"My husband and I stopped off for a cup of tea and some cake on a Friday afternoon. The place was empty on arrival but two more tables were filled before we left. The cakes really didn't look appetising, but we ordered one raspberry and one blueberry frangipan. No accompaniments offered (cream or ice cream). The cakes were OK but very dry. We had a cup of tea which was quite nice, but the fact that the crockery and teaspoon were all tea stained and looked dirty was really off putting. In fact, the whole place really didn't seem very clean...the cake cabinet, crumbs on the floor under tables, the serving tray used by the staff! We were charged £12.60, despite the banners outside saying a hot drink and cake was £5 each!! This may have been a genuine error, but unfortunately we didn't question it at the time. We were really disappointed by the experience. I feel that this could be lovely cafe but definitely could use a little TLC, and attention to detail. Nice tablecloths, decorations and a clean flooring would make it feel more warm and welcoming."

Lovely lunch here yesterday. Generous potions and gluten free options, reasonable price. Good, quick service by lovely friendly young lady.

The young lady that served us (Rose) was very professional and polite and she was always smiling and happy to Help! We have always enjoyed Cross view and it’s due to staff like this young lady.

We all enjoyed our visit to Cross View tea rooms. The service was friendly and the food really tasty and reasonably priced. I had the Richmond Rarebit which was great, lots of black putting on top and the cheesey sauce tasted excellent. Planning to return.

Actually not a bad cup of tea and nice to receive some hot water to top up the teapot. Let down by stained cups and saucers, remnants of cake on the floor and the carpet in need of a clean. I'm guessing you are dog friendly? No hounds present, but I assume the smell of dog isn't the food?

Place was filthy had to ask them to clean table as sticky waitress not interested, tea pot arrived looked as if hadn't seen a dishwasher, milk jug was sent back as filthy. Cutlery was dirty had to wipe them with anti bac myself. Food was OK. Whole place could do with a full deep clean. Won't be returning

Tried in vain to get a cup of tea and a bit of cake in Richmond but this place had free tables. Soon became apparent why that was. Lady was rude and forgot more than she remembered. Food was average when it did arrive. Nice spot in the centre of Richmond but the food and service does not match their enviable position.

We were late getting into Richmond were looking for breakfast, so tried here … was advised that they finished breakfast at 1100, however the lady said “we’ll do one for you, no bother “ … had a superb full English within 15 mins a touch of banter with the lady I didn’t get her name) and a pot of locally blended tea, it was superb. All in all an excellent experience, so good I left a fiver tip, now that shows that it must have been good …

We visited this cafe/restaurant with our friends from Australia. It has prime spot on the Market Place, is dog friendly and it had choice of cakes on the display. We chose pot of tea £2.30), cappuccino £2.80), Blackforest cake £4) which was a bit sweeter than I like, treacle tart £3.50) Yorkshire Rarebit £8.95) and Richmond Rarebit £8.95). Our friends had 2x Hot chocolate £6), soup £5.95) and toasted tea cakes £2.95). Everything was tasty but I think the prices for both toasts Rarebits) and soup are a bit higher than I would expect.

This looked like a nice traditional tea room in a good setting. Unfortunately when we went in the waitress demonstrated a unique lack of interest and customer orientation. There was four of us, a number that clearly was too much trouble for us. The place was nearly empty, but we were told there was no room at the table we chose. So we picked another table to be again told there was insufficient room. To be clear, there was plenty of room, but we now understood why the place was empty the waitress just couldn't be bothered. We went elsewhere finding a busy tea room where we were made very welcome!

"We arrived frazzled because we drove around the grounds in the dark not knowing where to go. The signage inside the grounds is no help at all. Allow time for this if you haven't been before. Fortunately we had because we wanted a pre dinner drink in the bar before we ate. Even when we did arrive we weren't sure if we had arrived at the back entrance because we stood for ages with no welcome or acknowledgement. A very disappointing start to our evening. When someone did come they didn't take our coats. We went through to the snug for a drink. They gave us menus and went away. Later came back for our order. We got our drinks and ordered our food. Then very quickly afterwards we were asked to go through to the restaurant. We had only had a couple of sips of our drinks and it was still prior to the time we had actually booked our table for (7.30pm). We felt rushed. The food came and was fabulous. I had the beetroot starter which had beautifully cooked beetroots and some pickles. It also had a grain through it. I couldn't remember what the grain was so asked a member of staff. She didn't know so went away to ask and came back saying it was probably buckwheat....probably! My main was pork belly with parsnip and an apple reduction. The pork could have been cooked a little longer. I think belly needs to be very well cooked until really soft. The top skin was impossible to cut through as it was not crisp, I couldn't eat it. A steak knife would have helped. Having said that it was still a good dish which could have been excellent. We had sides of mashed potato and greens with pickles both superb. The presentation of both dishes was innovative and inviting. Portion size was good too not tiny portions of fiddled with food which I much prefer. The service was not as polished as the food. There was no obvious manager and we had different servers which is never quite as good as one for the entire meal. The servers were scruffy not appropriate for such a lovely building. Overall it was OK but could have been superb with more attention to some details. Service: 2 Location: 3"
