"Saigon Sonne is located in the heart of Heidelberg Altstadt's pedestrian zone, so they get a decent crowd of locals and tourists for lunch. When we visited for lunch, there was only one waiter on duty. For me, a Vietnamese eatery's Phở is a litmus test of sorts so we had to order some. As we wanted to sample a few other dishes, we thought to order the appetizer size Phở (€4,90). We were taken aback when the waiter told us the bowl would be the size of the tea light holder on the table! We decided to order one bowl of the "lunch special" size (€9,90) but got served the full-sized portion (€13,90) divided into two bowls. For this price, one would expect a side plate of fresh beansprouts and herbs to garnish the Phở with (like how it's done in any self-respecting Vietnamese eatery), but everything was pre-added to the bowl. We did get some lime, Sriracha chili sauce and Hoisin sauce to refine our Phở.We ordered three other starters - Bo La Lot (€8,90) Banh Cuon (€6,50) and the sampler platter Bun Cha (€8,90). They tasted mediocre and the accompanying "Nuoc Cham" (dipping sauce) was quite bland. While browsing the menu, we noticed a page dedicated to grilled crispy duck, their house specialty. Seems to be popular with the lunchtime crowd as we saw a few tables ordering it as a lunch menu. Verdict - if you find yourself in Heidelberg Altstadt craving a bowl of Beef Phở, you might want to make your way instead to Tiger and Dragon's Food Corner in Das Carré, Heidelberg. Their Phở tastes just as good, and a large bowl will satisfy your cravings for only €5,10."

Excellent stuff, fresh ingredients, delicious meal, nice terrace and variety of dishes. You can also order the half of most of the dishes so you can try different things. A really good restaurant!

Stopped here for lunch, great location near old town and seating outside available, pho for lunch amazingly good served hot on rainy overcast day. Would also recommend the vietnamese rolls as appetizer.

My husband and I went to Heidelberg for a weekend getaway. I am not so keen on German cuisine, so he nicely opted for Thai with me. The restaurant had fast and friendly service, fresh ingredients and a great ambience. Recommended if you want a nice alternative!

Found this as an alternative to other Asian restaurants in Heidelberg. The food was good and the spices nice. Dessert not so much, but all in all our stay met our expectations. I recommend making a reservation as this place gets busy quite fast during dinner hours.

The staff were very welcoming and helpful and also gave us a free drink at the end of our meal which was a nice touch and unexpected. Our waitress was especially friendly and helpful and made our visit pleasant. The food was excellent and the portions were large. We are a vegan and a vegetarian and had a good choice. We wouldn't hesitate to return or recommend it to others.

The meals we ordered (Pho and Spring rolls) were very good and delivered the experience we expected from a Vietnamese restaurant. The staff was friendly and helpful, although it took quite a time to prepare our meals, despite the fact that we visited in a highly off-peak time (but then maybe the kitchen is less staffed in off-peak hours). Also, I find some of the meals to be rather overpriced - I understand that this is to be expected in such a central tourist location, but then again there are restaurants nearby that have more reasonable prices.

We opted for the three course set menu at around 18.50 euros. It represents good value vs the other dishes on the menu.We started with a small bowl of pho, my dining partner from Vietnam said it was good, although the broth was a little weak for my tastes. The main course was duck and rice with plenty of salad and extra chicken. This was a portion for body builders as it was huge. Very generous portions but personally would have been happier with it a third smaller. I don't like to waste food so are everything. Finally, a small coconut and tapioca dessertRecommended

I'm a huge fan of the asian cuisine and love this authentic family-run restaurant.I came here lots and always got something new, but my favourite dishes were the Pho soup and the yellow curry duck! Super yummy!!They serve whole salad leafs to some dishes and just like in Vietnam I could wrap my food and some herbs inside those and dipped it in the Nuoc mam (and Oh my! those appetisers were good). The food which were marked as spicy aren't but you can always ask for fresh chili, herbs etc. and spice it up! All in all it was always a pleasure to eat there. I will definitely come back when i'm in Germany!
