"We were looking for somewhere nice to stop for lunch whilst on the way to Ilminster and found The Almshouse Tea Shop on Google. Highly recommended, I phoned to see if we needed to book a table, as we were only 20 minutes away, and the lady who picked up the phone (the owner? was super friendly helpful. When we arrived we found a table outside (we were told there was no need to book this time and as the tea shop is set in the historical market square, the views of the buildings surrounding us were beautiful. I went inside and ordered a sausage roll salad and also a cheese red onion scone, plus a some cakes. Everything was absolutely delicious! The lady who brought our food out was the same lady I spoke to on the phone and again, she was super helpful. She told us about the Axbridge Heritage Trail which we will definitely try next time. Would strongly recommend The Almshouse Tea Shop and intend to visit again upon our return journey in a few days!"

Lovely people great coffee and fantastic home baking. All in a historic building. The cafe is located on the medieval market square. Well worth a stop. Oh and they have a bookshop.

Super place, lovely staff. Popped in for a Pot of tea, ended up with Scone Jam and cream. Scones warm, jam and cream, excellent. Very quaint place. Service was very quick. Will be back. View menu

Lovely little cafe with outside seating on the square, free parking and public toilets nearby.Yummy cheese scone, soup and sandwiches, good specials board. If sitting outside lots of interesting old buildings to look at.

The food was delicious. We enjoyed a delightful afternoon tea with fantastic sandwiches and the best scones. The staff was all lovely. It was quite busy, so I suggest booking in advance if possible. Looking forward to visiting again soon.

This is an amazing tearoom situated in the centre of the beautiful village of Axbridge. Customer service is brilliant, both by the delightful owner and her very capable assistant. The highlight of course must be the Bakewell Tart, which has to be the best in the UK, if not the world. It was absolutely delicious. If there was mail order available I would be ordering it weekly ! Thank you for a lovely experience at the Almshouse Tearooms. David Arkley/Stuart Ross Belfast. View menu

We initially tried to go into the café across the street because it had tables in the sun, but we couldn't find the entrance to the Almshouse right away (it's 10 yards down the street). The outdoor seating may not be as attractive as its neighboring café, but once inside, it's a different story. The Almshouse has a really nice menu with a great selection of cakes and sandwiches, as well as excellent coffee served by friendly staff. The interior of the Almshouse is charming, with a bookshop and a spiral staircase leading to more seating. We will definitely be heading straight to the Almshouse next time we're in Axbridge!

Our experience at The Almshouse tea shop was fantastic from beginning to end. Despite having to make a few requests and changing our reservation date due to illness, the staff were incredibly accommodating. The lady I spoke with was very pleasant, as were all the other employees. The tea shop is situated in a beautiful location and is filled with charming details that make it truly unique. The afternoon tea we enjoyed was made with high-quality ingredients and was absolutely delicious. We were impressed by the variety of sandwich fillings and the freshly baked scones were warm and simply delightful. The assortment of cakes was equally delightful, with the Bakewell tart being a particular sta...

"Been wanting to try this ‘alternative’ pub for a while. Large car park with plenty of space, no steps or slopes into the bar. Access for buggies, wheelchairs etc should be okay, my mother walks with the aid of a frame and has no issues. Inside the decor is certainly alternative but in a great way, loved it! Plenty to look at, keep you entertained and talk about as you wait for your food or just pass the time. Staff were friendly and welcoming, there was just one guy running the bar, taking food orders and bringing food out; I thought he needed a helper or coworker really. There is a decent bar area with seating or there is more ‘restaurant’ style seating further back beyond the bar. We chose to sit in the bar area seating which is a mixture of booth and chairs. Dogs are allowed in which is great, there is free Wi-Fi which is good as my mobile signal was very poor. The menu is standard pub food, quite a bit of choice and plenty of options for gluten free. I chose to have the fillet steak cooked medium, I had a starter of garlic bread but chose for it all to come out together. Mother had beef brisket loaded fries, the portion was massive so I had to help her finish it. The steak was perfectly cooked, I chose to have the peppercorn sauce; this was a bit watery and bland. The steak comes with chunky chips, peas, mushrooms, tomatoes and onion rings. For dessert I had the nutty apple crumble with ice cream, it was okay. Overall this is a great venue with acceptable food, friendly staff and awesome decor that will keep you talking and looking all night. Based on this experience I would visit again."
