"My partner and I came here for an evening meal when staying at the Baron at Bucknell. My partner called up first to book a table having found good reviews online. The lady on the phone was extremely helpful and provided directions perfectly as she explained the sat nav may take you a longer route. We followe her directions and got there within about 10 minutes. We were greeted as soon as we entered by customers waiting by the door and then the staff. Everyone was polite which was really welcoming as we were out of town. The decor is like an old style traditional pub and it had a really good feel about it. We initially ordered the T bone steak but they didn't have any so opted for our usual sirloin which was also recommended by the staff and we were not disappointed! Big being very big steak lovers we've been to many steakhouse's around the country and have to say this was possibly the best steak we've ever had. The garlic butter complimented it very well and we were not left disappointed that the T bone wasn't available! I highly recommend coming here if you are anywhere nearby."

Sunday carvery. Visited with my brother and family, up from Brighton on holiday. All of us thought it was a awesome meal. Creamy leeks! How were they so good? Thanks for a lovely meal. View menu

Just had the best Sunday carvery dinner ever. The beef was to die for and there was a great choice of veg. We went towards the end of the serving and it was all still hot and lovely. Proper roast potatoes too. Can’t rate it enough. If you’re in the area, this is the best Sunday dinner for miles around.

After having the great privilege of a pre-opening meal with dado and lydia, I can only say that it was fantastic in taste, presentation, quality and society. that was the best steak I ever had, and those who know me know of my capacity for good eating! from bar meals and pub lunches to fabulous and imaginative restaurant innovations this will be a great place to eat. I suggest they book now!

After a long walk from hopton to bucknell. We called in to rest our legs. We was greeted by Steve the landlord who was very friendly and welcoming. After one to many drinks we realised we had missed the one of few trains running back to Hopton. Steve kindly offered to run us back which was very much appreciated otherwise we would of been stuck. We will pop in again when we’re next in the area to say hello. Happy birthday again for yesterday. View menu

I've eaten with my mom and my friend here today. what a wonderful experience! we went with the 2 curses for £10 menu and everything was absolutely delicious and well presented. service was really friendly and they were incredibly courteous for me I was on a mission to lose weight so andy kindly did me a starter birne and blue cheese salad to main course size, then made me an obstsalat so that I could have 'pud' together with all the others! honestly could not ask for a better experience. we will be back without a shadow of doubt (we really want to try the dinner next! and will recommend dado to our friends and neighbours! many thanks to an andy, lydia and amy:

we had the honor to be lydia and andy's first bistro customers. the restaurant is beautiful and welcoming and eating is to die. my man had the duck crumb starter who was excellent, I had a larger version than my main course every day, I had goat cheese tartain that was beautiful. we had both filet steak with whisky jus for main....now usual. steve ends with half my flesh because I had enough, but there was no possibility that he had something of it! Sweet was a mandel and amorreto cheesecake that was orgasm. eating is so cheap that they have to go there and eat, we will be back very soon. a lot of luck youngs eating us amazing and we are sure that they are a great success love mary and steve...

"Beautifull hotel, I guess one can call it trendy , but I just don 't understand how they can justify the price £130/night and that most of the time will go to £160 as they run out of entry level ones. So I guess the answer is there because people pay for it! But let 's just make some relevant comparisons Birmingham Grand literally in the heart of the city, brand new, 5* hotel, with all recently decorated rooms to the highest standard is £135 15 for breakfast. Needless to say rooms are air conditioned, fully equipped and genuinelly very posh. Hotel has lifts, has porters and the service is top notch. The Lion is barelly 4* just for trendiness alone, but the actual quality of furnishing is closer to 3*, has no lift and you will be lugging your bags up and down mutiple flights of stairs (and I mean multiple like 8 going up and down) trought narrow corridors to mediocre room (nothing wrong with it just mediocre) which isn 't even air conditioned. Sorry, I just don 't get it. That said restaurant is good fully fine dining if you are into it. Althought in my oppinion it doesn 't fit into the rest of the hotel. So it is ~3.5* hotel which is very youghtfull and trendy and then you get 5* fine dining with very tiny portions for the dinner (which is not criticism of restaurant, it is very good on it 's own). In conclussion I just don 't get what niche this hotel is filling, who stays there and why. The price for the rooms should be £75 95 tops. Shreesbury is not exactly prime tourists destination either (at least shouldn 't). But it seems it is working out for them, I just would not recommend it, I would not stay in it again and it is definatelly not worth the price. Neither in isolation, nor in comparison."

"Open since 1970 and located on Mardol, one of Shrewsbury’s oldest streets @thecurryhouseshrewsbury serves locally sourced ingredients married with traditional spices and chillies from the Indian subcontinent, a match made in heaven. 5 5 Recommended Price No better way to kick off proceedings but with popadoms, chutneys and fresh onion salad. On to appetisers and there are so many tempting dishes to choose with many of these exclusive to the curry house. Our first time trying Pani Puri. A sweet and spicy hot street food snack filled with chickpeas and tamarind sat on a bed of crunchy, nutty Bombay mix. With a building but pleasant heat, definitely something everyone should try. The quality and freshness of the seafood was exceptional. Spicy king prawns were huge and cooked to perfection. Charred on the outside for flavour but juicy and meaty. Trio of King scallops were beautifully tender and of a good size with sweetness from the tamarind liquor. Lamb rogan Josh tender lamb shoulder in a medium hot ginger tomato and onion sauce. A strong take on a traditional favourite of ours. Fresh from the Tandoor a generous mix of marinaded chicken, lamb, king prawns and a chargrilled lamb chop. The Tandoori deluxe massalla sauce was the perfect blend of sweetness melting into a subtle heat which brought the dish together perfectly. The curry house takes traditional dishes and flavours from the Indian subcontinent and elevates them to a level beyond expectations. Thank you for our invite to share the exciting menu created with passion and creativity. "Fantastic range of small dishes and meals for lunch and dinner. The menu ranges from scandi to oriental, so something for everyone. The menu is clearly marked with allergens, including what meals can be adapted. The chicken is halal and vegan and vegetarian options are plentiful. The cocktail and mocktail menu is great and they do one of the best espresso martinis in Shrewsbury. The decor is modern and comfortable and there is plenty of space. As a wheelchair user, I can get into the ground floor and to a table. The outside seats are up a small step, but the whole front of the building is a retractable wall of windows, so I can still get the feeling of eating outside in good weather. The service is friendly and knowledgeable about allergies, the menu and the wine list. The staff are helpful and unobtrusive. The only difficulty for me (hence the 4 star review) is that the accessible bathroom is next door, in their sister bar, Libertine. Unfortunately, libertine isn't open the same hours as HotRS, so I can only use it at certain times. The ladies does have a lock on the door, so staff have cleared the ladies toilets, which allowed me to take my chair in and lock the door. I had to walk a couple of steps to get into a stall but my chair was safely with me. Of course, there is also no alarm cord, but they stood outside the door so would have heard if I shouted for help."
