"Thank you Melanie Phillips for your review of this establishment. My family are booking purely on the back of this review. It's about time restaurants took a stand on allowing dogs in. It is unhygienic and some people even lift them up to the table gross habit. There should only be officially registered guide dogs allowed in restaurants. I understand during the day some cafes bending the rules but surely dogs can be left a short time while you eat a lovely meal without dog hair. Well done spice house you've got our business Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5"

"We have been ordering from The Standard for a long time and already know how great the food is but I wanted to post a review to say thank you for our lunch which was delivered on Sunday. It was for a large group to celebrate a birthday so it was important to get everything right and we were not let down. The food arrived on time, in separate bags with the persons name on it, the food was hot and fresh tasting and everything was outstanding, with complimentary poppadoms and pickles. The age range at the birthday was between 20 and 88 and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their dishes. I just want to say thank you to The Standard for making our birthday celebrations perfect and the weather was great too!"

"This place would not be for everyone but to me has to be one of Birmingham's best kept secrets. The outside of this place is a traditional boozer but as soon as you walk in you are hot with the smell of amazing Indian cooking! We were shown to our table and had our drink orders taken quickly....but don't be expecting restaurant table service this was a full on lean behind and order across the bar near where we were sat. Possibly one of the most relaxed services I have ever seen but the staff could not have done more for us. We ordered a large mixed grill to share and some masala seasoned fries....no I am not joking the food was insanely good. The platter was packed full of chicken, fish and lamb and everything was perfectly cooked and spiced. We had two cokes each while eating and the bill only came to 25! Amazing value and my friend said it was as good as the good she had while visiting India....I have not been but judging from the quality meal we had I want to go ASAP. Now I need to re-illiterate an earlier point this place is not a restaurant....it's a pub serving amazing food that is very much a traditional Brum Boozer. While we were in the place we watched the footy, chatted to some guys crowded round the bar and listened to some people singing football chants (it was some sort of football final) To me this adds to the charm but I know it wouldn't be for everyone. My advice....go here....eat all the meat...."

"Upon arriving at Gurkha Village, one might initially feel uneasy. Located in a converted pub in a run-down area, the restaurant's appearance is not very inviting. Despite booking a table for Sunday lunch, we were the only patrons there during our meal. The staff, although attentive, seemed to have no other customers to attend to. The decor and menu lacked any distinct Nepalese influences, which was disappointing as that was the reason we chose to dine there. It seemed like just another Asian restaurant in the Medway area, where competition is fierce. As for the food, it was decent. The lamb pasanda had a nice smoky flavor that was not overwhelming. It was a refreshing change from the usual curry house options. I tried the chicken dhansak, which also had a unique fruity taste. The dining area and bathrooms were clean, and I can see Gurkha Village becoming a popular takeout option for locals in the future."

"New owner fantastic food. Having been a big fan of Tamasha for many years ,when long serving manager Bilop took over at Madhuwan Felt I had to give it a try. Although not situated in the best part of Bromley this is a must visit restaurant. The sauces for all our food was cooked fresh and although this does mean a slightly longer delay it is well worth the wait. All the ingredients seemed really fresh and the squid starter was fantastic ! The prices are very reasonable and an absolute steal for the quality of food especially compared to the prices at Tamasha ."

"I visited The Indian Smokehouse on Sunday 24th June with my family. Service was outstanding, we were told how the ordering and seating system worked and served our drinks by a very polite member of staff. Our food order was taken diligently and carefully and upon food being served, the quality of the food was outstanding. The environment within the venue is comfortable and accommodating and we had good value for money, we felt very much at home. Thank you, hope to visit again soon."

"Had dinner here tonight and it was absolutely delicious. There was a great vegetarian selection for both starters and mains. I had the chana puri and paneer masala which was so good. Portion sizes were just right, naan bread was lovely and the drinks were very extensive and everything was reasonably priced. The atmosphere was calm and at ease, something which is hard to come by these days, and the staff were attentive, humourous and engaging. We didn't go here during the government's Eat out to Help Out scheme, but all I can say is that Mumbai's Diner Club was not only cheaper but better value than the places we did go during August. I'll definitely be back, I've still so much of the menu to try!"

"I had a wonderful birthday meal at this restaurant tonight. After returning to the area, I took a chance on booking a table here because it was a favorite spot from my childhood and I even worked here for a few years as a young adult. I was delighted to find that the bar was just as welcoming and friendly as I remembered, and even some of my old neighbors from my childhood greeted me by name, which made me very happy! The food was exceptional... My friend and I started with momos, served by the friendly waitress, Sonia. The mixed grill and lamb vindaloo were absolutely delicious! We had to take some home because we couldn't finish it all. Thank you for a lovely meal- I will definitely be back soon."

"Group of 4 friends visited for a pre birthday treat. The food was overall nice enough though pricey! We did return one dish due to it being too salty and the waiter rectified this and charged us still. The portion sizes are small and the rice was absolutely miniature hardly enough for one person and priced at £3. I do wish I’d taken a picture to show you all. The drinks prices are also high. The ambience was nice. The staff weren’t particularly friendly or attentive and could be seen rushing around like headless chickens mostly. Do not a service charge is added to the bill. The parking was free if visiting the restaurant. Overall nice but there are better places to eat so won’t be returning."

"The food was excellent, but unfortunately, the service was lacking this time. They were short-staffed, which isn't ideal for Valentine's night. However, the staff was very apologetic and honest about the reasons for the slow service. The lighting was quite bright, with some downlights shining directly in our faces, which took away from the romantic atmosphere. Despite these issues, the quality of the food is always worth the few pounds it costs."

"I usually never write bad reviews as it's best to say nothing at all if you don't have anything nice to say. Also we are quite easy to please. However, this restaurant is just atrocious. Rude waitresses who didn't know what was on the menu! Rude service when pushing people out of the way to place food on the table. Orders wrong. 2 hour wait for main course and restaurant was empty. Accompaniments clearly out of a jar......one being Strawberry jam with chicken! I kid you not! Drinks spilt on guests. Food brought out at different times. The list goes on and on. Like I said, usually I don't write bad reviews but this was too poor to miss."

"Takeaway came fast and food seemed nice. The portions were small compared with others. The big problem was my paneer makhani, a veggie dish, had a few small pieces of chicken in the sauce. Not the first time this has happened to me from Kadai Naan, so I assume they use chicken stock or something in the sauce, meaning the veggie dishes are not veggie. Called to ask, and they claimed there was no meat used, and then asked me why I had ordered chicken dishes if I was veggie (the order was for 2 people) Based on this I 'd say veggies steer clear, as it completely ruined my 'treat ' after a hard week."
