"We arrived early for our table and were asked to take a seat in the carriage. This is excellent for those looking for a more intimate experience as the tables only seat two, being out of the main dining room aslo means there was very little noise. We were apprehensive about the service having read other reviews but we can't fault that service we received. Our starters came out quickly after we ordered and there was very little wait before our mains arrived. The food was absolutely excellent and we will definitely be returning."

We enjoyed our family get together and enjoyed the food. The only thing I would say was the service could have been a bit friendlier.

Very pleased. With meal and service. Only one small thing on the downside Chardonnay not available by the glass and only small glasses of Savignon

Lovely food, unusual dishes, great variety along with traditional dishes. Decor in the train area is cosy atmospheric. Service was rather slow there was a lot of noise from the bar area.

Food and setting were lovely. Good experience. The only downside was the staff seemed a bit harrassed and everything felt rushed. If they addressed that then the experience would have been exceptional.

Restaurant was cold. Buffet supposed to start at 12.30; table was booked for 13.00. No food appeared until 13.30. Cold plates for hot food, little choice in the buffet. Cocktail bar, which was advertised, was not open and no cocktails were available. A disappointing experience which we would not repeat.

The food was great but the service was poor. Waters not attentive enough and bill was worked out at the table with a calculator and one total. No offer of coffee or sweet jest asked if we wanted the bill after our mains were cleared. Not organised enough and not enough staff. not sure what the brand is. Is it fine dining in a beautiful venue or 3 pints 2 poppadums and a curry and home? Don’t get me wrong the food was very good, fresh and tasty, managing the tables needs work.

Food is delicious but service is chaotic. Our booking had not been received by the restaurant so we had a 15 minute wait until a table became available which at 7.15pm was not too long but as the evening went on people were having to wait over an hour for their booked tables!!! There did not seem to be anyone in overall charge and too few staff to wait on clear tables. This said the food is truly delicious so we will go back but maybe midweek, hopefully this is just teething problems and they will get their act together.

"We were pleased to get a last minute booking for lunch on a Saturday and on arrival were happy with their covid measures. A nice bright restuarant and we had a lovely view but that was luck as only 1 great window.Went for the lunch menu which is good value but noted for the a la carte still only 3 mains and a special which felt a little limiting perhaps just a consequence o the pandemic.Drinks arrived promptly with some bread which was a little dry.Staters we had a ham hock terrine (came with a pickled onion despite me saying did not want onions with main and not being listed) however it was pleasant and enjoyed the prune giving sweetness egg yolk dots did not offer much however. Hubby had gravalax with beetroot which was pleasant enough. For mains hubby had sea bass which was perfectly cooked but my rolled pork shoulder was a little disappointing (this time served with a charred spring onion despite the no onion request). It was a bit chewy and not enough of the fat either cooked off or removed. The polenta lacked the advertised parmesan flavour but was very crispy and the confit carrot tasty.Desserts we had the rice pudding which was yummy with cinnamon and apple but whilst the banana cake was tasty and moist it was fridge cold when warm would have been so much better. The chocolate sorbet served on the side was nice enough but not as expected as it was light suggesting perhaps a milk or drinking chocolate when I expected something darker anyway for those who remember tasted a bit like a mini milk lolly!Fudge with coffee seemed wrong in Scotalnd we prefer tablet but there you go. Last gripe was £4.20 for a double espresso seemed steep compared to other charges.Overall it was ok but little tweaks could make significant difference. Now one thing they can do nothing about but worth knowing and please take care is how uneven the steps were. We were lucky it was a dry day and I'm only 48 but they really felt worrying."
