"We arrived in Newton Stewart without any reservations on a cold, wet evening. Looking for somewhere to stay, we came across this 'hotel ' which advertised rooms but in fact no longer took in overnight guests which was disappointing. Not having eaten and being strangers in the area, we decided to eat in the bar and what a great decision that was. My steak pie was one of the best I have eaten and the desserts were just out of this world if you crave traditional puddings.....we had Spotted Dick with Custard, Sticky Toffee Pudding with Custard and my Syrup Sponge and Custard. The food really was excellent, good value and generous portion sizes. The staff were friendly and the service good. On the way to the toilets we saw into the kitchen which was spotless, always a good sign! The place itself was looking a little tired but in some way that added to its charm. We will return to try something else next time!"

This is my third visit to the town and this pub provides good quality pub food at reasonable prices, ideal for hungry walkers.

Generous portions and excellent friendly service. We had the chicken korma special and sweet and sour chicken... both decent pub grub standard. Couldn't fit in any dessert. Good range of whiskies.

The place was freezing. No music. Hardly a lightbulb in the place and cobwebs everywhere. 2 hours to wait on the main courses. Bang average food. Maybe be warmer in the summer. Avoid like the plague in the winter. View menu

Sorry this review is late but can I say we stopped off to watch the play off final( national league England) and we were made to feel so welcome by the lad behind the bar whose name I'm embarrassed to say I cant remember. I must say the locals on the day were fabulous and were fellow Poolies by the end! As far as the place itself it's a proper pub, clean ,good beer good craic and very very freindly atmosphere if ever we go back over that way it will definitely be a place to visit

The bar area where we were asked to sit was freezing . in saying that it had only just opened as it was just turned 5pm and we were the only ones there. On the night we went it was a curry night with a choice of different curries on the menu . Nothing special about the food but plenty of it I personally was a bit disappointed as in my opinion the curry sauce came from a jar from the local supermarket which was a big let down as we had haggis balls for starters and they were delicious as the batter was so light and crispy

My other half asked the bar man on Friday night, the 24th February if they were dog friendly, I did see on my google search it was but just like to check this out, the barman said well, it is ok through the day to bring a dog in but not at night as it gets too busy, at this point the bar was completely empty! On our way back along the street two hours later the bar was still completely empty! So really this place is not dog friendly! Also we spent our money further along the street in a very welcoming and definatley dog friendly bar View menu

Tried to book for 6pm but couldn't as another group was booked for this time. Settled for 5.30. When we have eaten here before we have always been in the bar, which is full of atmosphere even when not busy. This time we were shown into the dining room, which has no atmosphere at all, even though there are lots of whisky bottles on display, and even when more people came in. The menu is good....Plenty of choice, but the meal was not as good as we have experienced here, the chips being a big disappointment. The staff were very helpful and friendly, and patient with the children.

My daughter, husband and I were staying for the weekend at Conifer Lodges and came across this place as it was reasonably close by. Warm and inviting with a friendly member of staff. The menu looked delicious and I struggled to choose! I got Rabbies Ballast....,actually best meal ever! It was so delicious! I need to get the recipe! My husband got the steak pie and was going on about how delicious it was...until he tasted mine. We also loved how there was information on the history of the building and links of Rabbie Burns all around. A lovely warm, homely place that is more than a pub dinner at very affordable prices with various offers like kids eat free etc

"Visiting Port Patrick again today we thought we would try a new place to eat. We normally eat at the same place here but today with chose the Crown Hotel. When you walk into the crown you see how old it is and I must admit it looks quant but a little dated. After finding a seat and deciding what to eat I went to the bar to order food and drinks. The service from the member of staff were pleasant and welcoming. We ordered 2 cokes and 2 stake and ale in a pudding one with chips and one with baby potatoes. We were charged a few pence short of £39 and given 2 cans of coke and asked would we like a glass with them? £4.80 for 2 cans of coke) Going back to the table I sat down and within less than 5 minutes our food was there on our table. I always worry when the food is so quick as I never feel it properly prepared fresh for you and when you are paying £17 a meal you at least want something fresh-ish. WHAT REALLY ANNOYED ME was while we were eating our food people were bringing dogs into the bar past our table to talk to a guy sat next to us. Chatting away these dogs were just sat by our feet as we ate. No one seemed to care about these dogs brushing up against people eating a meal. The food The baby potatoes were ok, the pudding was a frozen one you would get from a supermarket, the veg was hard, the meat was dry and bland and the gravy tasteless. I would say this food was a preprepared meal and just placed into a microwave. I don’t like to be so blunt in my reviews as this is always someone’s business and livelihood was are talking about, but this really was that bad. The service during the meal was none existent. When the waitress came to take our plates she did not seem surprised when I complained about our food, saying only I’ll pass it on. No apologies or anything. Even with me saying the food was especially the veg was disgusting. It was like water off a ducks back. Will I eat here again NO sadly the service and the food was very poor."

