"Accommodation very disappointing. A great shame really as a few small changes and attention to detail would make a lot of difference, I would then stay again. The room was dusty teeming with cobwebs and spiders. There were holes in the ceiling where a lot of attempts had been made to place an aerial cable for the tv, which was barely managing to stay on the wall. A radiator was hanging off the wall only held on by the pipes. Wallpaper hanging off the wall and ceiling, holes everywhere filled in with tissues in various places, and sash windows which were draughty, one of them had no way of securing it closed. The final downer was woodlice, yes woodlice! under the bed and bedside unit. I can usually get past most issues provided a place is clean, but I only stayed the one night and didn't sleep a wink. The plus side for this place is that the food is **** great, and the staff friendly, although the branded beer lager choice on tap is limited unless you're a real ale buff. Video and pictures were taken."

Stopped for a drink and first choice (cider) not available so opted for lager which we ended up leaving unfinished as it was too warm to be considered enjoyable so unfortunately a disappointing experience.

This historic, traditional, and well-managed inn with friendly staff is a charming spot. We initially stopped in for coffee and ended up returning for tea after our walk in the stunning Pentland hills. There is also extra seating available outside. We plan on coming back and highly recommend it.

Upon our arrival for check-in, we found that no one was present. Despite attempting to contact the restaurant via phone and email, we received no response. After reaching out to Booking.com, they promptly refunded us as they also could not reach anyone at the restaurant. We later discovered that this was not an isolated incident. As we were from Lancashire, this left us in a difficult situation. The service was appalling, and it is clear that they should refrain from accepting any further bookings.

We spent with our dog a few days there and had a very good experience. PLACE: it is tidy and clean. Dedicated to Allan Ramsay, a famous Scottish character, the hotel is a bit like a museum, great idea! FOOD: we were actually pleasantly surprised, the food was well above what you would expect in a pub, a well deserved 5 star just for it. SERVICE: really friendly staff, they made us feel comfy and welcome at all times. FOR HIKERS: right outside the hotel, you have access to the Pentland National park hills. It 's kind of hidden though, so check on google map the River North Esk behind the hotel, the access to the park is there.
