"We almost did not go due to the mixed reviews but it was a miserable night with the rain coming down plus we like fish and seafood and our hotel was only round the corner. We are so pleased we did although the external look was not good as the rustic look as never been in with me. Inside it was different, warm with a fire going, very comfortable chairs with good sized tables and not to close together. The staff were excellent, helpful without being over attentive, it was seafood and fish heaven, I broke out with a good pork terrine (then got surprised that the amuse bouche was a fish terrine) my wife, as ever, hit the high notes with a brilliant thai marinaded fish salad and then a fusion spicy merlan. Both were outstanding as was my less off the wall merlu. Good selection of wines with the house recommendation shown in red which we followed - you can never tell whether they have too many or truly think it is great value - anyway a nice wine at reasonable cost. We thought the food and wine was very good value for the quality offered, we would not only go here again but will go to big brother next time we are in La Rochelle. A little suggestion I would like to see restaurants offering the local wines as their lower cost house wines now they have improved so much. This does not detract from an excellent restaurant."

Really overpriced restaurant with poor service and average cuisine (too much salt, ...). Weak knowledge of the wine list from the staff, thought it is also a wine bar.

We stumbled on this place which is hidden away from the more obvious bars and restaurants along the front. Lovely welcome. Food surprisingly good: surprise from the kitchen was radish tops soup. Good children's menu. Fantastic flavours in every dish.

This place is such a treat! Lovely food, amazing service, friendly staff and hidden away down a little street off the harbour in saint martin. Highly recommended, and not your average typical french menu. Beautiful food, lovingly prepared. Well worth a visit. View menu

Went to eat here late friday evening, little bit side on the main street, but good find. Interior was really pleasent and staff was friendly. Wine list here is amazing.. ifyou can´t find wine what you like then it´s your problem... Food.. glorious food.. Don´t really have the words to descripe it, but it was amazing... normally don´t go twice in same place, but if comin back to this area, this place is must to go

We stumbled across Chez Fred one day and enjoyed a superb and relaxed lunch. We ate A'la'carte and enjoyed very tasty and well prepared starter with a main course of superbly prepared Moules, accompanied with a great choice of wines. Everything was very well presented. We ate outside, and the position and location and outside view of the restaurant might put people off, but ignore this and enjoy truly wonderful food.

Just had our best fish meal of the holiday.Starters were enormous we had Carpaccio of tuna and a platter of sardines. Mains of Maigre with roast potatoes and a thyme sauce and a whole skate also with potatoes and sauce were of similar proportions. Nearly too full for dessert but we managed a pineapple and caramel creation between the 2 of us. The staff were friendly and helped in English when our poor French ran out. Good value. Highly recommended. View menu

The staff was super friendly, they even brought me new langoustines when a couple of them were not cooked (at all!), the sardines were amazing and the wine was super, but somehow the trigger fish was cooked dry on the sides and the catch of the day was undercooked. Really a shame of the fresh fish, maybe the regular cook had a day off. Must not forget: dessert was lovely! Nice place to sit outside, there is a bar nextdoor and the music could be disturbing if you prefer to eat in peace.

Searching for something to eat we got away from the crowded harbor to find by accident this place! There where only 4 tables filled, while there is place for more than 70 people! Not a good sign we thought, but we were hungry! We were kindly guided to a nice table, and received some vegetable gazpacho with the apéritive! The kids had the children chicken proposal! The patatoe-puree was exquisite. We took eggs ans cèpes as a starter and sardines, both great! Then we had Mussels mouclade and sèches (0ctopus). Again perfect! The boxes played music from Bashung al along, great as well! Perfect moment in a rainy day! They have decent wines per glas or 'pichet' what can help to have the bill a bit...
