"When nostalgic about a Country, you usually tend its culinary next of kin at first chance.Greece has that special affect on people who have visited and many of the memories that become resident to our minds, are based on its amazing repertoire of culinary delights. One thing however that stands out most, is the Souvlaki Pita and the Gyros Pita. While you get it several variations, the principal is always the same.Pita bread is the wrap.Usually at least, since some times you might get a Cyprus Style bread, which is sliced open and everything gets placed inside. It’s ok, but I prefer it in the wrap version.Souvlaki is derived from the word Souvla, which means skew. The Souvlaki means basically small skew. While it all started with pork, nowadays chicken is close to as common as pork. The size of the meat on the skews allows it to be grilled rather fast, which I guess is one of the main reasons this became to be the most popular Greek Fast Food meal and only second to the Gyros Pita. But only because the Gyro machines came along. So the Gyros is the meat that is placed on the much bigger skew, which is then being slowly turned around its axis while slowly grilled from the electrically heated, or gas fire panels. It’s the same principal as what you know from a Kebab place, with the difference that the meat is pork or chicken and it is placed fillet over fillet on the gyro, whilst previously marinated.Instead of a pita bread, you can also have a little soft white bread that gets grilled to a slight crunch. That is called a Psomaki (little bread) and is something you will have a hard time finding beyond the borders of Greece. Can’t have it all, can we?A classic Pita also contains tomato, white onion, parsley and tzatziki. In some areas of Greece also some fries, which was a “trend” that started about twenty to thirty years ago and seems to have spread to nearly everywhere you can get a Pita. And while it sounds like easy-peasy, it really isn’t.Getting the herbs right, grilling the meat tender but juicy, making a good Tzatziki (lots of work!), well it’s a lot of work.Trust me, I do it every once and a while at home (the souvlaki version) and every time I’m finished with it all, my back hurts like hell and hours have passed.OK, I should mention I have a small kitchen. So, Mr. Gyros!I had both, the Gyros and the Souvlaki Pita. The Souvlaki took longer, as they grill the meat when ordered.Hence the Gyros Pita, in order for me to pass the time waiting, in a highly constructive manner.By the way, I was highly successful in that endeavour. Both Gyros and Souvlaki did not disappoint in the slightest when it came to the tenderness and balance of used spices. What was a bit disappointing was the amount of Tzatziki they put on the pita.It was a bit like painted on.The taste was there, but all the other ingredients (the right amount) dominated to much in comparing.Oh well, what the hell! And since you could get it that way also in Greece, it’s legit in my eyes.It was still very delicious and the price is very suitable and to point out, low.Btw, with French fries inside, amongst the tzatziki, some onion and tomato. The staff is friendly and all Greeks. All in all I liked it a lot and will visit again soon to try the Greek sausage……and a Pita……or two."

Shh, don't tell Mr. Döner that I was cheating on him with Mr. Gyros! Very Greek feel. Nice large stack of meat pieces on the spit, not the ground meat...

Despite some r views, I took a chance. But agree with the CW: portions too small. I had a gyro box and it was a scattering of meat and a scoop of fries. 7...

there were no tzatziki in both, the huh in brot and teller. in one there was a disgusting mayo and in the other a red spicy sauce.. the result was not good at all.
