"A cosy little hotel with a warm welcome, clean comfortable rooms, good food and drink. Our double was a little small but had a good bed, tv, Wi-Fi, bathroom and shower. The restaurant food was lovely and tasty. We had fish and chips which was a fabulous sized cod and a dirty chicken burger which was very tasty. Red wine Rioja was excellent too rounded off with some Peroni. Breakfast was good but no croissants which was surprising. We played some pool and also The car park surprisingly also had a few EV chargers too. Constructive improvement comments: 1. The breakfast options could include some pastries, I really wanted a croissant. Also offer different egg ways. -boiled, poached etc 2. Breakfast times are a bit early closing 3. Clear the untidy view of the upturned chairs and from the restaurant annexe window"

"This lovely pub/hotel had several vegan options all of which sounded amazing! I went here with my husband (also vegan) for starters I got the cauliflower bites which came with a delightful mint mayo dip my husband ordered onion bhajis which came with a tangy mango chutney and was also lovely! For our main, we both initially ordered banana blossom fish and chips but they only had enough for one portion so my husband ordered the vegan lasagna. Both mains were brilliant! They allow dogs inside and were so accommodating for our female dog who can be wary of strangers (training ongoing). Staff were so lovely,the atmosphere was nice and the beer even better! Will definitely make a return trip here. Updated from previous review on 2023-06-10"

"We made a reservation for 4 adults and 2 dogs for the evening, as we had confirmed that they were allowed. We were initially seated outside while our table was being prepared. The waitress promptly took our drink and starter orders, and they arrived quickly and were delicious. However, after that, things took a turn for the worse. We waited for an hour before someone finally cleared our table and brought out our main dishes. We had to inquire about the delay, as other guests who arrived after us were already ordering and receiving their meals. While I don't mind waiting a reasonable amount of time, it felt like we were being ignored or forgotten. The staff were quick to bring the bill and request payment. Overall, it was a disappointing experience and had the potential to be much better."

"Edit: Thursday 9th November 2023: Still excellent. AND their toilet paper is QUALITY! Edit: Tuesday 8pm (20:00) Guinness and bacon butty, ideal. Lovely staff and great service, level access and outdoor seating may well suit wheelchair users. Dog friendly, and with fitting and interesting decor (pointing towards some of the history of Whitehaven it's harbour with it's links to Ireland), Excellent views across the harbour, level access, nice food, selection of beers (Guinness, Stella, others), better hot chocolate than Greggs or McDonalds, also their lemonade on tap and cordial are both ok for those like me who cannot stand the taste of Aspartame, a snacks menu for people and a snacks menu for dogs (waterbowl for dogs outside near the entrance). Has tables and seating inside and out front on the harbour most of the day early evening. A lovely place to watch the sunset. And they have a pub quiz 3rd Wednesday of the month. And they sell bacon butties. And their own-branded Spirit (available in bottles) is quite a tasty warmer-upper... And they stock XL Cheese crisps, locally very popular and with good reason. "This is a fantastic pub restaurant and hotel, firstly the staff and owners are fantastic great service always with a smile on thier faces, the pub is just so welcoming it's like sitting in your living room with friends,it's the most dog friendly place I've ever been to our Rosie loves it we just let her off her lead she just flops in front of the log fire and has a sleep then she goes and says hello to all the other people and dogs in there its brilliant, then their is the food which is simply outstanding every meal I've had and it's quite a few has been restaurant quality my highlight is the steak and ale pie all I can say is wow desserts are also fantastic and they cater very well for gluten free which is a godsend for my fiance, breakfast is very good plenty of fruit cereals juice tea coffee and a fantastic full English although their are also plent of other things to have on the menu you even get a sausage for your dog,the rooms are clean tidy could do with a bit of an update but the beds are comfortable and they are warm the hotel caters for walkers and they don't mind if you come in the pub with muddy boots, their is also a drying room and electric charge point and ample carparking, I cannot recommend the Bower house enough and can't wait for our next visit 11/10 Rooms: 4 Service: 5 Location: 5"
