"This tiny restaurant in an Oxford backstreet serves the best Japanese food I’ve ever eaten anywhere. It’s a family setup and you are likely to be seated by the owner, then served food by his son that’s fresh off the pan wielded by his wife : Opening hours vary on different days of the week and one night a week is sushi night so no hot food. No reservations are taken so get there early or you’ll be queuing by the door – this isn’t the place for a long leisurely meal but perfect for lunch in town. Food is gorgeous, my favourites are the pork teriyaki and their eponymous edamame, which is much, much better than you’ll get from any of the Japanese chains like Itsu, Wasabi or Wagamama. They also serve hot saki and cold Calpis (if you know your Calpis from your Calpico then you’re a real Japanese food aficionado! ."

The temaki set was average to be honestIt was good for a light dinner, otherwise I was not very impressed with the food quality.

Very tiny restaurant, you have to share a table with strangers but that's totally fine with me. I've previously been before, so I'm quite aware of their View menu

The best hidden gem in oxford. Edamame serve family style japanese food to the lucky few who can find it and get a table . Lovely staff. Good place to go when the fridge is empty : They're only open 5 to 8 so be there early.

This place is really popular with locals. They don’t accept bookings so you will need to queue. Worth the wait. Really tasty and authentic food. Great service, very friendly. And the prices are good too. I’d highly recommend.

There was a sign at the entrance stating that the restaurant only accepted cash for lunch. Unfortunately, we had already traveled across town and didn't have cash on us, so we had to dine elsewhere. It was a disappointment, as the restaurant seemed like a charming little spot. View menu

This restaurant is the perfect spot to dine with non-vegetarian friends, as there are plenty of dishes to satisfy everyone. Vegetarian options are also available upon request. The miso soup is exceptional. It's best to arrive early or be prepared to wait for a table, as sharing tables is common due to high demand. They now accept card payments, making the checkout process convenient.

to eat home. To be honest, I was very disappointed after my first visit. read reviews online and see the long line patiently waiting patrons built up very high expectations. vegetarian dishes are usually very bland, which is very disappointing. had much better japaner in many different restaurants in and out japan. After said it is one of the very few (decent) Japanese restaurants in oxford, and the service is great, so I go back to late lunch from time to time.

"I've been going to Oxford for 3 years now and in that time to be frank struggled to find a decent go to restaurant. I can now say with delight i've found my destination. I present SPICED ROOTS a little caribbean culinary gem. The fresh perfectly cooked food is absolutely delicious and gives off that home cooked by mummy vibe and is beautifully presented. The chilli and garlic prawns had my eyes closed Mark Weins style (if you know you know) so juicy with an incredible depth of flavour, the Trini doubles not only were seasoned to perfection they left you wanting more and the Jerk chicken spring rolls were an absolute triumph. For mains we had the ackee and callaloo Jerk Tempah (vegetarian) and the Jerk chicken. Both came with rice peas, plaintain and salad. Not only were the portions huge the flavours of both dishes were just mind blowingly delicious. Then we embarked on dessert and had the beautiful spiced rum cake and a selection of 3 home made ice creams namely Coconut, Guinness and the old Caribbean favourite Rum and Raisin, all recommended by the owner. It's at this point I feel compelled to speak about the rum raisin ice cream. I've eaten this ice cream on numerous occasions at numerous locations in Jamaica over my many years and I tell you no word of a lie this was hands down the best rum and raisin ice cream I've ever tasted, it literally left us speechless. So to summarise, this place has great food, great music, great service and a wonderfully charming owner who's totally invested in serving great, incredibly tasty, authentic Caribbean food clearly prepared with love. What more could you ask for. Fair to say it was meant to be. Uncle Jay."
