The Ambrette Canterbury

Oh WOW, simply a delicious Afternoon Tea and such lovely staff and special service. Never disappointed with a visit to the Ambrette Canterbury and great take away food too!

We were looking forward to something a bit different and this didn’t disappoint. Every element of the afternoon tea was delicious and the service was good also. We went with friends and we weren’t rushed at all. A gem

Saturday night with friends and we recommended Ambrette for a takeaway. It was quite embarrassing when the whole order arrived cold and inedible (it’s virtually impossible to reheat burgers and fries). We went to The Ambrette for an early dinner before going to the theatre. Excellent food and service. The food is great…innovative Indian fusion. Nice atmosphere and fantastic pianist playing …really nice! We go to this restaurant fairly often, and we also have had take...away delivered frequently….never been disappointed! Would highly recommend. It is in a quiet street, but in centre of Canterbury and very near shops, Marlowe Theatre andCathedral.

Precooked meals for a larger party last night. Printed meal plans for each person was on the table. Never got the starter I ordered. Asked the waiter three times and he came back after almost all finished their starters telling me my starter was given...to another person and that it is not his problem or fault but ours. Asked him not to bother and leave as the mains would arrive shortly even though I paid for all. Got fish three ways, but only fish two ways on my plate. What a disappointing service and meal.

Having read their website I was expecting something a bit different, something a cut above the average Indian. It wasn’t. There was nothing particularly good or bad about the food (except much of it was cool rather than hot). It perhaps was more fussy in...presentation but this did not justify the above average prices. But the real problem was the service. Our waitress deserves a bonus from the owners. The poor woman was on her own dealing with the whole restaurant and take always. if I have minus then I give this worst place ever to be, pls avoid this. I went to eat in the Canterbury restaurant on January. the mango lassi had spices !!! when asked the uncharge said its normal. I...was in many Indian restaurants all over the world , never seen mango lassi with spices plates were dirty disgusting food finally when bill came I only realised it was the wrong bill when I came back home. A notice in the door advertises the fact Ambrette (Ashford, Canterbury, Margate and Rye from time to time) has won accolades as one of the UK’s great maverick restaurants. Indian tapas for lunch Is just one example of this. No idea what happened on Monday, and still zero communication apart from the restaurant apart from the money spent being silently refunded yesterday. Completely bizarre experience. We pre-ordered a home delivery Valentine's Day meal a day early to make sure they weren't sold out on...the day.
