Used to be great and good value. Now a change of owner and prices are expensive. The food is less quality and I'm surprised it survives when places like Wetherspoon and A Class Act in Leadgate offer a far superior food and value.

I absolutely adore this restaurant. The staff is always friendly and welcoming as soon as you walk in the door. The menu is fantastic and the food and drinks are delicious. The coffee here is the best I've ever had. You definitely have to try the omelette!

First the good the staff were very friendly and attentive. And there was a very good choice of interesting scones. However my wife's sultana scone was stale and tasteless, and my cheese scone very tasty, but a bit doughy in the middle. Our fault, we should have reported the issues to give the staff a chance to put things right. Next time.

Staff are always friendly and welcoming, service can be extremely slow. On my last visit we asked for our table to be cleaned 3 times, our food then arrived. Young waitress struggled to appreciate our minor frustrations. Food has always been delicious with a good choice, absolutely love a caramel latte and eggs Benedict. I do continue to return but do feel an extra staff member would be of benefit to them. That’s why I gave 4 stars

We used to frequent Maddison's often and the food was always excellent. However, on our visit last Friday, we were disappointed with the cheese toasties and fish finger sandwich we ordered. They were not enjoyable at all, so much so that we left most of it uneaten. The cheesy chips were also missing, which was disappointing. It is unfortunate that the quality has declined, as Maddison's used to be one of the best restaurants in Consett.

Do not go to Costa anymore! I stopped by with my wife for coffee and cake last minute and it was a perfect 10/10. The coffee and homemade cake were the best I've had in the UK, to be honest. It's a superb place that deserves a visit. The staff is lovely, the atmosphere is great, and the cake and coffee are epic. It's not expensive at all for the quality you receive. Stop going to the typical chain cafes and check this place out instead!

Visited this morning for breakfast with toddler who has dairy allergy . Asked if they had white bread which didn’t contain egg or milk . The male server when to the counter and asked what I think was the manager who immediately said they dont have it . They don’t even check the packet . Clearly afraid to serve child with allergy! Is this inclusive!? Do they not realise 90% of white bread does not contain egg or milk, and we have taken her there before. Disappointing . They also advertise vegan food do they realise this can’t contain egg or milk!!

Just happened to be passing through Consett at lunch time,we parked outside the theatre saw Maddisons across the road,they were busy but they seemed to find tables quickly especially if you could climb stairs but being disabled we waited a short while. The food was very good,we both had toasted cheese sandwiches,asked for onion on both ,this was an extra 75 p each,think 50 p would have been plenty,a latte a pot of tea for 1,we bought 2 fruit scones to take away,which were delicious so large,shared one between us twice.£21 15 p was the bill. If in the area would definitely call again
