"This tiny restaurant in an Oxford backstreet serves the best Japanese food I’ve ever eaten anywhere. It’s a family setup and you are likely to be seated by the owner, then served food by his son that’s fresh off the pan wielded by his wife : Opening hours vary on different days of the week and one night a week is sushi night so no hot food. No reservations are taken so get there early or you’ll be queuing by the door – this isn’t the place for a long leisurely meal but perfect for lunch in town.Food is gorgeous, my favourites are the pork teriyaki and their eponymous edamame, which is much, much better than you’ll get from any of the Japanese chains like Itsu, Wasabi or Wagamama. They also serve hot saki and cold Calpis (if you know your Calpis from your Calpico then you’re a real Japanese food aficionado"

"I have been enjoying my experience at Eat Tokyo SoHo, Old Crumpton, London for a very long time. This afternoon is my first opportunity to finally say hello a senior staff who has been looking after me at this particular branch, for as long as I remember, his name is KIM. FOOD and SERVICE at this Eat Tokyo, SOHO is way much better than Covent Garden and Hammersmith combined! The staff are much more attentive, and seeing KIM at the branch can guarantee two things, 1st the queue will run at the most reasonable time; I was made to wait 30+ minutes at Covent Garden during less busy hours and the restaurant was semi emptied at the time of visit. Therefore, best Eat Tokyo in my opinion among the three mentioned above is SoHo. Foods are good, consistent, with friendly service, please keep up this standard, And thank you for looking after me for almost a decade now."

"I was excited to attend this restaurant for my partner's birthday due to good reviews. However, the service was extremely poor. We were only given 1 drink at the start of the meal and no offer was made for further drinks. One main meal never arrived after approximately 45 minutes, and when I asked about it, I was told the kitchen was busy and they only have 2 hands. We had to wait for another half hour for someone to take payment, only to be told that we pay on the way out and not at the table - this was not explained to us beforehand. Overall, the whole experience was disappointing and ruined what should have been a good night. We are big sushi fans, but we will not be returning to this restaurant."

"its on a quiet side street close to work and very easy to walk straight place. We were welcomed by cheery shouts from the smiley staff and went down the narrow spiral staircase to the cramped basement which rapidly filled up with diners (always a good sign). We tried the tar-tar chips were taco shells filled with sweet crab meat and avocado (even smaller than the Nobu portions but much better), an aubergine grilled with miso sauce, sushi and sashimi. The portions are small but you rapidly fill up. The food is delicious and the quality of the fish is top-notch. The waiting staff were friendly and helpful, answering all our questions."

"If Google did , this establishment would be a worthy contender. Found the place through trip advisor. Coming to Portsmouth with family to see a show and having a few hours to kill from .lunchtime. No wonder it has so many excellent reviews. From the fine dining professionals that are front of house, to the quality of the food served this place oozes quality. Prices aren't too steep and the overall dining experience is convivial. The steak pie (while not a massive portion) us more than enough for most and is delicious, served with chips and peas. I had the Onglet steak. As described, not quite as tender as some steaks I've eaten, but such deep delicious flavour. Served with vine tomatoes and chips For starters we had prawn cocktails. For dessert we had a chocolate mouse, lemon tart and a plate called a creme catalana. An amazing restaurant and well worth visiting if you're in Portsmouth. Thanks guys."

"Ordered from Uber Eats at 6.50pm and food was due between 7.25-7.45pm. I rang at 8pm and they told me the food was ‘leaving the kitchen in a few mins’ and would add in some extras for the delay. The food arrived at 8.25pm and it was not worth the wait. An hour’s delay for food that was cold, oily and my paratha was under cooked (doughy). I ordered saag aloo and it was nothing like the saag I have in my Indian household (that my grandmothers would make). We didn’t receive any extras. The Bayleaf used to be great but as with most of the Indian restaurants/takeaways in Abergavenny, I feel the food quality as well as customer service has gone down hill."

