"We stopped here for some food after seeing good reviews. The restaurant side was quiet initially, getting very busy by the time we left. I had cauliflower soup to start, which I found quite bland, but nice after a lot of salt and pepper. The bread was lovely but a lack of butter was annoying. My partner had the charcuterie board which was huge for a starter but the meat and olives were nothing special. We then had the 24 hour cooked lamb shoulder, which was so tough we could barely cut through it, even after asking for steak knives. The few bits I ate were stringy and tough and left me chewing for so long my jaw ached and I had to, embarrassingly, evacuate the mouthful into my napkin. I also nearly choked on a piece after a stringy bit got caught in my tooth and a piece of meat went halfway down my throat, causing a 20 second panic where I couldn’t breathe! We gave up on them and they looked barely touched when our plates were collected. We explained to the lovely waiter who said he would feed this back to the chef. The potatoes and veg were lovely though. We had a brownie and ice cream for pudding, which took forever to arrive. We paid at the bar for speed, no discount was offered despite us not eating 95% of our main courses. The waiters were very lovely though. Sad to say we won’t be returning due to this experience."

Came here in a group of 9 adults on Sunday, fantastic food, good sized portions and wonderful French wine. We are the lamb, beef, duck and chicken between us and everyone loved it. Clearly the new owners are going to be great for this pub.

The shoulder of lamb was chewy and bland to the point my partner almost choked. It was even difficult to cut with a steak knife. The soup was bland. We did complain about the lamb not being cooked correctly. We didn't get offered any discount. The only thing good about this place was nice staff and nice pudding. Will not be returning here. Had Sunday lunch there today and was very disapointed with the food. The meringue was like a brick and grey in parts in colour and unedible. My sunday lunch came inside a yorkshire pudding which soaked up all my gravy. They charged me a £1 for extra gravy! The beef was melt in your mouth but thr roasts were not the best ive had. My friend thinks their chef was on his day off as her previous meals there were excellent.

Despite a big sign outside saying dogs welcome , I took my dogs in and was told they’re not allowed in the lounge as people are eating there was not a single person in sight let alone anyone eating. When politely questioned the landlord told me “I suggest you move on” well I suggest you get a business brain, turning custom away in these hard times. I like to support small local pubs but how can you with such braindead incompetent clowns in charge. I’ll stick to the millers arms , a nice pub with a welcoming atmosphere.
