"Excellent food was had by all of our party. Service was a little slow but likely down to it being New Years Eve maybe slightly short on staff. We were down stairs it was quite quiet as far as atmosphere goes, upstairs was possibly a lot different. Very good though would return"

"Great value restaurant, we went in after a long walk around Painswick Beacon. Really good coffee, very fragrant with a mild bitterness which came with a Biscoff Lotus Biscuit as well; the perfect companion for dunking! We shared a slice of their chocolate brownie, which was topped with a cookie and chocolate chunks. You could tell it was homemade, as it was very light and fluffy, not too sweet and the cookie gave it a lovely crunch! Very friendly and attentive staff and great social-distancing measures in place. We'll definitely visit again, we sat outside, as you have great views over to Cranham, Sheepscombe and Jack's Green. What a lovely way to end our walk!"

"Haven’t been here for some time, lovely spacious restaurant with plenty of outside seating. Reasonable choices on lunch menu.. we both chose Lamb Koftas with Vegetable Biryani, curry sauce leaves. Looked interesting, when it arrived there were 3 small lamb koftas, a small mound of Biryani rice with veg, curry sauce and leaves with a salad dressing. It didn’t really go together, each tasting ok on its own and wasn’t very filling either. Shame but at least we tried it."
"This is the second time in 4 weeks that I have had Sunday roast here and both times were really really nice. On both occasions we were 4 kids and 4 adults. The staff were super accommodating and helpful. We had beef brisket and the kids had fish and chips. Nothing seemed to be too much for the waiter serving with us who went out of his way to make sure we had everything we needed. He even went off to find something for my fussy lad who wanted chocolate sauce rather than caramel which wasn't even on the menu! We shall be going again! Also to top it off they have a really gorgeous sunny beer garden with fabulous valley views."

"Delightful spot I always have delicious food and a very relaxing eating experience here. I’ve been meaning to write a review for a while I don’t eat here often but every time I dine here I realise what a little gem it is. They are delivering in spades what other enterprises attempt to do but often fail to realise. The food is always very tasty and nicely put together with an interesting and varied menu and the staff couldn’t be more helpful. My friend chose the lasagne but only wanted a small portion so they very kindly split it over two plates which they then also did for desert as we both were very tempted but couldn’t manage a full desert each at lunchtime. Very thoughtful, very flexible and much appreciated. Thank you so much and I’ll hope to come back here much more often!"

"Private 60th birthday celebration for 18 people. Brigid opened especially for us and we enjoyed a warm welcome Afternoon tea was excellent with warm quiche and sausage rolls followed by a variety of sandwiches. Scones with clotted cream were next and then a variety of cakes. All served on tiered stands with old fashioned china to add to the experience. Brigid was very good with communications and tried to accommodate any requests we had. Boxes were provided so we could take away anything that was left. A really fun afternoon, thank-you !"

"You know you’re in safe hands when you walk in and the bar and seating area outside are healthily busy with customers. Booking a spot for dinner here needs to be done a good week or more in advance. There’s a reason for that it’s simply excellent in terms of quality, value and the whole experience. From the moment you walk in, it’s slick staff are clearly well trained and the owner keeps a weathered but discreet eye on proceedings. Drinks order was a breeze resulting in a very quaffable bottle of Viognier for 25 quid. The food order was equally straightforward, although we weren’t aware of any specials (not a problem). Some of the best homemade focaccia I have tasted in a long time, (which goes even better with the house chilli jam) Gordal olives that melt in the mouth and a burrata and njuda pairing that leaves you wanting more. My son’s fish was chunky (like the chips) and so brilliantly white fresh when cooked, with the lightest of batters. My wife’s chicken burger came with a perfectly balanced red onion relish and slaw. The diary free and gluten free double whammy did not faze front of house or kitchen either we were dealing with solid professionalism here and people who can cook very well. My own chicken supreme on a bed of mushroom risotto was delicious. Care had been taken to present a clean on the bone supreme. The risotto was creamy with a hint of fresh chilli. All perfectly seasoned. Even though I knew my son would go for the Winstone’s chocolate ice cream, a quick scan of the menu again suggested that next time (and there will be a next time plenty of them subject to time and wallet) I may like to go for the raspberry cheesecake or chocolate orange torte. I will have a go at some point! 2 starters, 3 mains, 1 bottle of Viognier, 2 apple juices, 1 bottle of sparkling water, 1 ice cream, 1 Earl Grey tea and a double shot of proper expresso saw me very willingly part with £109.80. I chose to give a 15% tip in addition, having thoroughly enjoyed both the rare family meal out on a Good Friday and the quiet confidence of this professional team. I’ve eaten Wes Birch’s food before, both in The Ship and elsewhere. He and his team are on point here and deserve recognition for their impressive pub offering. There was no hint of rising food or energy prices holding this establishment back the place was full apart from 3 tables of 2 when we left two and a half hours later. A gentle hum of activity told me that this was business as usual. The Ship was ship shape! This team respects the customer, executes good pub grub consistently well across a range of dishes and clearly manages its costs well as the most expensive main course was a very reasonable £19. They are still making a decent profit and will benefit from repeat custom, both local and visitors alike (the table next to us was an Anglo/US mix. The other was occupied by a young Polish/Anglo family). Lots of people enjoying time being together over Easter, as it should be. The Ship offered that convivial atmosphere to complement those gatherings. I wish Wes, his family and wider team much success after their first 2 years in situ and I sincerely hope they are here to stay. This one is highly recommended food 9/10; service 10/10, value 9/10."

