"Had a meal here today, 4 of us. Wasnt great, we had 2 chefs special starter to share, not enough bread for 2 people to have with camerbert and terrine. The terrine was ok but tasted like cornbeef. Camerbert was nice, the spicy chicken was nice. We asked for more bread it took so long to come out we had almost finished. When it eventually came out after asking twice, it was toasted and like little bruchettas. The main courses weren't great, had 2 mixed grills chicken was burnt on both mixed grills, had to ask for another 4oz steak as the first was well done when I asked for medium rare, the signature burger wasn't great pulled beef dripping was more like sliced beef hidden under the cheese with no sauce and the burger tasted more like grit. 10oz ribeye was probably the only good thing. Sticky toffee pudding was ok wasnt great. Had better. The menu looks better than what is served. Atmosphere wasn't great and wasn't busy yet everything took ages to come out like they were busy. Staff were friendly but no apology as to why food took so long. Alot of money was spent which could of got better elsewhere. Tables were sticky too like they had been cleaned with sugar. Not sure what has happened as have had better meals here in the past."

"Within easy reach of Cirencester, Cheltenham Gloucester, well worth the trip out into the nearby countryside. We arrived around 5pm pretty much had the place to ourselves. Staff where all friendly got.seated quickly. The food where good portions my mixed grill was well cooked, the meal was steak red wine pie. Followed up by a Eton mess a mini pudding with coffee. The pub has loads of history, lots of snug areas a real.wood burner in the bar area, so great.on a cold day they're dog friendly. Outside there are different seating areas to the front rear, with a kids play area to.the rear. Also plenty of off road parking. Would recommend they also dona 2/3 course meal Tuesday to Thursday after 4pm, which is a selection of courses fron the main menu great value for money."

"Really nice pub facing the river. We tend to stop here on bike rides to have a pint and eat some lunch. The scampi and chips are really good, as well as the steak salad. Wide variety of dishes to choose from with friendly service and indoor or outdoor comfortable seating. Highly recommend! Price is also better than other pubs in the area. Price per person: £10–20 Food: 4 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Recommended dishes: Ruddles Ale Pie Parking space: Plenty of parking Parking options: Free parking lot"

"We came for Sunday lunch and a chicken basket. The Sunday lunch was very basic and incredibly salty. I asked for more gravy aa it was dry and relieved what is in the picture. All over the sides as if it had been dipped in a pot. The chicken and chips were absolutely covered in salt. Inedible as so salty and ruined the meal. Very disappointed. Food: 1"

"I’m not usually one to write reviews, but the experience we had at Midsummer house compelled me to write something. What an incredible restaurant. I’m honestly baffled at how anyone could write a negative review about this place. I’m sitting here tonight feeling jealous of...the people who are there right now savouring the absolute delights of the tasting menu we had yesterday. My partner and I have been lucky enough to enjoy quite a few Michelin star restaurants, with Le Manoir/Sat Baines being firm faves. Midsummer house however, blows them all out the water. The food was quite simply out of this world amazing. The wine! Oh my word, the wine! What a pairing. I’m going to be spending a small fortune trying to source the beautiful wines we drank with our menu (thanks Molly). And at last, a restaurant where the desserts are equally as outstanding as the savoury courses. The Lychee and the coconut were unforgettable. Then there was the cheese course, rather than a cheese trolley (we were very sceptical) but WOW, incredible. I’m sad that I’ll probably never eat something that great ever again. To top it all off the service was absolutely spot on. Molly and Harry were so friendly and down to earth, they chatted to us all evening and really made the whole experience extra special. Thank you so much Midsummer House for a wonderful birthday. We’ll definitely be back!"

"Very large but rather soulless pub which hasn't made the most of its beautiful old buildings and clamped some hideous hotel on the side. Very useful as journey pitstop though. We weren't dining but the restaurant was busy which at three midday and midweek probably means the food is good. The lady who served us was nice and welcoming and the drinks order was exactly as requested. Toilets were clean, although no one seemed to have noticed the broken constantly running tap. If you are into Jane Austen you will get a kick out of the fact that this is where she used to wait for her post having walked across the fields from her home a few miles away."

"Had to wait about an hour to get in on a Saturday night. The fish and chips I can definitely recommend, while the Scottish cheese platter is definite no go it's just 3 pieces of cheese and some extra fruits for 12 pounds, hardly seemed worth it. Service was not great, the servers were struggling to keep up with the pace as the evening was quite busy, asked for extra plates and had to ask twice, hard to catch their glance if you need something. Regarding the wait although there were 4+ tables free people were being told to wait for 15 20 minutes, really not sure why. Not only that, but people were either not let into the corridor into the restaurant or were let in, but the door wasn't closed and a breeze kept being let in."

"We used to come here twice per year in the past 11 years. The place is gorgeous with a lot of potential but unfortunately people 's work there is ruining up!! On our last visit, i surprised someone sniffing lines of Cocaine in to the male toilets. Then we found out later that the sniffer was the manager, so we decided to leave our complaint here. He 's introduced himself Robert place manager . Bit of shame Rose revived with that type of staff"

"Came here with family after calling to book with no problem. We were told there was a few things unavailable (risotto, Vegan katsu, onion rings, cauliflower croquets), luckily we didn 't want any of these. The website menu shows toasties and sandwich/wrap available, but they only had 'open sandwiches ' on a separate menu. I went for the chicken, bacon and avocado one and was left quite disappointed. It was overall dry, bland and with a small amount of warm, wilted rocket next to it. More of a salad would have been better. I added some more mayo and bbq sauce and had some salad and chips from my families dishes which made it better. My family had the fish and chips (given garden peas when we asked for mushy), hunters chicken and chicken and ham pie (could have done with a bit more gravy). I then noticed another customer ordered an open sandwich and it looked like they had loads of rocket. So don 't know what happened with mine.. I expected better after seeing good reviews and the menu choice online. My family were satisfied their food, but we won 't bother returning."

"The location of the hotel is excellent, but the property itself feels a bit worn and in need of a renovation. The pool area was decent, but the only changing facility was a restroom without a lid, making it uncomfortable to dry off and get dressed properly. Additionally, the lockers didn’t have locks, which seems like a basic oversight. I also experienced the coldest jacuzzi I've ever encountered. Despite these issues, the location is truly wonderful. Overall, I would rate the rooms a 3, service a 3, and location a 5."

"I was extremely disappointed by the issues experienced at your pub on Saturday 8th June. What had been planned well in advance to celebrate a joyous occasion was extremely disappointing. The food was cold and was served at different times. Example my starter of soup came late whilst others were eating their mains. Steak was well done when it should have been rare. The table was thrown together with cutlery missing for 14 guests. As I have already reported the concerns with the duty manager yesterday I am expecting a call to rectify these concerns. The entainment trade should employ staff that can communicate when offering a service this was not experienced as the staff who tried to wait the table on Saturday were appalling. With no communication interpersonal skills. I will not be eating at this place again nor will I recommend it as an eatery."
