Good French food, but you have to speak French because they dont understand so much in English. Nice placed.

High turnover and active pavement scene means that the food could have been iffy....but actually it was really ok. Friendly staff

After some nice time strolling, we stopped. Nice shade seating on the square. No frites. Mostly ice cream Service was slow, but the beer was cold. View menu

Bar l'Eden is a great little place to have a coffee during a visit to Castres, sitting outside watching the world go by. With our coffee we were given a small croissant - nice touch.

Great ice cream. I have the sadness to announce that a fire is declared at the restaurant on Wednesday, September 21. The restaurant is closed. (the firefighters intervened so much).

The service could have been friendlier, but was efficient anyway. The food was excellent. I had the "pièce de bœuf " which can often be chewy in France, but it wasn't at all. Also, the fries were very homemade-style making my meal amazing value for money. View menu

A bit more expensive than normal plat du jour menus but servings were very generous. Meals were a bit different with variety with many varied tastes. We sat out in the square and the service was quick and friendly even though English is not spoken. Definitely a meal we enjoyed/remember.

We dined in mid October on an evening that was warmer than we might normally expect. There was a hen party of about a dozen lively women in the restaurant (partie de poule can't be the right translation surely) but service was good and the food was of reasonable quality especially the profiteroles which were excellent. The restaurant is right on the central square and so is also good for people watching.

"The Mediéval occupies an 11th-century building built on the left bank of the Agout River; you enter from the first street to the east — the door is a few steps below street level. We chose this restaurant because one of our party had been here ten years ago and had a very positive memory of it. We weren’t disappointed. Its name refers both to the date of its building and to its ambience: the room has a vaulted ceiling supported by arches, thick walls, an old wooden cabinet, and some medievalish decorations. The main room holds about fourteen tables; a further couple of tables are in an adjoining alcove, and a porch overlooking the river allows a couple of small tables, used seasonally. The tables are placed fairly close to one another but the feeling isn't quite cramped, especially as only four other tables were being used. The white tablecloths and sturdy chairs enhance to the comfortable feeling. We were greeted warmly for lunch, and the daily specials were explained to us. The 17€ menu of the day seemed good value. There were no choices. It began with a light and tasty fish mousse on salad greens with vegetables; this was the most creatively conceived and interesting part of the meal. It was followed by a "plat" of turkey with a particularly notable mushroom gravy and mixed mashed potatoes. The dessert was pears in a rich caramel cream. As others have noted, the portions are generous. Nothing could have done better, though I’d reinforce what another reviewer says, that with the gravy, mash, and caramel cream dessert, this was by no means a low-fat meal. Good crusty rolls were given us and replenished. We included a bottle of recent Gaillac wine, modestly priced. Service was quite friendly, but, as other reviewers have noted, sometimes a bit slow, since the staff is small. (Accordingly, I've rated the service "average", but it was much better than average in warmth.) We were in no hurry, though, and didn’t mind. Given its pleasant setting and and comfortable room, the friendliness of the staff, the good value, and the very interestingly conceived and well prepared (though rich) food, I’d recommend the Mediéval to others."
