"First visit since new owners in. The staff were welcoming and sat us down quick, we had booked. It’s Sunday lunch on the menu. So five ordered, one pork the rest the mix of meets. Food was at the table fairly quickly. Heat coming of the plates. But had to wait for veg, felt that was poor, a small single serving dish of about 10 carrot slices and mixed beans and peas. Had to ask for salt and pepper, spoons to serve veg, offered for condiments. Given in tiny dishes. Not enough for 5 people to have each condiment. By now we all felt our meals were cooler than would be liked. Turkey and pork nice and tender. But beef, hard to cut, hard to chew. Not a tender piece. After dinner plates left on table, no one asked if we wanted a desert, plates still there when we paid to leave. Will try again. But put veg on the plate, put salt and pepper on the table. Be more generous with condiments. I know that’s a cost implication. Clear away dirty plates ASAP."

The staff was very friendly. We arrived during a slow period and were well taken care of. We brought our small dog, who enjoyed the comfortable seating and meeting fellow locals.

Great Sunday lunch with family. Very busy and fully booked. Typical roasts, today was turkey, pork, beef or trio of meats. Couple of interesting vegetarian options too. I reserved via their Facebook Web page. Decent selection of puddings too.A good pub Sunday lunch.

We are so fortunate to have this as our local. A great choice of ales, fantastic food and a glorious terrace area on a sunny day. Highly recommend the £35 Steak Deal on a Saturday evening 2 steaks with all the trimmings plus your choice of a bottle of wine to share. Bargain! View menu

Dropped in with family for 4 meals and drinks, excellent food, service and drinks. We had Cod chips, pie and chips, Haloumi Flatbread, and the chicken Stilton sauce meals. All were superb. Great staff, would recommend this pub for a lovely meal out, food served 6-8 pm, or even lunch.

We ate at the Dog and Gun, a traditional village pub, on Sat. 12th Nov. we both had Camembert Chicken mains and Cheesecake desert — 1 x Gin/Tonic, 1 x White wine, 2 x Beers, All the food was of a high standard, perfectly cooked and presented. Service was fine. The bill was for £58:25. We both enjoyed our visit and it is highly recommended. Paul Reynolds.

My daughter and I went here last Saturday night, we both had flatbread topped with a Greek salad and sundry tomatoes, it was very tasty, it was nice to have some thing different on the menu. The staff were very friendly a lovely welcome. We went back on Sunday just for a drink this time, but I must say the Sunday lunch looked very good. I am looking forward to going again. Thank you. I stopped by this restaurant last minute to grab a meal just five minutes before they stopped taking orders, and despite our late arrival, we were warmly welcomed. The meal was fantastic and the staff were friendly, so we will definitely be returning. My husband ordered his usual gammon and, as always, requested it to be well-done. Many places tend to not fully cook it to his liking, but the Dog and Gun nailed it perfectly. This pub has always been a favorite of ours, so it was a shame that it wasn't busier for a Saturday night at 8 o'clock.

Today was our first time visiting The Dog and Gun for Sunday lunch. The pub is located in a picturesque village in Leicestershire and has a charming traditional pub ambiance. The atmosphere is great and the pub is dog-friendly. We were seated promptly and our drinks were served quickly. We ordered our meals, which were also served promptly and were excellent. The food was beautifully cooked, tasty, and some of the best we've had in a long time. We want to thank everyone involved in making our Sunday lunch a truly special occasion. Thank you, Andrea and Roger.

"I visited my daughter and son-in-law last week and on my request they had booked a table for us on black horse on Saturday night at 1 o'clock. we arrived shortly before the pm and all four of us stood in the bar where two were served. it wasn't busy. no one told us anything until the bar was clear and then one of the ladies looked at me and I said we booked a table in my name of my daughter and she saw the bookings and said oh yes, we had table assigned and pointed into another room. there was no greeting no smiling, so we met our way to the table and sat there. there were no menus on the table, so I stood up to find some and someone only made their way from the other room in the direction of our table. we ordered drinks that were in themselves a task, as they had no free or dietary limmonade, so I had to go to the end for a gin with slimline tonic. then we ordered four different meal times. I ordered a vegetarian curry in naanbrot and when it finally came, I was so disappointed because the naanbrot was burned and the curry was cold on the outside, so I asked them to take it back. the waitress asked if I wanted to order something else and I went back. my daughter then shared some of her meals with me, who were chicken pupils. they were coated in a teig that was extremely fat. the menu does not seem to come out of any meal with fresh vegetables, everything seemed to come with chips and draughts, even the Steak-Mahl came only with chips and draughts, no mushrooms, tomatoes, wobble rings or something. I wasn't impressed. for a pub that wants good reviews, I think they have lost the property. the customer service is everything and fresh vegetables is essential. I'm sorry to be the bearer worse, but we won't come back."
