"Wonderful old building with nooks and crannies. It seems beautifully maintained and is very welcoming. The staff were all friendly and professional apart from one woman who didn't seem to be having a good day and didn't seem to mind us knowing. We were there for Sunday lunch; my husband had mushrooms on toast, roast beef and hot cross bun bread and butter pudding and he enjoyed it all very much. I had melon and ham, roast guinea fowl and crepes. I enjoyed mine very much as well, particularly as they've found a way round not-wonderfully sweet melon by concocting a syrup of figs and something (I think) that almost completely made up for it. We shared a treacle tart with cream as well and this was deemed the best dish of all, just superb. The main reason for four stars instead of five is that there were fairly lengthy waits for every course except the first. I asked if they were short-staffed and was told that two tables of eight were causing the hold ups. This isn't right. We've experienced it many times and the seeming lack of care that ensues is surprising and really not ok. I still highly recommend this place and hope they can do better with timings in the future."

Went here for a friend’s birthday, fabulous Sunday lunch, between us we had Chicken, Beef the Vegetarian option. it was very busy as they were just back from Holiday, there was a small wait for the food, but it was well worth it! We’ll be back!

We go to this pub every year when my partner visits his parents in the UK. They used to own a shop right across the road (in the 70's). In 2022 my partner met his childhood friend whom he never saw for 40 years. Great beers, great place and great food. We always come back and always will every year everytime we visit the UK. We often dine here when we visit friends who live locally. Delightful old pub with first class food and very very good service. As usual every table was reserved so be sure to book. Very cosy and friendly ambiance, there was 6 in our party and we had a mixture of steak, fish and Guinea fowl, all well cooked and excellent presentation. The standard here has been maintained at a high level for a number of years, we look forward to our next visit.

My wife and I meet some old friends probably once every 2 months and we have chosen the Bakers Arms at Thorpe Langton for many years. Ok, its roughly half way between our respective homes and it makes sense to meet there but most importantly we meet there because we really like it. The atmosphere is always very friendly as are all the staff. The food is excellent and the prices are what you would expect. Needless to say we will continue to use this restaurant.

Across our pre-booked group of a dozen, there was a fair range of opinions about the food, ranging roughly from adequate to good (though everyone agreed it was somewhat pricey). In contrast, our views about the quality of the service were pretty unanimous. The spirit of Basil Fawlty seemed to be alive and well in the manageress. Unwelcoming, curt and rude were the adjectives most commonly used in our subsequent discussion of our experience. As if our presence (and the £300 plus of trade we represented) was a somewhat inconvenient or unwelcome intrusion on what otherwise seemed to be a rather quiet Saturday lunchtime. No-one left with the intention of ever eating at the Baker's Arms again, I'... View menu

Came here for my daughter’s 18th Birthday but that didn’t stop the owners being incredibly rude within the first few minutes of sitting down. They asked for our drinks order within 20 seconds of us sitting down. I explained we just needed to takes our coat of and settle in but they came back 45 seconds later before I had even had time to ask everyone what they wanted. At this point the (male owner) actually rolled his eyes with impatience. If it hadn’t have been my daughter’s birthday I would have walked out there and then. Needless to say the abrupt and rude, snappy service continued from the owner couple. Despite pre booking we were made to feel completely unwelcome the whole night. They t...

LeonSouthLondon London 2756 I'd last eaten here some 20 years ago and remembered the food as being excellent. Booked Sunday Lunch with trepidation, but any doubts were soon assuaged. It's a lovely cosy pub dining room, lots of nooks and crannies. We didn't order wine as one person doesn't drink alcohol and I was driving so opted for non-alcoholic beer. So just two glasses of red wine for the third person in the group. Starters, all different, were delicious. Fluffy deep fried goat's cheese in a light coating. Serrano ham and figs, and a tian of tuna, mango and avocado. We then chose the Sunday roasts. Pork, slow cooked leg of lamb, and beef. All well cooked, substantial and meltingly tender,...

"I visited my daughter and son-in-law last week and on my request they had booked a table for us on black horse on Saturday night at 1 o'clock. we arrived shortly before the pm and all four of us stood in the bar where two were served. it wasn't busy. no one told us anything until the bar was clear and then one of the ladies looked at me and I said we booked a table in my name of my daughter and she saw the bookings and said oh yes, we had table assigned and pointed into another room. there was no greeting no smiling, so we met our way to the table and sat there. there were no menus on the table, so I stood up to find some and someone only made their way from the other room in the direction of our table. we ordered drinks that were in themselves a task, as they had no free or dietary limmonade, so I had to go to the end for a gin with slimline tonic. then we ordered four different meal times. I ordered a vegetarian curry in naanbrot and when it finally came, I was so disappointed because the naanbrot was burned and the curry was cold on the outside, so I asked them to take it back. the waitress asked if I wanted to order something else and I went back. my daughter then shared some of her meals with me, who were chicken pupils. they were coated in a teig that was extremely fat. the menu does not seem to come out of any meal with fresh vegetables, everything seemed to come with chips and draughts, even the Steak-Mahl came only with chips and draughts, no mushrooms, tomatoes, wobble rings or something. I wasn't impressed. for a pub that wants good reviews, I think they have lost the property. the customer service is everything and fresh vegetables is essential. I'm sorry to be the bearer worse, but we won't come back."
