"Stopped at Helen's Teashop in Burton upon Trent for a cup of coffee and a snack when passing through the area. It is a traditional' cafe that seems to appeal in the main to a more mature senior clientele. Plenty of things to choose...from but I went for a regular latte coffee and an Eccles Cake, taken at one of their Market Square outside tables. The Eccles Cake had a very nice base, almost like toffee and it went down very well with my coffee. The Eccles Cake was also good value. In general Helen's Cafe was pleasant enough but I just felt it was a little too dated to entice me back regularly. Highly recommend the Eccles Cakes though!"

"Visited many times in the past, very disappointing this time, ordered spare ribs, 3 tiny bones with next to no meat. Main meals the beef in one was so chewy couldn’t eat it,the chicken dish was ok but had better,mentioned it about the beef when they came to clear the plates but no response. Won’t be going back, shame as used to be a great place."

"Did the usual scan on Trip Advisor for good places to eat whilst away visiting family. Carla’s Cafe came up with 5 Stars so took our attention immediately and we found out why on our first visit. We had some panini’s, full English and some scrambled eggs on toast for my usually very fussy daughter (they have to taste just right lol . Everyone cleared their plate of the generous portions and were sure to return, which we did several times. I Highly recommend Carla’s for some really good British grub, the freshly made cakes were delicious too. Spotlessly clean and Carla is very friendly. We will always return here when in Burton. Thanks Carla :"

"This is the second time we’ve visited. I can’t remember too much about the first time, which was pre COVID. Inside is lovely and modern, the staff are very friendly and welcoming. I had Lamb Passanda, which is always a favourite. Unfortunately the iamb was a little bit tough, clearly needed to be cooked for some time longer. I know it’s difficult with lamb when food is made to order but other restaurants seem to manage it. The sauce was nice but made with cashews, the almond version for me is much richer and nicer. Rice and peshwari naan were fine. You can take your own drink in, which is a bonus. Given the competition in and around Burton Apne and Anoki are both consistently top notch, I think Rivaj needs to raise its game a bit. It’s not bad by any means, it just needs to be a bit better. I’d come back though and try something different, maybe avoid lamb."

"This place used to be absolutely amazing when Sally owned it. As I’ve recently moved to the area I took the family for a nice Sunday lunch well it was far from it. Better off going to a dive like toby carvery to be honest. Veg all hard, frozen roast potatoes, chicken dryer than anything experienced before. Eventually when asked if the table could be cleared the dinner plates were still full and stated what was wrong and the guy just took the plates away and eventually bought the bill to the table. The bill was the full amount when I was surprised with. So we went to the bar to pay and I told him you have a choice of taking a dinner off or I’m walking out without paying you a penny. So the bill was altered and I was asked what was wrong even though this had been already discussed. He was apologetic but the original guy didn’t say a thing. So the service isn’t exactly there either"
