"Dining out is all about stimulating all the senses. The ambiance, the service the food.... all in there own way contribute to either having a bad, or 'just ' a good dining or having a really good memorable dining experience. As you enter you come into what looks like an 'old open plan public bar ', which is not particularly inviting, however you are quickly ushered right into the open dining area. First observations of this are very nice, but on a closer look you do get the impression that they either ran out of money or ideas in respect of the finishing touches. Seriously suggest they change the curtains and remove the very 70 's window vases?? Service overall was very attentive and helpful and totally acceptable. The floor manager does need to 'loosen ' up a bit and be a bit more gentle in his approach. Tended to rather shout and although helpful, this was a bit obtrusive. We only got a 'check back ' after we had finished each course, which was too late. Lets talk about the food. The starters were superb. Would recommend the 'mushrooms ', delightful tasty. The lamb chops divine. So we were off to a good start! For mains two of us had a lamb dish, Laal Mass which was absolutely superb, our third friend had the Chicken Masala Dosa, which as a fully self contained dish was again superb. All these dishes had great flavours, lovely meat and were well presented. The rice breads were very good. As a side portion we had a portion of the black lentils, the Dal Bukhara superb!! So let me finish on my dish, a Lamb Patia, which I tend to select often when dining out...then I have to say it was one of the worst I have ever ordered. Bland meat in a 'tomato ' based sauce, in fact it really did feel like I was eating meat in a tomato soup? This was supposed to be a 'sweet sour ' sauce.... it was nether sweet or sour! Given the superb meals my companions were having only added to my utter disappointment. It spoiled the night, and I couldn 't wait to leave. Would I return, probably.... but I would be careful what I ordered.... and even if there in company would definitely speak up, and not as on this occasion deciding not to spoil the meals of the others in my party."

I ordered the lamb buna at this restaurant and found it to be very bland. The taste was unappealing to me as it seemed to be full of uncooked gravy.

This restaurant offers delicious food and a consistently pleasant atmosphere with attentive and welcoming staff. I have brought several friends here and they always return when they are in the area.

If you like to taste the individual spices of Indian food, then go here. The food is outstanding, the service is excellent and the prices are amazing considering it's Edinburgh. We've even gone for Christmas dinner, and couldn't be happier with the whole dining experience.

I had a team lunch at this restaurant today and found the food to be only average. Unfortunately, the service was quite terrible. The plates and glasses that the food was served on were not clean. The service was very slow and we had to wait at least 10 minutes just to get water. I ordered mango kulfi but received mango ice cream instead. It's a shame that they label themselves as an Indian restaurant.

Went to the restaurant for a meal because we couldn't secure seats at a nearby Italian restaurant: it turned out to be an excellent decision! Food was very tasty, ambience was cosy and service was simply brilliant! There are a few seats in the restaurant from where you can get some glorious views of the City of Edinburgh. Highly recommend the restaurant if you love tasty, spicy food in a relaxed environment with friendly and authentic service from staff.

the spice lounge kitchen is probably the only Indian restaurant that I enjoyed. not that I have been a lot, but that is one that I would warmly recommend for friends and family to appreciate the good customer service along with good eating. the staff are very friendly and welcome every time we go through the door. the restaurant opened in 2012 with modern decor is warm and welcoming. the menu is listed with chili leaves to give them an indication of how sharp the dishes are. at each visit we have ordered various dishes and are impressed each time with the food. with only the starter and the main course we are really satisfied and filled and are never able to find enough space for dessert. so...

Visited this restaurant with family and friends to celebrate my husband's birthday as we had heard good reports. I have to say that the menu selection was excellent with a great range of dishes (many of which were new to me). The food itself was excellent no complaints from any of our party, who all seemed to thoroughly enjoy their choice of dishes. The starter scallops were particularly tasty and I did enjoy the selection of nan breads. The staff were all friendly and helpful too. My only small criticism is that the wait between starters and main courses was a bit longer than I would have expected. I am sure all the dishes were cooked to order and the restaurant was very busy but over half...

"new kapitel has caught my attention after I was on top ten on trip advisor only months after the opening in the oktober last year. that and the fact that it is open for my early january birthday, made it the perfect place to celebrate to become a little older. I was with the man and his family. the man is quite used to my taste and good to the kind of kitchen that would appeal to me for a special occasion; his family not so much and I was filled with shame as his mother scornful went through the menu trying to find something she would enjoy. I've eaten with the family of the man, and I know they enjoy eating, so I think it's a failure of the menu that it is not accessible. the benming always blooming and garnish can appeal to some, but for others it is overcomplicated and it is necessary to find a balance between the two. we start with the starters and I go for venison sour wort pithvier. the venison was underheated and incredibly dry, to the happiness the sourded a little moisturizing and so saved the whole dish, but the aromen were quite not clear, except the garnitur of plastered mushrooms I thoroughly enjoyed. for the largest part we chose a fish dish for our main,- sea trout, smoked muddles, petersilien and coast herbs. where the starter fell, the main recording is getting back. the dish is rich and creamy, and each element adds the complexity of the taste as a whole, without disturbing. the concept is now an old one, and it would be deceptive if it had not worked, as it would essentially pay with this place. I enjoyed my meal in new chapter, although I do not agree with it is stellar status under the hierarchy of edinburgh eateries. it is top ten position is just a flash in the pan of hot popularity, and in time it will be plated in the upper half of the middle stage where it belongs. and that is where it belongs, the dishes can be plated with a michelin star in understood, and the venue and the supporting media has the clean lines and empty slate look of fine but eat the team has a long gone to go if that is their real aim. at the end, although it was a beautiful meal, and cheap (at the moment I would not be surprised to see their prices slowly rise) and the man’s mother found something they enjoyed and that is the most important."
