"However, we were pleasantly surprised by some flavorful amuse-bouches as we perused the brief yet enticing menu and chose dishes like rognons sauce diable, lamb, grouse, and Dover sole. The kidneys were well-prepared and the sauce had a nice kick, but the grouse had already been deconstructed and was notably inferior to one I had recently enjoyed at the Boot, a nearby pub in Houghton. Interestingly, Clos du Marquis didn’t source its grouse from Robinson's, the renowned local butcher, citing cost concerns, while the grouse at the Boot was indeed from Robinson's. Despite the Boot charging £21.50 for theirs, Clos du Marquis priced theirs at £26. The lamb was disappointing as well, served in gravy-laden slices that reminded my French dining companion of a school lunch. As for the Dover sole, while it was large and well-cooked, it was evident that it had been frozen, and it cost £27. One of the dishes we looked forward to most was the crepes Suzette, but these too were underwhelming—prepared not at the table as they should be, and instead thick and chewy rather than light and slightly crispy around the edges, although the sauce was decent. All in all, it was a disappointing dining experience, especially considering the not insignificant total of £144 for three meals."

Brilliant! The owners always go above and beyond and the food is excellent. It was so good we recently hired it out for a birthday party. The owners, staff and venue were perfect. Not over the top, not too much. Just right. A great balance of lovely food and drink open reception area to mingle and talk and round table setup for the main meal. Will 100% recommend and go back.

This was where I took my wife on our first date and have been back every year since (including to propose). The menu is small and excellently prepared. The dishes change frequently but are always authentic French. Garth looks after you expertly and knows what you desire often before you do! Outstanding food doesn't come cheap but Clos du Marquis is always value for money. I cannot recommend it enough. View menu

We had a most enjoyable lunch at the Clos du Marquis Restaurant this afternoon. It’s the first time we have dined here but will definitely not be the last. The food, wine and service from Garth and his wonderful wife were second to none. We are very fortunate to have dined in many top restaurants at more than double the price, but the quality and overall experience of the Clos du Marquis is easily as good. Thank you Garth, will be back on a regular basis…

Great atmosphere, service and food. Good value too. Thank you very much. Would also like to mention that they had a great menu, including the days specials. They accommodated our two Vegan guests no problem and they were very complimentary about their choices. The cheese selection was excellent. The coffee and Chocolate to finish the evening were more than just the end of the evening being remarkable in their own right. The chocolate in particular being very rich in Coco with some brandy outstanding!

We had a meal here at the weekend. OMG it was so nice to go out for a meal and get treated like a customer and not just another number. They only have 6 or 7 tables and so the diners are the centre of attention from start to finish. It was a pleasure to have aperitifs and wines served correctly and in the right glassware. They serve fish with a fish knife, I can't remember when I was last served fish with a fish knife. The menu has a good choice of dishes, everything we ordered was delicious and looked beautiful prepared and presented. Garth is a great host and makes you feel very welcome. We will definitely be going back again soon. View menu

How to start, you are greeted by Garth, the owner, he is married to a beautiful lady who happens to be a French chef. I will travel for 2 hours to eat lunch or dinner at this restaurant, from the selection of their ingredients, to the perfect cooking to the beautiful plate, your tummy and your soul is filled with gorgeous food, it is relaxed and on your second visit you feel like family, Garth is charming and enjoys discussing his love of food and ingredients with you, he has an amazing cellar and knowledge of wine, it is rare when you can trust the owner to select your wine, but we always do and are served delicious wine at a reasonable price, I have eaten at some of the best restaurants in...

I've passed by this restaurant countless times, but it was only recently that I decided to make a reservation. We were in search of something a notch above the typical gastro-pub fare, and this place exceeded our expectations. It's a small, intimate, and cozy venue with seating for about 30 to 40 guests. The menu features authentic French dishes crafted with the finest seasonal British ingredients. On Tuesdays and Wednesdays, there’s a special fixed menu that adds to the already tough decision-making. On our first visit, we enjoyed the foie gras (which was sublime), followed by a rich cassoulet and a delightful selection of cheeses. Everything was impeccable, and I would gladly order it all...

"Havng visited my son and daughter-in-law in Andover recently he booked The Boot as his choice of restaurant to celebrate his birthday. We were greeted by a lovely barman who saw to our drinks and very quickly we were shown to our table as the...reception for bookings and diners is adjacent to the bar. Furbished well and up-to-date with decor and seating that is a mishmash of different tables and chairs, which seams to be the in thing. We were given a well polished oval table very near a back exit door which to where it led i have no idea as we dined in the evening and it was dark. As a party of six this table allowed plenty of elbow room in which to comfortably eat. The shape of the table ideal to be able to converse with everyone which is always nice. The waitress was prompt with menus which are truly extensive with the addition to specials on boards mounted on the walls for everyone to see easily wherever you may be seated (more than one board). Needless to say we all took a time to choose. We all had starters, deep fried brie, soup, prawn cocktail and sissled king prawns in garlic with choritzo X All served more or less together which allowed us all to start at the same time. Each and every dish well presented, generous and enjoyed by all. For main dishes we had, belly pork with crackling, texas steak, lamb shank x pasta, and the most enourmous mixed grill i have ever seen in my life. Unfortunately my son would not allow me to photograph it, had to be seen to be believed. Again good presentation arriving in stages this time but with very little time to wait. We were asked if all was ok a short time after starting which i actually like, i feel this is a nice personal touch rather than here is your food i am off now Although they had a wonderful selection of desserts we honestly could not manage another mouthful, you know when you are sensibly full. I had a french coffee and my husband an ordinary coffe rather than more alcohol!!!! The reason for my title is that two table away from us Craig Revel Horwood was dining with what appeared to be a partner and what we thought we heard was his Mother and another guest for her birthday. Although a celebrity i can honestly say every diner that evening was treated exactly the same apart from the Chef coming to the table for a chat. Can live with that and the darlings heard more than once obviously. On paying at the desk on exit we meet the lady owner and her great loving puppy dog, to whom was only allowed out after talking to her, The Boot was more or less empty when we left. So if you like big dogs, be sure to cuddle this big softie he is so adorable. If in Andover and you do not want to be let down by going somewhere to dine i so highly recommend this characterful place to eat and drink. All in all a fantastic experience. This Landlady has so got it right, long may she continue."