"Arrived at Japanese sun, all tables were full so glad we booked in advance. Ordered the wasabi margarita could only taste the copious amounts tequila... Looked amazing but taste was disgusting and not balanced. We were then approached for our food order: we asked for a recommendation on Sushi, we were told the deep fried tempura prawns were good (fyi not sushi and\or sashimi) we ordered the 16pc Nigiri and the eel unagi sashimi to start... 40 mins later we received the eel with an apology and some additional sushi (the free sushi was the best part of the whole meal) the eel was cooked?! Again, fyi, not sushi... the main course arrived and there were 8 pieces on the plate (are numbers calculated differently here... We ordered the 16 piece?! When we asked the very young lad if anything else was coming,he said no. We cut our losses and left after paying £50 for this debaucle... All in all, staff really need customer service training and also menu training perhaps a good idea to have a training day where they try the menu and can give educated recommendations based on this. Would love to see this place succeed but the atmosphere was deflated and if it wasn't for alcohol,we would have left before having to wait nearly an hour and a half for all of our food to come..."

"I just love this place! Reasonable price and very tasty fresh sushi! The guys who run the place are friendly at some level, but do not expect much.. go, eat, and leave. Some questions were answered as a plain “I don’t care”. I took few friends there for the first time and they were shocked with those answers! TIPS: try to get a table outside, there is a weird mix of scents/human odor inside that could put your appetite down! try not to use the toilet.. specially for times like these, soap bars and touchy tap should be avoided! soft shell crab sushi are amazing, same with dragon rolls, but a bit pricey, though. Ps.: I miss their Bento box at £9.99.. now ordering everything separate will be about 15 pounds. Not sure it’s worthy!"

"if they enjoy Japanese eating, they give this place a try. over the phone, very simple. the lady who answered the phone was very friendly and helpful by talking about a few. the food was ready after about 40 minutes, was quite busy in the restaurant when they pick up the food. eating was well packed and traveled well back to home. everything was well cooked and the Sushi/Sashimi/Nigiri was all fresh and well prepared. if they enjoy this kitchen, I would highly recommend this place. will definitely order or even visit personally!"

"Lovely family run Japanese small restaurant, very homely vibe. Been a couple of times in the past couple of months, and both times, food was great. Chicken katsu curry was lovely. I tried my fellow diners' food and can say it was all delicious. The food was also very satisfying for one of the slightly fussy vegetarian amongst us. It's a small place, so expect a bit of wait if they are busy with takeout orders. The lady at the front of the house is very attentive despite how busy she gets. "I visited with my wife and two kids during a visit to London over the summer holidays. Food was great, but our experience was ruined by the aggressive and confrontational manager. The service was ok, but certainly not exceptional; the staff were not engaging, did...not smile or do anything to make us feel particularly welcome. When the bill arrived there was a quite large service charge added, which seemed (to me anyway) too large for a quick visit with a small group (2 adults 2 children) and minimal levels of service. I queried with the member of staff if the service charge was mandatory, or if I was free to choose my own tip. This question seemed to provoke a strong reaction from the manager who came straight over to my table to ask why I was not happy to pay the full service charge. I explained that while the service was ok, it was not exceptional and that I would like to be free to choose my own level of service charge, which I would leave as cash. So I paid the bill, without the service charge. He was clearly not happy with this and made my family and I feel quite uncomfortable in front of the other customers. Following this, I decided that I was not happy to leave any tip at all, so we left the restaurant. Seeing that did not leave any cash on the table the manager then chased us out onto the street, shouting at us as we went creating quite a scene. He demanded to know in quite an agressive way why I did not pay the full service charge. Despite my best efforts to speak calmly to him, he continued to shout and be agressive, leaving my wife and young children quite shaken. All in all a quite unpleasant encounter, which was a shame since the food itself was really good. Now, I am not at all against leaving a tip when one is earned and deserved, and I fully understand mandatory service charges for large groups and complicated bookings. But when I question a large charge added to the bill for a quick visit with minimal levels of service, I don't expect to be confronted in such an agressive and uncomfortable way. Will not be returning in a hurry."

