"What a lovely warm welcome we received from the staff at this pub. Our first night of our holidays my partner, myself and our two black Labrador girls turned up at the pub starving, tired and in desperate need of a rest after being stuck on the M6 for what seemed like forever!! When we arrived we had missed last orders for food. Being a small village there was no local chip shops or takeaways near which meant us having to ride around not knowing the area looking for something to eat. The lady behind the bar did no more but found us a comfy seat where our girls could stretch out, poured our drinks and made sure the girls had water, gave us the menus and said I can’t see you starve . We enjoyed what I believe was the best fish and chips ever with very generous portions! Because we were shown so much kindness we decided to give our custom every night of our stay and I must say every single night and every single meal we were greeted and looked after. I would definitely recommend this pub and the staff to anyone they went above and beyond for us. Sunday roast is an absolute must is your visiting over the weekend period! Thanks peeps for making our holiday Kat, Martin, Belle and Mollie from Tamworth, The Midlands x"

Not been here for years even though I live locally. My family booked us in for a meal for a special occasion. I can't fault it. Food was amazing. Good beer. Great service.

Visited the Old Kings Head with family members. The staff were friendly, polite very efficient, they made sure we had our drinks and were settled before showing us the menu, which had a variety of items to choose from. The food was hot, tasty and very enjoyable, nobody had any complaints.

Had the most incredible time at Old Kings Head for supper (favourite pub so far in England)! Seriously ridiculously good food and fantastic service! We had a group of 7, ordered 7 meals, several starters, and desserts and each item was phenomenal! Cannot recommend enough or overstate! Enjoy!!!

First class freshly cooked.food and friendly service and great beer too. Make sure to try the American Red Ale. Very welcoming owners and staff and dog friendly too. By the end of our week’s stay we felt like regulars. We were made to feel very welcome indeed and joined in the Jubilee celebrations during our stay in the Lake District. Definitely be back. The Old Kings Head is definitely worth a visit.

"Staff were very friendly, welcoming and efficient. They were also very kind to our dog. We had drinks and food and though the drinks were good, the food was not. The words 'frozen ' and 'microwave ' were forefront in my mind throughout. The mash potato I had with my pie was face meltingly hot suggesting the microwave was used, and my wife 's battered fish was mushy and watery suggesting it was deep fried from frozen. The batter was also only about 1mm thick and was like wise mushy. The meat in my chunky steak pie was definatly chunky but was a little too firm (not tough, just not tender. Probably the wrong cut of meat rather than badly cooked). I then had the caramel apple pie as did another member of my party. While his was hot, mine was cold. I had mine with cream which when it arrived, had bubbles in and was luke warm. What I think happened was that mine was microwaved first and then drowned in cream and left to sit while the other was microwaved. This mean mine cooled in the cream while the cream warmed. It also meant that the pastry on the bottom went soggy, and from the rest of the pastry, it didn 't seem like it had much crisp to begin with. Now I know that times are hard and pubs like this can 't be expected to make everything from scratch, but there are 3 other pubs close by and unfortunately this one is doing nothing to stand out from the others, in terms of food anyway. Overall, a nice place for a quiet drink, but I 'll not be back for the food. The only saving grace was the price; £80 for 2 rounds of drinks (1 pint, 1 coke and 2 halves per round), 4 mains and 2 desserts...I suppose you get that you pay for though..."