"We had a family birthday celebration at this restaurant yesterday. The food was fantastic! The wine was delicious and the portions were very generous. We were all so full when we left that we felt like we were in a food coma. I would definitely recommend this place."
"The Swan has always been my go-to restaurant with family and friends for good quality meals, service and venue, until last night 23 March 24. At 7.40 pm I checked in the bar for a pre-booked 8 pm restaurant table, for myself and two friends. We ordered a drink and sat at a table, displaying a reserved notice, the only seat available. 8.15pm I enquired when our table would be available, to be told that was our table. I had booked a table in the restaurant, not the bar. The three of us were then escorted to an unattractive huge 15 seat table, resembling a wallpaper paste table. We expressed our disappointment to staff members and departed for home. Not one person offered an apology or concern for our disappointment. There were a couple of unoccupied small tables requiring a wipe and cutlery in the restaurant at that time. I will be reluctant to recommend the Swan in future"
"As for the rooms, ours was delightful with a really comfortable bed. The drink selection, especially the cider and real ale, was excellent. Breakfast was a highlight, offering a wonderful variety of cooked options. One morning, I had the Smoked Salmon with scrambled eggs, and the next day I enjoyed poached haddock with poached eggs. My husband tried the full English breakfast and loved it. Although we didn't dine in for dinner since we were out in the evening, we did have some sandwiches which were very nice. The food was really lovely, made even better by the friendly staff. All in all, we had a wonderful stay!"

"I had a fantastic filet steak that was cooked to perfection. For dessert, I enjoyed a coffee-flavored egg with a soft chocolate center, accompanied by flaming sambuca. I visited from Yorkshire, but I would definitely go back whenever I'm in the area again."

"Last weekend, I took a walk through Slad Valley and made sure to stop by The Woolpack. This charming old pub has a wonderfully authentic atmosphere, with cozy, vibrant sections and exits at both ends. We settled in with some locals and enjoyed a refreshing drink of apfelsine, a quiet and flavorful cider from Dunkerton’s. The pub has a rich history, and the locals have a deep appreciation for Laurie Lee's works, often engaging in lively conversation. We loved the experience so much that we ended up booking a table for dinner, which was absolutely delicious. The house wines were among the best I've ever tasted. There is a genuine pride in this place; the food is ample and hearty, yet the pub’s original character remains intact, which is why it attracts so many visitors."
"This pub has so much potential. It is a shame that under the current stewardship the pub has had its soul stripped from it, there is now no atmosphere, no pub garden (just benches in a car park). The kitchen has been under renovation for at least the last 5 years+ and they sell frozen pizza with your expensive out of date beer. Unlike many if the stroud pubs it feels like it has had its community stripped from it and panders to and hosts far right and rascist hate speech under the guise of 'comedy '. Avoid at all costs Rooms: 1 Service: 1 Location: 5"

"This is a welcoming and quaint pub with a traditional atmosphere. It is clean and nicely decorated in a classic style. Although they do not serve food on Friday evenings, they offered complimentary platters of cheese and passata on toasted bread at the bar, which were a delicious and flavorful snack. The addition of herbs and chili added a nice touch to the dishes. It paired perfectly with a few pints of Guinness. I will definitely be visiting this pub again, hopefully during lunch time when food is available. Overall, I give the food a rating of 4 out of 5."

