"Bad service, don 't bother. I ate at Bonsai on Saturday 22nd August. I would definitely not go back. I know restaurants are busier during the festival, and you have to wait a little longer because of this, but I found the level of service here awful. The waitress even exclaimed loudly at last! when the table next to us left, as if they had been inconveniencing her by staying so long to eat. If you can 't serve a full restaurant efficiently, don 't book it up so fully. The food was nice, not exceptional-other Japanese places in Edinburgh do equally nice food but actually provide good service with it. Only go if you 're sure it will be quiet, if you have plenty of time, and...read more"

excellent restaurant. that was delicious. especially the Teriyaki chicken was excellent. service was nothing special, standard, but certainly nothing terrible. will go again.

This is woeful!!! I went when it was not busy and the service was slow and sloppy. I was unimpressed with the quality of the sushi and presentation. Never felt like this was an event and customers seemed to be an inconvenience.

that was my first experience in the bonsai bar and I must say that I will definitely go back. the man who worked there was extremely knowledgeable and explained to me all judgments. that was my first time I tried sushi. it tasted delicious and fresh. the menu was very cheap and the food was absolutely delicious. we ordered various dishes such as schweinegyoza, okonomiyaki, various sushi inc. see bass, unagi, lachs thunfisch, mixed tempura and karaage huh. all the dishes were very tasty, although some of the sushi and the karaage was a bit on the wee side. we finished the meal with ice and matcha reis pudding, which was good. it is a nice little Japanese restaurant that is a bit away from the beaten, but it is worth looking outside

bonsai bistro has two standorte in edinburgh: broughton street in the city center and richmond street in newington – I usually go to the latter when I get a decent sushi at a fair price. the restaurant in newington can find a little hard for those who are not familiar with the opposite as it is a little outside the beaten track. However, between the nicholson street and the pleasance, it is really practical for hungry punters during the festival season.

for the price they pay the food really very tasty and all employees make them relaxed and greeted! what I love most, which is different from other Japanese restaurant in edinburgh is that there is a special menu every week. also the sushi becomes smaller and is as it should be, so fit in my mouth at once. haha, I'll be back in any case! so impressed that I had to share! it was the first time I had panacotta in a Japanese restaurant, that is good for change as I always go for the ice. all in all a very nice culinary experience. here after buying a groupon deals on sushi. the place was quite busy and tables were very close together. After we waited a little longer than you would hope to be served, we ordered our sushi. the sushi was nice enough, but that was missing the atmosphere left the place down. without playing music and an almost unpleasant quiet we ate our sushi as soon as possible, waited a little too long on the bill and then left. the price was not too much of a loss due to the groupon, but I would have been disappointed to have paid the full price for this experience.