"For some reason I can not reply to your answer. Sadly you are absolutely wrong in everything you have stated, I find your tactic of attacking people who give less than 5 star reviews. I am not going to try to defend myself, as I stand by everything I said. I have made an appointment to see a solicitor about your untruthful comments. I would really of liked to put a good review up, however, I would not recommend this hovel to my worst enemy. Firstly the room was so small, and tatty, extremely dated with an alarm clock, which surely has been taken from a chalet from Pontins in the 1970s, that even the amazing view could not compensate. There was dog meat/food on the carpet, and I assume ash. When I went to look for someone to let them know, there was no one about. The bathroom was not fit for purpose, one as it was a converted cupboard, and the notice in the room explaining that the steam from the shower which was cracked set off the sensitive smoke alarm, so you could not even have a shower. Then when we went for breakfast, after waiting for 40 minutes for a breakfast which was a 1 sausage, a piece of streaky bacon, uncooked tomatoes and mushrooms, haggis, b pudding and beans. When I went to complain about this on the way out, I had the pleasure of speaking to someone called Donna, who was at best obnoxious, and as unhelpful as it was someone else 's fault, I quote I don 't clean the rooms, I don 't cook the breakfast . I would rather sleep in a tent than give money to this place, please look elsewhere, unless you want to feel as though you are being ripped off. In response to your reply I thankyou for it. I do not deny that I was irate, and if she cried, I feel terrible about that but I have also left things out, like the denial of the previous evenings attempt with the same lady about the state of the room, however I stand by everything I said, As you are true to form, as it never ever seems to be your fault, if you look at the previous low reviews, it is always someone else 's fault. Oh by the way breakfast took 40 minutes, and as you were not there, maybe you can check CCTV and see that the uncooked food was left, as was the haggis, however the toast provided was superb. I applaud your defense of your staff, I truly do. Hopefully you can maybe if you get another less than favourable review, see that it is the same points over and over again, and try to address them points, just a thought. Thanks again for your reply below, and I stand by everything I said, and truly can 't be bothered dissecting your reply, one slight point, I have witnesses about the night before, so I take with a pinch of salt, your comments"

"Myself and my partner where just outside of portpatrick yesterday and wondered about somewhere to have lunch, it was about 12.30pm on a scorching hot Bank holiday Sunday. We hadn’t actually planned to go there to start with but thought why not. I saw on Facebook Connors Restaurant had just uploaded a Facebook post about stopping there for a choice of 2 lovely menus and a cheeky gin, sounded perfect! The post had went up about 15 mins before we arrived, so I assumed they must be looking to take some tables. I walked down and there where 2 tables taken outside, and 1 table inside. I asked if I could get a table for 2 outside if possible and I was told no they had been reserved and I thought okay but before I could even open my mouth again she said all tables inside where also reserved that they where fully booked. There was 1 table inside, other wise it was pretty empty. Ok no problem, we found somewhere else so no big deal, after about 2 hours spent having food and wondering around we went back to the car (parked just up from Connors restaurant) and I noticed again there was only the 1 table outside, and no one at the others. I’m maybe wrong but I felt like this was odd, the inside didn’t look like it was “fully booked” either. It actually looked a little dead compared to everywhere else. This has also happened to my friends a couple of times too they’ve went in and the place has been stone dead but got turned away because of the excuse of being fully booked. Just felt like it was not quite right. Sorry I never usually write reviews but felt like I had to get my point across on this one. We would love to dine here and hopefully will in the future."
