas bars in london, many of which are operated by non-Spaards.) surely the dishes I tried had more care and attention to them than in many london restaurants. I would come back happy and am intrigued to taste the fine restaurant as and when it opens."

"Thieves !! Deplorable experience. I order pork belly. The song arrives. I taste a small slice. It seems very oily to me in the mouth. I mean brisket is a fatty piece but also not composed entirely of fat, I know it well from eating and cooking it regularly. I open the piece to remove a little fat and I realize that there is actually only fat! I pointed this out to the waiter who, after an exchange with the cook, accused us of lying and of having eaten all the meat! He refuses to exchange the piece with us. We left and finished our meal at another establishment. During our stay, we were able to taste other, much better pork belly. This dishonest restaurant should be avoided. The taste was correct without being incredible, yielding in particular to ease: a lot of sugar, salt, which reveals poor control."

"Myself and four friends booked a twighlight spa package which included a two course dinner and glass of fizz for friday afternoon/evening. The spa is lovely although the changing rooms are slightly tight for space. After our treatment, which was excellent, but sadly too short, we then moved over to the manor house for cocktails and dinner which were wonderful! We then walked back to my friends holiday home along the beach leaving our car at the hotel for the night which we had pre-arranged for picking up the next day. One of the girls realised that she had left her jacket at the hotel after we'd picked the car up the next day so we decided to book Sunday lunch at the restaurant as we had been so impressed, however when we arrived for our 12.00 table it was not ready (our fault entirely as we were five minutes early) The lady/maitre d was extreamly grumpy with us, telling us in a very stern tone to go and wait in the lounge. We never saw the lady again (thank goodness) a lovely young chap saw us sitting in the lounge and came over with menus, then taking us through to our table. The menu was almost the same as the friday night menu apart from the addition of a couple of roast choices. Our starters were excellent but unfortunately the roast was very disappointing, the gravy was extreamly watery and the meal overall was bland. The reason that I didn't rate five stars overall was because of our Sunday lunch experience. We will be back to use the spa!"

"I hadn't been here since my mother brought me as a teenager in 1965, when it was the Chalet Suisse. We were welcomed by a waitress seeing us coming and opening the door for us, ushered to a table by the window. We both had a fish dish, myself a crab-stuffed fillet of plaice, my wife a seabass paella with mussels. My plaice was succulently fresh, with a subtly spiced filling and sauce, The new potatoes were perfect. My wife is from a fishing family in Brittany so really knows her fish, and her saffron paella met with unconditional approval. The buckshee bread chunks in a basket already on the table were left, so I could enjoy mopping up the last of the lovely flavour of the juice. After polishing off the little extra pot of sweet potato fries, for dessert we had a special, Eton Mess, and banana cream profiteroles, which we swapped half way through, just gorgeous, and a filter coffee to finish off. With a couple of beers all for a fraction over £50 this was extraordinary value. This was no ordinary pub-chain grub. Every dish had something unusual and special to commend it, whether the spicy crab or the tart passionfruit syrup setting off the usually overwhelmingly sweet Eton Mess. This was proper cooking by someone who really knows their stuff, nicely presented but without fuss. Our fellow diners were all friendly and accomodating in a fairly small space, some engaging in jolly conversation with us. The service was attentive, kind. and unobtrusive. There was music but not overly loud and the atmosphere was relaxed and unhurried. I've heard this place mentioned by others before over the years and very much wish we'd made the effort to visit before now, our wedding anniversary. We will go again for sure, and take others with us too!"

"Totally lived up to our expectations. We have been visiting The Shed and this time decide to try another one of their place and happy to say we will come back. Since it’s from the farm to your plate, the produce was top class and the flavours and textures absolutely on point. My favourite dish was the (I’m vegetarian) oyster mushroom and celeriac purée and the leek hearts with honey truffle yogurt. Of the goats cheese and almonds is their classic from The Shed which you must order. We asked for some bread to go with it and that too was warm fresh and with some smoked butter which was sinfulllll. However the vienetta parfait was disappointing but hey .. the food made up for it. Will be going back for the tasting menu next time. Thank you Rabbit "

"There's a Dilbert cartoon where perennially downtrodden Dilbert approaches the pointy-haired boss's desk with a suggestion, only to see a sign on the wall that reads if it were a good idea, someone else would have already thought of it'. We've suggested a few times in this blog that Michelin starred tasting menus can be somewhat formulaic but we understand that there's safety in predictability. But we at least love something different so there's relish for us in finding somewhere totally original, and 21212 is exactly that, totally original. But before we jump for joy, there's always the risk that such originality can badly backfire, so how would 21212 fare? Indeed, the reason that 21212...read more"

"We have been to the Sun Inn several times over the years and have always been amazed by the attentive and friendly staff. For a team so young they do deliver a mature level of service. Apart from the service the quality of food wine, presentation, ambience have all been very good. We invited friends of ours who were dining here for the first time and they too were impressed. We did have a couple of awkward moments with a forgotten order and an embarassing mix up with bills but the manager sorted it out and assured us it will not happen again. When we are in the area again we will definitely dine here."

"Since my last review, I 'vehad another series of stratospheric meals at the Locanda. Last time we went for the classic pasta with genovese sauce, one of the most intense flavour experiences you can imagine, with the deep sweetness from the onion caramelization and umami from the meat; and a new entry, pasta with a cream of peas, superbly fresh and light and Summery, with just the right amount of spicy heat to add a dimension. And for main, another super-classic, the mare nel piatto , full of delights from the sea, and welcome pieces of toasted bread to soak up all the goodness that remains in the soup. We also tried a delicious frittata starter (the mare nel piatto is so large that we had no space for a second main after the pastas! , coming with gazpacho, a stroke of genius by chef Rosario. To conclude, we could only fit two affogati with hazelnut ice-cream, forgoing the other tempting options. Service was led by the extraordinary duo Elena and Raffaele who so much contribute to the unique atmosphere of this place. Prices remain supremely reasonable for the quality (and quantity! , in spite of the cost rise that has affected everybody."

"As two mummies of young boys (her of two, me of one), Emily and I couldn’t have chosen a better day to plan our overnight escape to Melville Castle, which is located on the Southern tip of Edinburgh towards Dalkeith. The sun was virtually splitting the trees as we drove up the private approach road, and as it happens, trees are something the lush grounds are pretty flush with, the bucolic setting a mere 8 miles from the city centre. A neo-gothic mansion house, it was designed by James Playfair (brother of William) and built between 1786-90 for Henry Dundas, 1st Viscount Melville. By the 1980s the building had been abandoned and was in ruin, later bought and restored in the 1990s by developer William Hay who wanted to bring the property back to life and run it as a hotel venue."

"We have eaten here for at least 16 years or more on our frequent visits to Suffolk. The food is superb and innovative and far surpasses some Michelin restaurants we have eaten at. I require gluten and dairy free food and they always go the extra mile to ensure everything is fine for me. What impresses is that they offer at least 3 desserts catering for my dietary requiements and they are always different and unique. In most places I just get offered vegan ice cream or sorbet we think that the prices charged are very reasonable when you consider the time, the best ingredients and presentation involved. The staff are always very pleasant and helpful. We think it's the best value restaurant in Suffolk."
