"I am scratching my head as to why this place is so high up on the ratings.....our experience was "terrible". The first night in Saint Pol du Leon, we saw this was full of people, so naturally we took this as a good sign, and this was to be confirmed by our landlord at the B&B who booked us a table the following evening ! We sat outside, after all it was a pleasant evening. I ordered the mussels (needs to be done when in France) - and all I got was a pitiful excuse for what passed as mussels, they were so small, I was really shocked ! My wife ordered the Scallops, and also got just x4 little excuses, my daughter ordered the steak and could only eat half as the rest was just fat and sinew.....it was just awful. We complained, but to the supposed owner everything was OK ! My wife paid, no gesture was made to reduce the bill for the rubbish we were served, and then she noticed all other tables had bread !! She asked "do you have to pay for bread ?" the reply "no it comes free to the table...." There was no point in pointing out that we never even got any, as I wouldn't have wanted it anyway, if the main meal was anything to go by.....truly our worst experience not just in France - but ANYWHERE."

This little tucked away restaurant is a hidden gem. Useing local produce the food is cooked with passion with an aim to please the customer. The attentive and friendly staff were welcoming and keen to make the evening enjoyable. I would recommend this to anyone.

We arrived as five adults with no reservation, and as another large party arrived. There was no room inside, but it was a warm evening and we sat outside. To complicate matters we had a vegetarian and a vegan in the party. There was no vegan option but the waitress and owner were able to understand the issue and came up with a starter and main course that satisfied all. the food was good and tasty and the staff were superb, relaxed and attentive. I would highly recommend the restaurant for a family visit. View menu

Over the past ten days holidays we have eaten in various restaurants in the area. Each time we have had the plate de jour and although the food is traditionally simple it has always been well cooked and full of flavour. However, this was definitely not the case at this restaurant. The pork main course was tough, fatty and difficult to cut even with a serrated knife! We left the meat on our plates. When we mentioned this to the waitress she in turn told her manager to which there was total indifference. We paid and left never to return.please don't make the same mistake as us in believing that this is a good restaurant. ...it isn't !

With some hours to spare before our sailing from the nearby port of Roscoff to Cork, we spent a few hours in the pretty little town of Saint-Pol-de-Leon which is nearby. While there we dropped in to Dans la Grand for lunch. What a lovely place to eat. The place was bright, airy with a pleasant feel to it. The greeting, service and food were top notch. As we left, we complimented the proprietor on the ambience, quality of food etc. Keen not to accept all the credit for himself, he pointed to the kitchen telling us that his good wife does all of the cooking. Well done to all, keep it up. Next year, we hope to be sustained there again.

Make no mistake, this is a very, very good restaurant. My wife and I have had the good fortune to dine at the top three Michelin starred restaurants in England, so we know good food. The set evening menu here was absolutely amazing value and the food was superb. We were so impressed. For the visitor, being able to choose from a selection of 16 red wines, 7 white wines, and 5 rosé wines BY THE GLASS, is unprecedented. The range of malt whiskies on offer from all around the world is astonishing too. But don't be distracted from the fact that this is a gem of a restaurant, the like of which you will be very hard pressed to equal in Britain - and certainly not at these modest prices. Superb. We came upon this unpretentious looking restaurant having been turned away from the crêperie in the alleyway above and behind (avoid at all costs) because we were 2 and all their unoccupied tables were for 4. We chose the 19€ menu and started with a most original tatin d'artichauts with pink onion ice cream (!). Amazing. Then a perfect grilled mackerel with thyme and finally a clafoutis of rhubarb with a blackberry sorbet. Charming service and a most interesting host with an eclectic selection of whisky and rum from all over the world. All the more fun for being a chance discovery. Apparently many discerning travellers head here rather than to the touristy places in Roscoff. And just up the...

High expectations after reviews on here - also virtually the only place open on a Monday evening. the place was clean and the staff welcoming. There were several French people there too. Not bad for a wet evening in October. My wife and I had a 20 euro set 3 course meal. The starter - artichoke 'tarte tatin' was nothing like a tarte tatin. More of a thin cake/pate served on artichoke leaves. My wife liked it, I didn't. I had a pork shank - hardly a premium cut so I expected it to be slow cooked in some sort of jus/gravy. It wasn't, it was tough dry and inedible. The other diners - presumably locals - were having crepes and/or salads and they looked good, and I think with the benefit of hindsi...
