Fairy tale pub deep in the countryside with innovative cuisine making great use of excellent local produce, interesting wines, and a warm welcome from attentive staff. For cooking of this quality pricing is very fair. It most certainly is worth the extensive detour.

Have been meaning to eat here for ages. Was not disappointed. The Black Bear fully deserves its reputation for the finest of food in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. This is how it's done. Attention to detail in the way the food is prepared, complementary tastes and all so unfussy. Brilliant

We had a delightful dining experience. The ambiance was calming, the food was exceptionally delicious, and the service was extremely friendly. We are planning to celebrate a family member's upcoming 80th birthday by booking a meal at this restaurant. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our meal and will definitely return in the future.

really nice lunch and good atmosphere. the prices are higher than other places, but they get what they pay, since eating is top quality. only a slight output was a limited menu that had only 3 netzen when we visited. I am also glad to report that after a previous review they now provide some nice sourdough bread with olive oil for the table!

I had high expectations for a delicious meal based on the recent reviews, but unfortunately, our experience was not as great as anticipated. Although the overall meal was good, the scallop 'special' starter was disappointing. Priced at £11, I was expecting a larger, perfectly cooked scallop, but instead, it was small and overcooked, making it rubbery. This mishap definitely put a damper on the evening. View menu

I recently had another fantastic meal at Black Bear. The location is stunning, with all the cozy charm of a local pub and the high-quality food of a fine dining restaurant, but without any pretentiousness. The cooking is excellent, using great seasonal ingredients. I especially enjoyed their oysters and the Scallop dish with bone marrow butter was outstanding. If I lived in the village, I would probably never want to leave. Kudos to the team for their hard work in these challenging times!

We had a fantastic meal here. Definitely as good as a recent lunch at the walnut tree, and exactly half the price. The menu was so interesting and appetising that it was hard to chose, and it all tasted delicious. A little thing which made a huge difference: We had multiple bottles of sparkling water during the meal and the charge at the end was £2 for the lot. Yay! There is no children’s menu, but they are extremely helpful and will make something specially using ingredients they have. My very very fussy 5 year old was delighted with his fish and chips.

First time visiting The Black Bear, well what can I say ? Perfect from start to finish! Excellent food, starters mains deserts. We had our 5 year old granddaughter with us and Joshua the owner and chef provided us with a dish that she enjoyed, but I must say we have eaten in a few Michelin star restaurants and they don't seem to cater to the younger generation... so hats off the the chef. Also, the waiting staff were most accommodating and nothing was too much trouble. Would we eat here again? Most definitely, would we recommend? Most definitely. Can't wait to return.
