"Lunch at 2pm on a Sunday. seated in the dog friendly quiet centre of the pub in the bar area. drinks were served promptly and orders taken efficiently. some warm brown sourdough crusty bread arrived and all seemed good. my wife’s guinea fowl was tasty and well cooked and the sides of beetroot and green vegetables were enjoyable. my beef was tough and dry and flavourless. i would have asked for a sharper knife to cut it but i couldn’t catch a waiters eye. i should have complained but despite being seated in the middle of the pub near the bar no one came back to the table till 15mins after my wife had finished her meal. eventually the table was cleared and despite most of the beef being left on the plate nothing was said. we asked for the bill and it wasn’t until the point of paying that someone asked how the food was. it was not good enough. the pub really seems to be struggling to meet pre pandemic standards and i could not recommend the beef for Sunday lunch. the head waiter seemed surprised the beef was not pink but from looking at other dinners’ meals i d be more surprised if any had been served pink that service. if you are after a good roast beef dinner i d avoid the Punch Bowl at Crosthwaite Food drinks: Lunch at 2pm on a Sunday. seated in the dog friendly quiet centre of the pub in the bar area. drinks were served promptly and orders taken efficiently. some warm brown sourdough crusty bread arrived and all seemed good. my wife’s guinea fowl was tasty and well cooked and the sides of beetroot and green vegetables were enjoyable. my beef was tough and dry and flavourless. i would have asked for a sharper knife to cut it but i couldn’t catch a waiters eye. i should have complained but despite being seated in the middle of the pub near the bar no one came back to the table till 15mins after my wife had finished her meal. eventually the table was cleared and despite most of the beef being left on the plate nothing was said. we asked for the bill and it wasn’t until the point of paying that someone asked how the food was. it was not good enough. the pub really seems to be struggling to meet pre pandemic standards and i could not recommend the beef for Sunday lunch. the head waiter seemed surprised the beef was not pink but from looking at other dinners’ meals i d be more surprised if any had been served pink that service. if you are after a good roast beef dinner i d avoid the Punch Bowl at Crosthwaite Service: 2 Location: 4"

The roast here was exceptional. The beef, Yorkshire pud, potatoes veg were cooked perfectly. And it comes with a side of cauliflower cheese which was delicious and extra gravy just in case. Highly recommend. Service: 5 Location: 5

Very very overpriced food. Tiny portions. 4 extremely small pieces of lamb with a tiny cube of vegetable. Side dishes and wine very expensive. Beautiful evening and couldn't eat outside at table. Had to go inside to gloomy interior. Food drinks: Too expensive food is great if you on a diet! Service: 1 Location: 1 Hotel highlights: Quiet

Perfection in paradise! Tucked away in a sleepy corner of the Lake District is Crosthwaite and it's marvellous pub, The Punchbowl Inn. Having braved fog and torrential rain , we were greeted with freshly baked Scones , clotted cream and cups of tea. mine was Gluten Free and incredible!! All the staff were kind, friendly ,professional and greeted guests with such enthusiasm that we felt welcome for our entire stay. Our room was spacious, comfortable and well appointed. We enjoyed dinner and breakfast during our stay and both were exceptionally good. Rooms: 5 Service: 5 Location: 5 Hotel highlights: Luxury, Quiet

Menu was very limited and over priced. There was nothing on the menu that I could order and so a family member asked for a child menu in the absence of anything suitable for a diabetic however the waiter stated that the children’s menu “is for children!”. Informed him that there was nothing suitable to which he replied “it is a gastro pub!” His attitude was rude and pompous, I really wanted to inform him that I had not booked and nor would I however as I was there with family who had booked following a trip to Grasmere to scatter my father in law’s ashes I felt unable to point this out and then leave! I was finally offered a meal from the lunch menu which proved to be acceptable but will not...
