"When I entered the pub there were two servers behind the bar both appeared to be serving the one man in front of me .This had turned into a full journey down memory lane while I was waiting to get served which went through there...school years, the degrees she had and was taking much longer than you would expect considering she was aware that a customer was waiting (10 minutes with two more patrons behind me). In the end, I had to pointedly ask if she was serving. I ordered a beer and a glass of Shiraz which she had to ask what that was .This rather took me back as she was doing a law philosophy degree . When I finally got served she’d opened a bottle of wine that was only sold by the bottle not glass . The other member of staff was no better; not knowing how to charge for our drinks once they had served us. It showed total incompetence from start to finish which is a shame for a pub that used to be well reviewed. Staff training is advised..The tables hadn’t been cleared either"

Food and drink were very good in quality, quantity and value. Such a pity the person who was at the table was so upset.

Very nice lunch. Roast beef was very nice and very generous portion of chicken for the other half. Very friendly and accommodating staff. Decent ale.

Here on Speculator for a noon treat. First time visit and enjoyed it. Nice atmospheric pub, bigger than it looks from the outside, decent food and beer and will definitely be making a return visit. View menu

Have a lunch here a few times now. Lovely staff. Food is delicious. For lunch menu I Feel it’s a couple of pound over priced but I would rather pay more for quality produce than cheap frozen microwave food. Even the chips are lovely.

Having been a semi regular in The Bell for years, we were disappointed with the quality of the food and were amazed that the beer was poor. If you add to this the fact that when we asked for our drinks to be replaced we...were met with a verbally aggressive outburst from who we think was the landlady. Such a shame. View menu

I had the best Sunday Roast here last Sunday (24th October) the beef was tender and a pink, big fluffy Yorkshire pud, the roast potatoes were lovely and crunchy and fluffy, and the vegetables were spot on, just a little bit of crunch, and lots...of them, accompanied by a rich tick gravy. Good value too! thanks guys, we'll be back

"this use to an old favorite restaurant of us many years ago before it changed the hands. we saw the alex polizzi TV program, but since then did not have the opportunity to visit. we have booked online. when we arrived, I tried to explain that we had reserved online, but the waitress did not seem disturbed, nor did she check. she wanted to tell us that the pizza oven didn't work so there were no pizzas or garlic bread etc. it was good to say before we came to our table and we appreciate it. the food was excellent and the chef came out a few times to check that everyone enjoys his meals, which was a very nice note. the waitresses were very pleasant, but seemed to have confidence in what they did. there were some confusion about our weeping mission, which was our fault. we were not offered when we arrived, and it was only after they came for our food order that we could ask for drinks. there was a pretty wait for our appetizers (tomatenbruschetta and mushroom bruschetta) and then the main dishes (tomatenwurst al forno and lasagne), but if that is what it takes to prepare the excellent food we enjoyed, then it is worth it. we also think that we are too familiar with restaurants that almost food of not particularly good quality. overall a very good experience and we will return. Perhaps the waitress could do with a little, but more workout to improve her confidence."
