"A safe fine dining experience for anniversary / celebratory meals. We opted for the EUR 23 two course lunch to experience fine dining.Service was attentive - the manager offered to keep my hat. The younger waiters tried hard and are overseen by an experienced manager. The lunch menu served rather standard affairs, the food we had was completely French, as what the Michelin inspectors wrote. There is nothing in reminiscent of Japanese cuisine except with a hint of fish spice in the prawn appetizer which can be considered "Asian"...or Thai. The sugar coated plum tomato starter was a delightful surprise - the sour tomato juice and sweet coating created an interesting flavour that is not strange at all. In northern China the sugar coated apple is a traditional sweet so this is a nice twist. The mains were on the salty side. For the main I ordered octopus with tomato sauce. It is a strong flavoured dish with the addition of olives which is very salty itself. It looks and tastes like an Italian dish - not surprised by the strong Italian influence here, afterall Nice shares the same sea coast as the Italians. The other main, lamb with aubergine was also very salty in my view. Dessert we ordered a mango passionfruit flan which is nice but nothing special.Overall execution, presentation and taste is on the safe side but not a stunning wow for a Michelin recommended restaurant, prehaps the expectation was set a bit high and it will be different for dinner service.Interior is a mixture of simplistic modern Japanese with a funky, modern interpretation of Da Vinci's Last Supper. On a weekday lunch the restaurant was full with a mixture of Asian tourists and French. It is very close to the beach.A safe choice for special occasions."
