"My 10yo daughter and I had a reservation for 8pm this evening, under the name Gillian Birnie. When we arrived, we were summarily ignored by two different staff members, until I told one of them I had a reservation, at which point he ungraciously sat us at a table closest to the exit, didn 't offer any welcome, and handed us menus (I had to ask for the children 's menu despite it being obvious my daughter is a child). At no point during the process of making the reservation (over the phone earlier that evening) or when we were offered menus were we asked if either of us had any allergies. My daughter has a life-threatening allergy to peanuts and some tree nuts and carries an epipen. I am frankly astonished that this was not asked, and neither could I find any allergens listed on either the main or children 's menu. When it came to ordering, again, no questions about allergies. My daughter wanted the children 's chicken katsu curry, and in the light of a lack of allergen information, I asked if it contained nuts. After a moment of confusion, our waiter asked if she was allergic to nuts, to which I responded that she was allergic to peanuts and some treenuts. He asked which ones, and I said she was allergic to most, and gave peanuts and cashews as an example. Without missing a beat, he immediately stated that 'he wouldn 't recommend ' the curry because it might have nuts. Never having come across a chicken katsu curry with nuts as an ingredient, I questioned this, and asked him to check with the chef. He disappeared momentarily to arrive back and almost gleefully declared that it did indeed contain nuts, but when I questioned which ones, he wasn 't able to answer, so again he went to ask the 'chef '. Imagine my surprise when the answer came back as peanuts and cashews, the very nuts I had provided as an example. I asked why there were no allergens listed on the menu and why we hadn 't been asked about allergies, and how (if there were nuts present in the kitchen) we could be sure of no cross-contamination with any other dishes. He stated that there were no nuts in the kitchen which was confusing, and I asked how could there be no nuts in the kitchen if the curry contained nuts, was it not freshly prepared? He said it was freshly prepared (and if this is indeed the case, it begs the question as to why it couldn 't simply be prepared without the nuts) but that there were 'protections ' in place, without specifying what those might be. Given that nobody proactively asked about allergies, that no allergens were listed on the menu, and the information we had thus far about allergens as ingredients, I decided not to risk the life of my daughter by dining in your restaurant. It is inconceivable in this age of increasingly common life-threatening food allergies that your establishment does not have a clear protocol for protecting your consumers against encountering a possible allergen, and that your staff are not better trained to deal with these situations, when someone 's life could be at stake. I am frankly astonished and hugely disappointed at the way we were treated throughout our short time in your restaurant, and hope that with this feedback you can make meaningful changes for both health and hospitality improvements which are in dire need. If you are pitching your restaurant as a fine dining experience, with prices to match, it begs the question as to why these considerations are not already in place."

The restaurant needs to up its game. The food is not 5 star, 2 star at best. The chefs have a basic menu that they cannot even get correct. Despite covid, the timing of the food, the quality of the food and the management needs...

This is yet another 'rural ' restaurant that charges 4 star prices for 2 star food and service. I waited to order drinks while three members of staff walked past without any communication. When I finally ordered, the waiter appeared to have little knowledge of the... View menu

Visited today for “sharing steak night” unfortunately was disappointed to find “sharing” meant a one steak which we could have got from Tesco for £5/£6 Sides arrived prior to mains, when main arrived we were shocked to see one steak between us both, also sides arrived ahead of mains and with no plates to eat off along with no condiments. So very very disappointed won’t be rushing back and definitely won’t be recommending anyone who is visiting unfortunately

Had dinner there on Friday, partner had the Scallops which were miniscule then the Green Thai curry which, as mentioned by others, was virtually inedible. We decided to book Sunday roast as we thought “ You can’t go far wrong with a Sunday roast”, how wrong we were. Immediately noticeable that we were given half a Yorkshire pudding each, who scrimps on Yorkshires? The seasonal vegetables were like tinned veg which had been roasted, again virtually inedible. The beef was obviously a budget cut was tough to say the least. The hotel is supposedly a five star resort who, judging be previous reviews, are very quick to point out the restaurant is independent of the actual hotel. It be therefore be...

"We visited to see the Beatrix Potter Exhibition with family who were visiting and spent a lovely hour going around the exhibition, however our nice time was rudely interrupted by the elderly lady working in the cafe with dyed black curly hair. We have one child with serious allergies, so instead of one child feeling left out and risking cross exposure, we packed safe snacks for all the kids going anywhere with allergies is an absolute nightmare, so we always do this. Most places are trained and appreciative of how hard it is to eat out with allergens and happy to make reasonable adjustments for this. All four adults ate from the cafe. When part of our order was delivered, we were told “this isn’t a picnic area, you can’t eat your own food, you wouldn’t take food in to McDonald’s” (whilst looking at the 2 year old eating her snacks) when I responded yes I actually would, we have a child with allergies, she asked if it was serious allergies to which I said yes and she scoffed and left, no apology, nothing. I must add that whether the children would be eating or not, they would still have to sit at the table and take up the same amount of space. Would the children also be prevented from sitting because they didn’t buy from the cafe? Still waiting on my food order twenty minutes later and having already finished my coffee and frustrated at the wait, I asked for a refund as we now felt hurried to leave because of how upset she was at the children eating snacks at the table without purchasing them in their cafe. I got the refund for my missing meal and we left without going to the shop or seeing the other art, it has left a bad taste in my mouth. We spent just shy of £100 in the place and to be spoken to like that was horrible. The elderly employee with dyed black hair really needs some training on customer service and manners. The way she looked at us as we left was awful, we will not be returning. This place is not welcoming of children or those with allergies I dread to think how they would react to someone who is tube fed, probably told to eat outside just avoid."
