"We visited the recently refurbished reopened Craigie Hotel for lunch over the festive period with a group of friends. The day didn 't get off to a good start when the waiting staff couldn 't locate our lunch reservation. However, these things happen so we waited whilst they arranged a table. And waitied....... and waited......... Eventually, some 30 minutes later, we were informed by someone who appeared to be management that a table was available. Once seated, drinks orders were taken and quickly delivered to the table. The earlier wait was beginning to seem like a distant memory already. However... once the young member of staff began to distribute drinks, it soon became apparent that the order bore little resemblance to what was expected by our party. Beers were bottled instead of draught, wine was red instead of white. Ice was served in drinks when it was specifically requested without. Drinks returned, it took a further 15 minutes before everyone seated actually had what they had asked for. Things can only get better now right? Wrong. The food was a disgrace for a hotel which masquerades as a venue nearer the upper end of the taste and class scale. The sandwiches were reminiscent of a 4am hotel room service snack both in presentation and taste, and the salads looked like they had been plucked from the 'whoops ' section of a supermarket aisle. By this time enough was enough, and a member of our group spoke with a manager. However, despite detailing our disappointments at what had been a very below par service, the 'manager ' offered no explanation and seemed very condescending. Given our spend, I found this astonishing that someone employed in the service industry could behave in this manner. I will be taking this up in writing with the hotel GM at the earliest opportunity. Needless to say, my friend and his wife who were on the verge of booking their summer wedding at this venue have now categorically ruled it out. I would suggest anyone considering the Craigie for lunch, dinner or a wedding reception consider their options very carefully."

Friends were staying at The Craigiebield, and were very happy with their room, we decided to have Sunday dinner, sadly roast beef was tough, it had been sliced in very thick slices which didn’t help, I’m sure if it had been sliced thinly they would have got away with the meat being tough. Food was served on cold plates not good when hot food is being served. Staff were very attentive and friendly. Refurb of the hotel has made a great difference. View menu

Ate Lunch here with my wife, the place has had a bit of a face lift and looks good. The food was very tasty bar food and I had no complaints with it and enjoyed it. It would be worth a return to try the restaurant evening menu. My only issue would be the women behind who insistently complained about everything in her life and her food as well the waiter looked a bit stressed with it and it kind of spoiled our dining experience. However this is not the Hotel's fault.

We went for a sneaky drink on a Thurs afternoon. The fires were roaring, the bar was quiet .. we had the place to ourselves pretty much. Great new furniture and the bar looks great. The staff were friendly and showed us round the restaurant, when we asked to see it, and the massive function room looks v swish too. I asked for new drink because the bar person used pump tonic in my G and T and it was flat and yucky, but they had nice bottled tonic, which was great. We will come back and try the food some time soon.

Was here for a family catch up over a brunch and interior looked good after the recent refurbishment. High chairs and colouring books crayons etc are available for younger guests diners to keep them amused and entertained. This initially encouraging view was then let down a little after the orders were taken. Wrong incorrect drinks were brought or were left sitting on the coffee maker, having seemingly been forgotten about until gently reminded. Some of the food was also incorrect as well despite a different version being specifically ordered requested and had to be returned to the kitchen to be re-done. Most of these issues would be seemingly straightforward to resolve, but was disappointin... View menu

My wife and I went for lunch, I had the Cullen skink to start, I was surprised to find it didn't come with bread but it was up there with the best I've tasted. My wife had pate, she was served a big portion of fresh pate with lots of oatcakes she found the plum jam too tarte. Next up I had fish and chips, lovely big portion of fresh crispy fish with homemade chips, it was very nice. My wife had a steak sandwich which was a little too rare for her so she sent it back. She was slightly disappointed with it and it was quite expensive for what she got. Service was great, the atmosphere was quiet but it started to liven up a bit with a few more tables coming in. One thing I didn't like was the gl...

Came here for a meal with 6 people. The first problem arose when there was nowhere to hang our coats. Drinks took a while to arrive. We ordered different white wines and both were served warm. We pointed this out but it was never really properly resolved. This was even the case when we ordered more wine later. The food was very good. We all ordered different starters and mains and we were all very happy with our choices. Desserts were of a similar high standard. However the table layout meant the waiter had to hand plates to us to pass down the table. Unfortunately in the middle of our meal another large party arrived at the table opposite ours and the poor layout of the dining room caused m...

"I am sitting in my room at the sun inn as I am writing. It's a Sunday. I checked in at 8 15. The one young employee who was in the building was professional but informed me on arrival that the kitchen had closed. Bummer but it is a Sunday. Upon asking when the bar would close he told me 10pm. I decided to go to the shops and buy some cold sausage rolls and a bottle of wine to mitigate the early closing and grabbed a quick single beer in Dalkeith in a bar that closed at 11. My intention was to pay more for somewhere I could have several drinks without driving but I tried to make the best of my origional plan. I got back to the sun inn at 930 to find not a solitary light on and figured I'll watch some TV instead. Only the TV didn't work. I dismounted it after trying to configure settings on the 2 controls. The sky box was not connected sinse it was a flat wall mount and there was only a single accecible hdmi port, out of three, that could be used. That was already oucupied by the fire stick. Now it is sitting on the dresser since it cannot be remounted with both availible devices connected. 40 minutes of fooking around and nothing has changed. The bar is closed. No night porter, no TV, no breakfast and a broken bathtub. All the reasons I paid the extra to come here instead of the cheaper airport option have be removed. The room is nice though. It's as good as an airport one minus the stains on the headboard of the bed."