"The service at this restaurant was excellent, and the food was also excellent once it arrived. However, the reason for writing this review is because the restaurant was in disarray. Upon entering, there was a broken iPad next to the takeaway section, which was not a good first impression. We were seated next to what appeared to be a dirty bar section, but it turned out to be a staff area. Cutlery and bowls were stored there, which seemed unnecessary considering there was a clean area just a meter away. The conveyor belt had very little food on it, and it took 15 minutes for staff to pour tap water onto an iPad before serving other tables. The food was quite salty but tasty once it arrived, although it took longer than expected. The chef in the open kitchen spent a lot of time on his phone or eating from a takeaway box, which seemed unhygienic. The waitress had to explain a service charge, which was awkward for both staff and customers. The food was good but overpriced, and the restaurant could benefit from better maintenance and staff training, especially in the hot section. It's a shame that the restaurant is not as busy as it used to be when it first opened in the early 2010s. It seems to be quiet compared to Wagamamas, which always has a queue."

"Another trip to Obon for my pescatarian mother. The greeting and service overall was awesome. We ordered a Yamato Platter (with a couple of mods) and soft drinks (tea, mineral water). Every member of staff (FOH, kitchen) was friendly and smiley but also natural in their demeanor. We weren 't rushed, pushed anything and any specific requests were dealt with happily and with ZERO fuss. The fish was fresh-tasting, well presented and plentiful. It baffles me that this place is ONLY #4 in Kingston. When it comes to quality, value and service; this place is the best in London. Book your table! It is (quite rightly) very busy every night. I 'm a waiter, done this sh!t for 32yrs with all sorts of companies. These guys do it better than I 've ever seen. Polite, efficient, tasty, plentiful, amicable and reasonable on the wallet. I 'm so happy this place is only 10min walk from my home."

"This restaurant is located inside Lime, so it might be a bit tricky to find, but it's definitely worth the effort. Without a doubt, it serves the best poke in Salford/Manchester, featuring fresh, thick slices of fish. The karaage chicken is also excellent and reasonably priced. The portion sizes are generous, and the food not only looks great but tastes incredible too. Although the menu isn't extensive, they excel in what they do offer, making it highly recommended. We visited on a Sunday around noon, and it was ideal since there weren't many people there. I can already tell this will be my go-to place whenever I crave sushi!"

"Awful, AWFUL experience. Quite frankly traumatising. No exaggeration, honestly. (Reposting my partners' review so that more people can be warned Do. Not. Go. To. This. Restaurant. My parents booked myself and my partner a meal here on groupon for my birthday and they honestly could...not be more hostile towards us. I went in smiling, we had trouble getting up the QR code but blatantly had the email confirmation booking and they just said “It’s not our problem. No QR code or get out our restaurant right now.” What is the point in advertising your restaurant on groupon if you’re going to treat the people who use it like dirt on the bottom on your shoe? I’m very capable of affording the dishes at full price but it was a present and therefore we were redeeming the voucher, and had called a few times in advance explaining that it was a birthday meal and so expect a certain level of human courtesy but wow…..they took every opportunity to be as rude and as horrible as possible every step of the way. In addition, when we called to ask if we could change our booking to 20 minutes later they said very rudely that they were fully booked, although when we arrived there was absolutely nobody in the restaurant eating. The place was completely empty… what is the need to lie like that? The disrespect is beyond belief. I’ve never felt so degraded in my life by people who are paid to offer ‘customer service’. I’m Japanese and can confirm that none of the staff are Japanese and the food looked basic at best. They treated us as if we were asking to eat for free….Ruined my 25th birthday. The worst vibe from a restaurant imaginable. I wouldn’t go near this place with a barge pole. Avoid it like the plague. £55 down the drain non-refundable for no food, awful service, and overall a completely unacceptable experience. DO NOT GO HERE."
