"My coworker and I took a late meeting fromt our hotel in downtown Annecy. (Allobroges which is turning out to be pretty decent. When we finally stepped out of the hotel, there was a bit of a rain. We had always headed toward old town to find places to eat, so tonight decided to walk in a different direction . It didn 't take us long to find this place. The service is very speedy when compared with many French restaurants. We sat down around 8:30 on a Friday night, and there were tables to choose from. There is no English Menu, but there was someone there who speaks good English and was happy to translate anything on the menu. All night, we didn 't wait too long for anything. Our drinks came quickly. (A huge relief. Entree/Starter, main course/plat, and dessert all came promptly. They must get alot of tourists who might expect to get out of the restaurant faster than the typical French who allot 3 hrs to a dinner at a minimum. : All night we were helped by 3 or 4 people, so they tag team throughout the meal. Sometimes this arrangement can be disjointed and there can be lapses if no one person has responsibility, but they used this setup very effectively. The ambience is interesting. Boroque crossed with hip. Deep reds with old European paintings on the wall mixed with art deco 'ish fixtures. There is upstairs seating and it is nice. The level of noise is just right to have a conversation. Not to quiet to make you feel embarrassed to be speaking in English. Not loud to make you raise your voice to be heard. The crowd was a mix of old and young. It definitely felt like there were alot of non-locals there. So if you want something more authentic or traditional French, go somewhere else. First thing I will say is that I wish they had more than 3 Scotches on their menu. Maybe they had more at the bar, but the waiter didn 't know what they had and just brought me the menu. I ended up ordering Jack Daniels, which will always do for me. My coworker and I both ordered from the package deal set menu where you could choose any starter/entree, one of 3 main courses, and any of the desserts. A good deal at 31 Euro. We both had the salmon lox entree/starter. It was more like fresh salmon sashimi with an interesting sauce. Pretty good. I had the filet de beuf which is a decent cut of steak. Cooked decently the way French typically cook steak. Not great. I asked for medium rare, the waiter responded with medium and the steak was cooked in that manner. I would probably try something else next time. And the tirumasu I had was decent but not to die for. My coworker didn 't mention anything about his main course except to say it was 't what he expected. he ordered one of the duck dishes. he is the type to gush over food if he likes it. So apparently it was either just ok or he didnt care for it much. He didn 't hate it though. Same reaction for his dessert, which was something that included apple in a jar with what looked like ice cream. Anyway, overall, I would go back. You definitely don 't go just for the food. It is not amazing, while at the same time you can better than at a pub or bar. You go because it is a quick walk from the hotel. The service is friendly and fast. The atmosphere is interesting and conducive to conversation. And you won 't break you wallet too bad. Not cheap, but not too expensive. My overall rating should really be 3.5 stars. But tonight I am feeling generous. :"
