"im really sad as this used to be a lovely place to stop on a walk and sit outside with a drink and a sandwich, i last ate here last year and had a lovely sandwich with a little salad and crisps, however this time we paid the same amount and was given a very sorry looking sandwich, no garnish or crisps and we had to send a search party out for the cheese, we spoke with the staff who stated that the owner is cutting back on the food!! but did offer to pad out the sandwich with some more cheese and some pickle, i wouldn 't mind but this sandwich cost 5.95. totally unacceptable we won 't be returning, there are nicer places to eat in the square!"

Lovely place. We had tea and scones in the garden and brought friends there for lunch the following day. Great service both times. Lovely food and great service.

What a find! A genuine old place and a beautiful tea room. The host was super friendly and accomodating. Tea and cake was DEVINE! I thoroughly enjoyed our quick visit. It’s certainly worth a detour to visit and refresh.

This beautiful, quaint, teashop nestled in Axbridge square is a joy to visit. The staff are friendly, welcoming helpful, plus they serve some of the best scones/cream teas I've ever had. They welcome well behaved dogs too which is brilliant for all the walkers in the area. Really can't fault the place

Stopped here after a walk around the reservoir for a quick cream tea. We sat outside as we have a dog but it was dog friendly indoors too. Staff were extremely friendly. Cream tea was lovely and all very fresh with beautiful china tea pots. We would definitely recommend. It's also a great place for people watching in the square.

We are regular visitors to The Almshouse. The scones are excellent and the clotted cream is served generously. The variety of cakes means there's something for all tastes. The coffee is good and the Belgian hot chocolate superb. The team are always friendly. All that and a well-curated new and second-hand bookshop. Cosy atmosphere inside plus seating on the square.

Afternoon tea with friends. It was lovely! I had the vegan option which was delicious! A suggestion would be to perhaps add some whipped vegan cream to the tea, which would add to the lovely experience, but it really was a lovely spread. Our pot of tea was constantly topped up, at no extra cost, and at no point did we feel hurried. We were able to take some of the cakes home in a doggy bag, to enjoy later and avoid waste. Thank you for a wonderful afternoon

Friendly staff. The shop was very busy with upstairs as well as outside tables and we therefore had to wait some time. However, a pleasant and cosy place to enjoy. My husband had a chocolate and biscoffi cake which was sublime. Unfortunately I had the GF option, a tired Victoria sponge that was past its date. I didn't complain, they had enough to cope with. The dried-out flowerless stems on the table standing in green water, could have been removed or replaced.

Fabulous old building just off the square in Axbridge. We were lucky enough to get a table for lunch had drinks quiche after a couple of laps of the reservoir. My friend considers herself a hot chocolate connoisseur she said it was one of the best hot chocolates she has had (I think it was Belgian chocolate). The quiche salad was lovely and we took some slices of the homemade cherry bakewell home with us. All lovely but the staff especially were friendly welcoming. I also noticed dog's were welcome.

Fell into this place having parked the car. Seemed busy from the front, but plenty of room at the back.Great menu and quite an extensive specials board, but we were just after a coffee...... and a scone cream and jam and a buttered tea cake..... obv,Coffee was great and the scone was brilliant, and so much jam and clotted cream that my wife just had to share it!All for under a tenner with fast efficient and extremely friendly service we will be back, and the wife can order cream and jam for herself!!Go, enjoy and support this great place.

"Been wanting to try this ‘alternative’ pub for a while. Large car park with plenty of space, no steps or slopes into the bar. Access for buggies, wheelchairs etc should be okay, my mother walks with the aid of a frame and has no issues. Inside the decor is certainly alternative but in a great way, loved it! Plenty to look at, keep you entertained and talk about as you wait for your food or just pass the time. Staff were friendly and welcoming, there was just one guy running the bar, taking food orders and bringing food out; I thought he needed a helper or coworker really. There is a decent bar area with seating or there is more ‘restaurant’ style seating further back beyond the bar. We chose to sit in the bar area seating which is a mixture of booth and chairs. Dogs are allowed in which is great, there is free Wi-Fi which is good as my mobile signal was very poor. The menu is standard pub food, quite a bit of choice and plenty of options for gluten free. I chose to have the fillet steak cooked medium, I had a starter of garlic bread but chose for it all to come out together. Mother had beef brisket loaded fries, the portion was massive so I had to help her finish it. The steak was perfectly cooked, I chose to have the peppercorn sauce; this was a bit watery and bland. The steak comes with chunky chips, peas, mushrooms, tomatoes and onion rings. For dessert I had the nutty apple crumble with ice cream, it was okay. Overall this is a great venue with acceptable food, friendly staff and awesome decor that will keep you talking and looking all night. Based on this experience I would visit again."
