"My wife and I called in for a snack lunch yesterday before a theatre matinee visit but were disappointed for a variety of reasons.Firstly, the young waitress who took our order had absolutely no customer rapport and looked like she would like to be anywhere else but working in the cafe.Secondly, the tuna sandwich was poor value for money at £6.75.Thin white bread and not much filling. My wife commented how poor the Americans coffee was and in a glass cup!!!Thirdly, the entrance area to the left was cluttered with various untidy bits and pieces .This gave a bad impression. I have been to visit the cafe many times in the past.It used to be my favourite cafe in York.Sadly, not any more.On a plus point the other young waitress was very pleasant. The owners need to get their act together.Such a shame that it has gone downhill since previous visits..I do understand the problems that the pandemic caused but just a few changes would make a massive difference and bring back this cafe to its previous standards.Perhaps cafes need someone like Alex Polizzi. Now there’s a good idea for a new series The Cafe Inspector!!"

Great for a full English breakfast! The sausage, tomatoes, eggs, bacon, and half a mushroom were all very tasty. Not sure what the deal was with the egg and toast. There was an extra charge for hash browns, making the total bill come to around £13. A bit on the pricey side, but hey, it's central York after all.

Visited here on a weekday morning, was nice to see the place busy which of course makes you reassured it must be good. The ladies running the cafe/serving that day were really friendly, and the food was great! I had the full English and my partner had a sausage bacon butty. Would definitely eat here again and recommend :

On Saturday, October 1st, I went to this restaurant that was supposed to be open according to their website, but when I arrived, I found out it was closed. I'm not a local, but I do like to visit this restaurant when I'm in York. I wish they would do a better job of keeping their potential customers informed about their hours of operation. View menu

We stopped by for a quick bite during lunchtime. I ordered beef and red onion sandwiches, while my wife had a tuna and mayo toastie (they also offer main meals). The sandwiches were tasty, but the standout dish was the chunky chips - they were absolutely delicious, the best we've ever had! Tina would definitely approve. The service was fantastic, with a lovely young waitress taking care of us. I highly recommend this place!

Spacious cafe, friendly service and very good value breakfasts my coeliac husband was able to get a GF bacon and egg bap, I had standard both agreed bacon was delicious and eggs cooked perfectly. So cheap £4ish each for the baps. Coffees weren't spectacular, but fine. Looked like a nice array of cakes and snacks. Little bit of a wait, but nice surroundings and it filled up completely by 11am. Overall would recommend! Would pay double for same quality food in many other places in York.

Visited today as a group of four. Three ordered breakfast food. All ordered hot drinks. Hot drinks arrived fine with our bill showing what we had ordered. Our bill was printed at 10:27am. Still no food by 11am and given we had only ordered egg on toast, beans on toast and a cinnamon toast we thought service was slow. It was only after waitress brought food to the table behind us who came in later than us that we realised something was wrong and asked her about the food. Turns out chef didn’t have any order for our table yet it was printed on our bill. Needless to say only paid for the drinks and left. View menu

We ordered a prawn baguette, jacket potato and cheese, orange juice and a tea. It came to £17 and a bit. The prices pretty similar or cheaper than other local cafes. The food was a good portion and good quality. It was akso pretty quick coming out. My son loved it, he ate everything. The downside. The toilets are very tight. The ladies had load of chairs piled in there, so was choice of gents or the staff toilet. Also paying by cash isn't really convenient nowadays but there is a sign to let you know as you come in that it is cash only. The staff were really friendly and happy to have a chat. Will definitely visit again.

We often visited Cafe Luca for lunch when in York, particularly before the lockdowns, but have not visited much recently. Our lunchtime visit today was a great dissapointment. Will not be rushing back again soon. A changed menu with less items now available (no omelettes any more ? Waited 30 minutes from food order taken to food on the table. The Full English Breakfast was terrible cold and dry toast, burnt to black bacon and very dry and hard, fried egg overcooked, grilled tomato burnt. The main meals on the new menu are now rather expensive. Tatty paper menu sheets attached to a clipboard are not your style ! Come on Cafe Luca you used to do much better than this. Buck up your ideas, impro...
