"During a recent stay to Kirkby Lonsdale, we chose to have dinner at Plato’s. Our table was tucked in a corner, which unfortunately didn’t allow us to view the open plan kitchen. We chose the Appetizers of olives and sourdough bread instead of any Starters. This, for us, was a wise decision because the main courses are very ample portions and were sufficient for us not to even request a view of the Desserts menu. Our main courses of belly pork and the chicken were excellent quality and well presented. My wife requested to swap out the pearl barley for colcannon instead and this was done with no issues. Unfortunately our first choice of wine was not available but an adequate alternative was offered and provided. Service provided by the barman and waitress was courteous and exemplary adding to the experience. I would have no hesitation in recommending Plato’s as an excellent dining venue in Kirkby Lonsdale."

"Never been more disappointed. Booked for my dads 60th birthday having been before and enjoyed! 2 Starters came out 10 minutes before the rest, already off to a bad start. Starters were ok but nothing overly special. Time for the mains… Cumberland sausage looked cremated, 3 sirloin steaks supposed to be cooked medium rare were closer to blue. Buttermilk chicken burger had 2 tiny pieces of chicken in, some sad looking lettuce and some Mayo in a bun. Having an 18 month old with us, we went to ask where the baby changing facilities were. Only to be told the best they could provide was a changing mat to be placed on the female toilets floor. Mentioned complaints to a staff member who seemed mortified and tried her best for us but was unable to rectify any of the issues. Having planned to have deserts, we changed our minds and just paid and left. To top it off, the following morning the 18 month old of our party is vomiting following his meal of the kids fish and chips. All in all, a very disappointing experience for what was supposed to be a lovely milestone birthday celebration. Will not ever be returning."

"Absolutely lovely little restaurant. Five stars from us staff couldn’t be more friendly, service was spot on and the food was stunning. Recommend the beef skirt with black garlic ketchup and the prawns will definitely paying you another visit"

"I met up with a friend at The Highwayman and it turned out to be a great choice. Despite being busy, the restaurant had a spacious and cozy atmosphere. We tried the shoulder of lamb, chicken coq au vin, and Appleby Cheshire cheese pies for our mains, all of which were delicious. We even had room for desserts, which included pavlova, hot waffle, and sticky toffee pudding, all of which were excellent. The service for the most part was great, although there was one staff member behind the bar (who seemed to be in charge) that lacked the professionalism of the others. Overall, we would still consider returning to The Highwayman."
