"First time in Jaxana, but visit Santa Cruz every year or two from a city with an amazing culinary scene. I understand that context is everything and there is not a lot of choice when it come to Asian restaurnants in the region, but this place is simply not good enough. I 'd really had high expectations reading the reviews, but flavour-wise, it is just so bland and uninteresting. Between us, we had gyozas, makis, cantonese pork with rice, Indonesian nasi goreng. Whoever cooks here is technically competent (gyozas were well made and rice nicely cooked), but was is one of the blandest Asian cooking I 'd had in a long time (the only worse one was actually also in Santa Cruz, called Tagami I believe). The real disgrace was the nasi goreng, which should be bursting with flavour and spices, but it was bland, inspid rice with carrots, peas etc, which I had to improve by adding soya sauce and wasabi (just to make it more palatable). We just wanted to finish the dish as it was late and we were hungry. Makis were cut so thinly and lost any punchiness, were makis should be thick cut rounds. All the fillings were totally unidentifiable, you could have been eating aything. To add insult to injury, when the waiter asked if everyhing was OK, we said we did not enjoy the flavours of the dishes and we didn 't think they did justice at all to these glorious cuisines, he just literally shrugged his shoulders and turned around. Didn 't even say he was sorry. I don 't think I 've had such a bad combination of blandness and rudeness in a restaurant in a long time. On top of it, they claimed they only had two white wines that night due to them being closed beforehand. Of course, they did not discount anything on the bill, just as a gesture when you know customers are unhappy. We let it go, paid up and definitely will not be back. If you are in the mood for Asian, there is a new place in Santa Cruz called Kon Tiki, which, although, not perfect, is infinitely more competent and interesting."