"We only tend to visit the Weighbridge once every so often, but that's only because we live about an hour away. We visited last Saturday and as per all our other visits, it was well worth the journey! The starters were great, the puddings...were superb but the undoubted stars of the show were of course the in pies. The pastry is very short and just falls apart in the mouth. The fillings are fantastic and (if you have the full size pie) you most certainly won't be left hungry. We were served by a few different team members who were all very friendly and attentive and we were not kept waiting. If I had to criticize something it would be that there wasn't a traditional bitter ale around I had Bath Ales Prophecy which I chose because I was driving but to me it was a bit too citrus-ey. Personally I would prefer a more traditional ale like Butcombe Bitter or Wadworth That's just my taste though and it didn't detract from our experience at all. I would definitely recommend the Weighbridge. We are already looking forward to our next visit."

"We made a last-minute reservation on a Saturday night and the restaurant was very busy. Fortunately, we were seated in a cozy room off the main bar with only 4 tables. The main room had a log burner which added to the atmosphere. They had a good variety of drinks, including some 0% beers. The main menu included a vegan risotto and beyond meat burger, both of which we tried and found to be delicious. There was also a veggie Thai curry on the specials board which looked tempting. The dishes were well-presented and the staff were friendly."

"We always look forward to our visits to Nailsworth, and always enjoy lunch at Williams. On this occasion, unfortunately, we were accompanied by my mother-in-law, who is a very difficult customer and makes dining out a joyless experience with her never-ending stream of hyper-criticism! She seems to think she is a judge on Masterchef and picks over every morsel of food on her plate, interrogating everything. She got it wrong this time, claiming her Dover sole was over-cooked, when it was clearly perfectly done. Suzanne was excellent as always, and took the plate back to the chef, who quite rightly challenged the criticism and returned the dish to my mother-in-law, who ate the whole lot. My partner and I greatly enjoyed all the food served, and thanks to Suzanne for looking after us so expertly again. Apologies for the disrepectful behaviour of one of our party! We won't bring her there again!"

"We called the restaurant and soon after, we went to dine there. The pub is located on a small access lane, and the staff was absolutely fantastic in serving our meals; nothing was too much trouble. A big thank you to Georgie, Minnie, and Molly for their excellent service—it was a pleasure to dine with you. The views from the window are spectacular. If you’re looking for a local pub to relax and have a meal, I highly recommend this place. We visited in the middle of the week when it was quieter, and the lounge area offered a beautiful view of the countryside."

"We recently had a date night at this restaurant for the first time in a while, without the kids. It's perfect for couples and small groups, with authentic music and décor that matches the menu. We tried the sharer mezes, with both hot and cold options, and were impressed by the variety of choices. The dishes were all well-made and delicious, and we were worried we wouldn't have room for our mains. I had the kleftico, which was cooked perfectly and fell right off the bone. My partner had the lamb kebab, and we also tried the lamb donor, which were both fantastic. We shared a delicious pudding with Turkish delight that was the real deal. The staff were friendly, the toilets were clean, and the overall atmosphere was great. This family-run business really impressed us, and we will definitely be returning. I would highly recommend this restaurant, and I will be posting a review on TripAdvisor. They have plenty of vegetarian options and can accommodate dietary restrictions. The service, food, and atmosphere were all top-notch. We loved the kleftiko and will be ordering it again on our next visit. The price per person was reasonable, between £20-£30."

"I come here every week and love her menu. simple vegan meals with a good variety and also quite healthy! beautiful selection at desserts and daily specialties that never disappointed. during the kovid, she delivered pickup service and I collected quite a lot of bags. when I was asked if I could return them for reuse, they welcomed this idea and it is great to see that they made these steps for sustainability (the bags and cutlery were also all recyclable everything in all, a great place with delicious food and good service. updated by previous review on 2021-04-13"
