"Good ambience, staff welcoming, attentive, menu was interesting, I chose the wrong starter, it was arranged on a big square glass plate 2 of pickle! Beetroot soggy crisps, one pickled scalop cut into thin slices, it looked pretty, it was like eating a small pile of pickle, the most expensive starter on the menu, very pretentious, in my opinion it should be dropped from the menu. We we there with friends, their starters were delicious, all our main courses were delicious, I had tandoori lamb, which was succulent perfect. I told the waitress but she was disinterested, I can't imagine she told the chef."

Great food and phenomenal service makes this restaurant the best Durham has to offer (in my opinion). Will most certainly return again.

Beautifully presented, tasty food. Nicely decorated restaurant. Slightly more expensive than usual bar meals but very enjoyable. Afternoon tea vouchers available on Groupon. Try it, you won’t be disappointed.

We visited as 4 persons and ordered a variety of starters like ox cheek and prawns followed by mains of pork duo, duck, fish and chicken. Washed down with 2 bottles of Ondes Sauvignon Blanc at a fair £146, reasonable and will revisit but not fantastic

Surprised by the quality of food in the bar in the motel-type accommodation on the outskirts of Durham. Duck and steak were both cooked perfectly and served with tasty sides. Not cheap, but well worth it. Staying at the Honest Lawyer earned us a 15% discount on food and drink in Baileys

Went for dinner with my wife and two children whilst staying at the hotel. Food on the whole was good; decent mackerel starter, nicely flavoured pork wellington main (although the pork was over) and enjoyed most of the dessert sharing plate. Service was OK. Overall, it was an enjoyable meal.

Excellent. Hotel well placed for visiting Durham. Rooms a good size and very clean . Water in the bathroom is Hot and loads of it. Breakfast is excellent -large choice and the best poached eggs I’ve had in years. Food in the restaurant is fabulous and the staff are lovely -make you feel very very welcome and cared for.

Great food is hard to find I think in Durham so we booked Baileys Restaurant at the honest lawyer again for my dad's birthday and we were not disappointed. I don't need to describe the food and the presentation it's all on the photos why not go and try it for yourself for great food and quality moments. Afternoon teas, bar menus, theme nights and al a carte menus available so there is food something for everybody and value for money.

"Started off really well and went over to the counter and ordered a crepe with banana and Nutella and specifically stated no strawberries I also asked for a San Pelegríno still water as this was on the menu also. I was the first person to order and the last to eat in the end. I got brought my water over which was a cheaper brand water that I just paid £2 for what would I have liked to have seen ? We’ll when I asked for san pelligrino still water to be told that they don’t have that in. Finally my crepe comes and I take a bite and realise that it’s got strawberries in all the way through which I’m allergic too. One of my family members takes it back and says that I asked for banana not strawberry there’s a reason why I can’t eat it and didn’t want it on my crepe. Then 5 minutes later another crepe comes out that was my bitten crepe that someone had opened up and picked the strawberries out and put banana in. Disgusting absolutely … not sure if this was a mistake or just being stingy either way it’s not on. It then again gets returned because there is no way I am eating that and it gets explained once again there is a reason I can’t eat strawberries to which then one of the owners comes over to serve the correct crepe and apologise . I really hope a lesson was learnt today because cross contamination is not a joke. Please be careful when eating there. I didn’t get offered a refund but then again they were willing to serve me a bitten crepe again so it didn’t surprise me that much."
