"On our second visit to this lovely restaurant, we were impressed by the pleasant calm of the dining room, the impeccable service but most of all, the quality of the food. We shared one starter (cold crab and shrimp mousse with crispy vegetables), and then tried the salmon tartare and the Iberian pork fillet as entrees. The tartare was deliciously spiced and more than ample, as was the pork fillet (two hefty slices) served on a bed of sautéed celeriac and mushrooms. Desserts were a dream--a special pistachio financier with raspberries and strawberries surrounded by fine white chocolate mousse, and a sampler of five different tastes (blueberry creme brûlée, apple and apricot crumble, chocolate and caramel mousse, raspberry coulis with vanilla ice cream) proved too irresistible. Cafe came with small truffles--not what we needed but excellent all the same. A good variety of wines by the glass at various prices were available, and we tried a Spanish white unknown to us that was wonderful and fresh. L'Apart provided great meal at a reasonable price for these times. Yes, it is a bit outside of Challans, but directly on the route to st. Gilles, where we were headed--convenient for parking and access."

This restaurant has a reputation but, the dish are more visual than to be eat. So you have a lot of taste, but so few it is a pity. It is a french tendance today, i am not in phase with.

Our meal was amazing, different than anything we'd ever eaten. Fantastic service with a smile and great english! (thanks for that!) The chef shaking hands with us at the end just made the night perfect and memorable forever. Thankyou for a wonderful experience! Highly Recommended!

Just enjoyed an excellent lunch at L'Apart. The food was first rate, from the foie gras starter to the veal and mushroom main, and a delightful strawberry confection to finish. Service was great, which helps. Not the cheapest of lunches, but worth every one of my newly devalued euros. Go on, treat yourself, I know we'll be back there View menu

Tonight was the first time we've tried this restaurant and my wife and I were delighted with the whole experience. The service was friendly and professional and despite there being two large parties in this evening we didn't feel as if we were being ignored. The choice of menu was intriguing and we opted for three courses. As a starter we both had the fois gras mini burger which sounded bizarre but was full of flavour and realy delicious. Mains were fillet of co for me and porc fillet for my wife and again mouthwatering flavour. This was rounded off by dessert which is difficult to describe but ate realy good. The choice of wines was excellent but as normal we opted for a local red from the Ma...

Three of us booked for dinner, and all had 2 courses. The set menu is quite simple - a choice of 3 starters and then 3 mains. There is also a 'comptoir' menu which looks like 'specials' but also seems to iCloud's bar snack type of food. We all had an amuse-bouche of foie gras and mascarpone topped with a rhubarb sauce - nice. Two of us had prawns on a lovely crispy cuttlefish-ink gaufre (more a waffle than a pancake). This was very tasty. The third member of our party had the house mi-cuit foie gras, and declared it excellent. For mains, I had a beautiful risotto topped with fish. My husband had Iberico ham that had been cooked in salt. Glad I didn't have this as there was too much fat. Our...

This restaurant was recommended to us by some French friends who live in the area. It's in a nondescript part of town but easy to find and plenty of parking space, we were welcomed in by a very nice team who were keen to help us in English. The menu itself is limited as other reviewers have pointed out so we all opted for just two courses. The amuse bouche was delicious and the restaurant was happy to cater for one of our party with dairy intolerance. The starters were enjoyable enough although I was a bit disappointed with mine, I appeared to have a burnt piece of gaufre however I was assured that it was black because it contained squid ink, whatever, it was it was tasteless. My main gripe was... "We were travelling through the Vendée region after purchasing seafood for the festivities. We then were looking for a decent restaurant to have lunch when we came across The Louis XIII in Shallans. Our first impression was an extremely warm welcoming as we were shown to our table. We all ordered the Earth and Sea salad , we were not disappointed and even pleasantly surprised. The salad was copious, delicious and even adventurous as a fig ice-cream was served with it which was the perfect compliment to the smoked fillet of beef, duck and king prawns butterflies. Around 12.50 for a main course. Very friendly, helpfull staff and owner making you feel instantly at home. We all loved it and will definitely return when we 're visiting the region for its seafood.
